Cardiff's quite nice - as an overspill from Bristol - which is a lovely place. (in parts)

Worse places in the uk i have been to(and pretty close by!!).. nothing truely compares to woolwich, and I have been to many rank places all over the uk through work!

Even deptford or catford seems decent after that place.

Its the only place I have ever seen someone shooting up on the street.

Woolwich is the posh end of Thamesmead, a place that doesn't have a single pub with a pitched roof.

Some bits of Woolwich are ok, for me Deptford is way worse.


Most depressing places I have been to (used to work for a retailer with >800 outlets so visited a lot of towns) was Campbeltown. While not as bad as the BBC documentary made out - it was dire.

Second place was Coalville - because once the coal had gone there was nothing.

Mind you once saw a vicious catfight at the Woolwich Tramshed. One girl started the argument with a chain connecting an ear piercing to a nose piercing. No guess needed as to what her opponent grabbed and yanked.

I suppose deptford is pretty awfull- however i went out with a girl that lived there and we would go this pub. and to be honest it was full of some pretty regular normal dudes.. But out on the street was funny. The crazy home boiys would congregate round bins on fire(like you see in NYC films etc)

Woolwich was a fleating trip!

I used to live in Woolwich. I remember when some shops in the derelict shopping area were done up. Turns out it was for an episode of London's Burning. The same shop fronts could be seen 5 years later. It was supposed to be the poorest borough in London.

There was a very good real ale pub around there though.

We went upmarket eventually - moved to Lewisham

Edit - just forgot what Woolwich is famous for - it has the first McD's to open in the UK....

I love Bath (city & club - and I'm a Glos fan btw) in so many ways, but as a sports venue the Wreck is pretty shabby by today's pro standards. All power to the Bath owners and management in their negotiations with the council. ....
