Irish U20s Six Nations Squad
First topic message reminder :
John Andrew (Ballymena/Ulster)
Jake Caulfield (Malone/Ulster)
John Creighton (Malone /Ulster)
Steve Crosbie (Old Belvedere/Leinster)
Thomas Daly (Lansdowne/Leinster)
John Donnan (Ballynahinch/Ulster)
Peter Dooley (Lansdowne/Leinster)
Conor Joyce (Malone/Ulster)
Sean McCarthy (Shannon/Munster)
Luke McGrath (UCD/Leinster)
George McGuigan (Newcastle Falcons/Exile)
Ryan Murphy (Dolphin/Munster)
Stuart Olding (Belfast Harlequins /Ulster)
Alexander O'Meara (Hartpury/ Exiles)
David Panther (Corinthians/Connacht)
Rory Scannell (Dolphin/Munster)
Rory Scholes (Belfast Harlequins/Ulster)
Brian Scott (UCC/Munster)
Darren Sweetnam (UCC/Munster)
Christopher Taylor (Malone/Ulster)
Gavin Thornbury (UCD/Leinster)
Peadar Timmins (UCD/Leinster)
Josh Van Der Flier (UCD/Leinster)
First game is vs Wales - Fri 1st Feb 19:10 Wales U20 v Ireland U20 Parc Eirias. I think it's on RTE 2.
Bit disappointed - I was hoping Olding might leapfrog NOC during the Grown-Ups 6N. I know the Ravens had been playing with him at 10 and O'Connor at 12. He and Joyce have had senior caps - I think Rory Scholes played in a friendly back at the start of the season? Missing Farrell, who is still eligible, due to injury.
Chance for Luke McGarth to start his bid for Leinster scrumhalf-ship?

Another Irish restart gets kicked dead.
Seriously, these are the best U20s players Wales and Ireland have? Can't even manage the basics.

Have Ireland replaced the loosehead but left the tighthead on, despite the fact that that is where we are being screwed?

Sam Davies misses again from halfway, managed to kick it straight though.

That was a very good kick from Sam...I wonder if the wind is behind him now too? The crowd certainly seem to be behind the team now...

Re: Irish U20s Six Nations Squad
Excellent cut out pass in the welsh midfield. But they manage to butcher a 2 man overlap for what looked like a certain try.

Wales are missing some as well.
I cannot believe Ireland left the TH on and took of the LH.

Try Dion Jones!!!!
11-7 at 49 minutes. The conversion bounces off the crossbar.

Missed conversion
Even if we manage to win this game, we won't beat France or England without a goal kicker (Patchell is supposed to be back to play Scotland and England apparently)

Awful kick dead by the 9 off the back of a good scrum. What a waste.

To be fair, hitting the crossbar takes some skill - ask those who've tried the Pro-12 Crossbar Challenge.

Re: Irish U20s Six Nations Squad
Ireland are pretty underpowered tonight. Wales should be further ahead, so I think this just highlights more problems for us. Ireland have a few good players in there though. Do they play in the AIL?
And yes, the ref is gash! Missed or ignored about 5 crooked lineout throws from Wales.

Every single referee f**ks up the lineout, p**es me of no end. The main problem for me with the referee tonight has been his inconsistency at the breakdown. absolutely screwing Ireland there.

That is not a try. Just short of the line. Dion Jones again. Ireland penalised for a double movement though.
Penalty successful.

Welsh no8 gets over the line, but they go back for a Welsh penalty due to a double movement.

Forgot Jordan Williams was eligible, don't know when he will be back - he has been out for a while hasn't he?
Ethan Davies is in the 10 spot on the bench, never heard of him though.

Looks like Ryan Murphy scored, but it's gone to TMO. If it's allowed, he's done really well.

I think it'll be inconclusive...only cause no one can see it, not because it wasn't scored.
Yep it's inconclusive (or whatever the French for that is).

Ireland are in this now. We have two props off the field... Those first half missed points would be handy.

Re: Irish U20s Six Nations Squad
Thomas is totally outclassed at this level, Jenkins and Jones are good ball carriers but no ground men and their 7 is hiding behind every ruck and maul.
Very difficult to defend when your 7 offers no threat to the ball, and the 9 is getting an armchair ride going forward.
Wales desperately need to weather the yellow card and just restructure like its minute 1.

Re: Irish U20s Six Nations Squad
This Wales teams is a shadow of the team they fielded in the WC.
They haven't been able to select Patchell, Robinson, Amos, Dixon and Ieuan Jones. He could certainly have used a better 10,12,15 axis.
Then we have had to put up with losing a lot a class players from the U20s squad - Matthew Morgan, Habberfield, Samson Lee, Matthew Screech, Cory Hill, Hamilton etc.
The only experience we have left on the field is in the backrow and at 13.

I haven't noticed much in that dept, but that's just me. And I wouldn't be so sure mate. Jenkins and Thomas are good fetchers.

He played against Sale. He's a livewire with ball in hand. Far better than Davies, but Davies was gash last year and they're still playing him.
