So certainly not an intentionally career threatening move by Healy on Cole. More likely an attempt to quicken releasing the ball that Cole was obstructing.fa0019 wrote:the video I watched on rugby dump today had no real footage fromt he back only the side. From the side it doesn't look like its could be infringing.
In terms of whether or not Cole was illegally preventing is still debatable but you can see from the back where Healy was it could have seemed that way.
Ofxourse the whole situation would never have happened if the IRB had appointed a referee who could command the breakdown area rather than Garces ineffectual, inconsistent manner.
Both teams were pushing to get away with as much as they could taking advantage of Garces inabilities.

Next it will be nasty Englishman tries to hijack Healy's performance in the scrum by attempting to damage his studs with his ankle.

I don't think there was ever a case of being intentionally career threatening... it was potentiall career threatening mind.
Other than a few cases I doubt any player would go out to end another players career.

Yes, but he chose to do that with the aim of 'damaging' another player, such that the consequence of his an action could indeed threaten a career...so i reckon more emphasis on intentionally damaging someone (which could be career threatening)....get me?

Regardless of what Cole's leg was doing, stamping is illegal, full stop.
The ONLY mitigating factor that should also be taken into account was 'where'.
He stamped on the joint, not the foot, or leg, but the most vulnerable part.

The irony is that despite the foul being committed on an England player, the net beneficiary or beneficiaries of any ban will be England's opponents who won't have to play against an undoubtedly talented prop....or psycho stamper dependent on your viewpoint.

I think that by the time Cole's foot hit the floor, Healy's foot was on top of Cole's boot.
It did start on his ankle though.
No one is disputing that it was illegal and wrong.

Re: Cian Healy - cited
What Cole did is irrelevant wrt Healy's intent. Cole was illegally getting in the way and Healy could have responded in a number of ways. He could have run crying to the ref, he could have raked Cole, or knee-dropped him on the thigh, or confronted him when Cole got up with a smack in the hooter, or maybe a crafty Dylan-esque forearm smash. But no, he chose to use the approach that all rugby players are well aware of, and that’s the ankle stamp. Twice. And if you think the stamp was a clumsy way of moving Cole’s leg to a more convenient position…oh dear - the ball was already available.
Assessing intent is obviously difficult in these situations as only Healy knows that. The rest of us can only use our eyes to judge. Did he mean to end Cole’s career – no, surely no pro sportsman would do that. Did he mean to inflict damage – well I’m going to do what the citing panel will do and use the evidence of my eyes to judge that. With a bit of luck and common sense he’ll get a decent ban and we can all move on.

I think the intent was clear..........to inflict severe pain on Cole...........if Healy does not get 5+ weeks, it's pretty shameful............
I also get the impression from reading some of the posts here that a certain level of violence is acceptable on a rugby field still. Raking etc..............what Healy did was cowardly and i have heard no apology from him or Declan Kidney to date......................

From what MrsP says, then Healy should not only face a citing but should have conceded a penalty (reversed) for retaliation and the possible/probable concession of a further three points to Farrell's reliable boot.

Re: Cian Healy - cited
Cole was indeed slowing ball and had already conceded a penalty. Had Murray stepped over him and used his boot in a rucking motion to move Cole too get at the ball then I doubt we'd be having his conversation. Massive difference between that and running 5m to stamp down on someones ankle in an attempt to injure (given the location and mannee of the attack that is the most likely conclusion) another player.
The ref was there and should have dealt with the situation. A yc for Healy and a lecture too both captains about taking the law into their own hands. Instead England will see their competitors gain an advantage as Ireland have little depth at prop particularly those at Healy's level.

Having seen numerous clips of the incident, if Healy thought Cole was preventing release then he could have just used his hands to move Cole's leg.
It would have been quicker than taking aim at Cole's leg with his boot.
Still, what's happened is done, so over to the citing panel.

Im imagine Healy is disappointed with himself for doing on such a big stage but im sure he wont lose any sleep over it.

No i do not feel 10ft tall to be honest. Yes i am glad that England have the first 2 games of the 6ns. But i am also weary enough to think that this come all come too an end in the next game. If we do not keep our selves well grounded.

Well Ironically Ireland have 2 choices to take over from Healy. Kilcoyne has been on the bench is getting better in the scrum and is good around the field. If they choose Court then he is arguably better than Healy at scrumtime (when played at Loosehead before anyone starts) so we are looking fine for options, watch out Scotland
