Technical question - left wrist
Can I pose another query about technique -
Have seen a number of swing analyses where the commentator has mentioned whether the left wrist is "cupped" or "bowed" during the backswing, often with a statement along the lines of how these positions promote fades or draws respectively. I also note that none of the instructional material I've read or heard suggests deliberately doing this when trying to shape shots. Anyone know why this would be?
Is this a really obvious point, i.e. do most people do this anyway in order to open or close the clubface (on its own or in conjunction with adjusting grip)? Or are there other complexities, such as this also interfering with swing path somehow, which mean it is unreliable as a technique?

Re: Technical question - left wrist
I've seen them show it on Sky with the "Konica Biz Hub Swing Vision super slow shot centre ....blah blah blah "
It seemed they only talked about it being important at the top of the back swing because it layed the club off or something. Must say, most of it went over my head.
Sorry.. no help.

I'm useless here too. I don't know what they mean by "cupped" or "bowed"

Oh at least I know that - you're a proper thicky
Hold your right arm out in front of you like you're holding a club straight up in the air. Bend your wrist so your fist moves to the left - bowed, bend it so your fist moves to the right - cupped.

Re: Technical question - left wrist
Ha ha - cheers Bob, I are dumb amn't I
Cupping or bowing sounds too difficult to controllably do to manufacture shot shape effectively to me. Likely to result in clanks and duffs aplenty (well more than currently!).
To effect deliberate (!?!) fades/draws I change the orientation of my stance a bit whilst (trying) to keep the rest of the swing the same. Closed stance for draws and open for fades.
For more dramatic efforts (extricating myself from mangoes/behind trees I have found myself in) i try to roll wrists through impact (hook) or limit wrist motion (slice). Needless to say these are risky and I shouldn't do it as a "normal" swing managed to screw up the hole and so I should just take my punishment and crack on but the Seve in me wants to try the improbable!

Re: Technical question - left wrist
I use this method to hit draws and hooks. For the most part it works fairly well

Aside from fades/draws, to my mind a bowed wrist is much preferable given that at impact you want your hands ahead of the clubhead. That's going to be a lot easier from, say, a bowed position at the top than a cupped one. Still, Hogan didn't do so bad cultivating a cupped wrist now did he?

Anyone just thinks about the clubhead at impact?and basically let the other bits happen.Set up feet and ball position for the shot and visualise the club,
Just a thought

Just the target for me when I hit a shot. Set up, last look at target, look at ball swing, go find it.
Sometimes the go find it can take a while...
