Welcome to Season 5 of the Aviva Premiership fantasty rugby game. Below are the rules of the game which must be adhered to. If there are any situations that arise in the course of the game which are not covered by the rules, a final decision will be made by the RFU (Ozzy3213) as to how the situation will be resolved.

Senior Squads wrote:
The maximum squad size is 40 senior players. If a team has more than 40 players in their squad then they will be fined £1 million per player over the permitted amounts per day for the first seven days. If after 7 consecutive days a team still has more than the permitted number of players then the team will be fined £2 million per player per day, and fined 1 league point per player per day for the next seven days. If after this time a team still has more than the permitted number of players in their squad, the RFU (me) will remove players at it’s discretion to bring them back under the permitted numbers. There will be no right of appeal to players being removed.

Be aware that all tier one international matches which are played during the season will count in the game, and players selected in the matchday 22's for those matches will not be eligible to play for their clubs on that weekend, therefore you must give due consideration to the make up of your squad.

Academy Rules wrote:
Each team will be allowed to have a listed senior academy squad of 20 players. Players who are in the senior academy must be under 22 years of age as of 1st September 2012 (therefore must have been born on or after 1st Septmber 1990). Players who are under the age of 20 (so born after 1st September 1992) AND are in the academy of the club that you are managing in real life, DO NOT need to be listed as senior academy players as part of your 20, but are available to you in this game and cannot be poached by other clubs without paying you a fee.

Should a player not listed in your 20 senior academy players, but part of the clubs academy in real life move clubs in real life, then you will have first option of promoting him to your listed senior academy. If you choose not to take this option he will become property of the club that he moves to in real life in this game.

Transfers wrote:

  • Domestic (other AP Teams)
Each team has a budget to use in the purchase of players. Domestic transfers between AP clubs, regardless of nationality of player, should be negotiated between the respective managers, and then confirmed on the Domestic Transfer Confirmation Page.

  • Domestic (Championship and below)
Each team may during the season purchase no more than 3 players from the Championship or the National Leagues. These players must be bid for on the Championship/National League bidding page, and each bid will be considered by me on it's own merits before being accepted or rejected. No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.

  • Foreign
To make a foreign transfer (i.e from any club outside of the AP, regardless of whether the player is English) a bid should be made on the Foreign Transfers Page, which will be considered by me against the posted guidelines for purchase prices before being accepted or rejected. No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.

Foreign transfers will unlimited during the off season and 2 during the season. The exact dates of the two transfer windows during the season is to be confirmed.

Player Releases wrote:
Managers may choose to release players from their clubs, for which they will be offered compensation

Compensation will be paid as follows

£2 million – current international (must have played international rugby in the previous 12 months)
£1.5 million – former international
£1m – top flight experience
£0.5m – other

If a released player plays in real life for a team outside of this game he will be deemed to have returned to that team. If not then he will be deemed to have signed for a Championship side. If another manager wants to pick a released player up, they will have to bid for him in the same way as for a foreign or Championship/National League player.

Retirements wrote:
There will be no compensation for retiring players. Should a player who retires decide to come out of retirement and play again, then he will automatically go back to the club who he was playing for in the game when he retired.

Fixtures wrote:
There will be 22 Aviva Premiership games per season, plus the play offs. There will also be Heineken Cup, Amlin Challenge Cup and Anglo Welsh Cup matches. These games will take place once a week. A thread will be put up for managers to name their teams on Thursdays, then on Fridays, managers will post the scores that they think will happen from these games (apart from games in which they are involved). An average of all predictions will be taken, and then 0.5 points added to each teams score for each prediction that had them as the winner, and that will then be the final score.

Teams wrote:
When naming your team, not only should you put the starting XV and replacements, but also tactics that your team will employ. Results will be affected by the tactics described.

In addition, each team must have the following:-

At least 10 England qualified players in your matchday 23, and at least 5 of those must be in your starting XV.

At least 2 props and 1 hooker on the bench.

All players must be eligible (not injured or banned).

Failure to comply with these rules will result in forfeiting the match and a 1 league point deduction.

If you fail to submit a team for a match, then the other team will be automatically awarded a 30-0 bonus point win. If both teams fail to submit a team, then it will be scored as a 0-0 draw.

Injuries and Suspensions wrote:
Injuries in this game do NOT reflect real life, they will be generated by me.

Players banned in real life will be ineligible for selection in this game for the duration of the ban.

Inclusion of injured/banned players will result in them being replaced by players on the bench, and the bench not having eight players, which may result in punishment if it concerns the front-row.

Punishment for fielding an ineligible player will be loss of one match point for a first offence, two for a second offence and so on.

Financial Rewards wrote:
There will be no rewards for the result of an individual match, instead the managers will receive cash for predicting.

£1.5m for descriptive predictions
£0.25m for scores on the doors predictions
If you fail to predict without first advising me that you are unable to do so that week, you will be fined £1m for a first offence, £2m for a second offence, £3m for a third offence etc.

Saints battered Irish from the sounds of it - think they might have finally found their replacement for Ashton in Jamie Elliot 5 tries in 2 games now I think!

Hartley motm too. Apparently Myler was very good.

Ashton's workrate is top, not many wingers do as much as him, but his not quite there mentally - when he threw the ball at the French guy last week it was stupid.

Thing is with Ashton he still gets in try scoring positions and could go on a try spree at anytime.

Not sure what has happened with his tackling of late, previous seasons I saw him as a very good defender.

Defending has never been great, but it's really bad of late.

He's in really bad form, I wish we had an alternative.

Ashton himself said his defence was poor for the try but then so was Ben youngs and a few others. Also it was magic by fofana who is probably the best 12 in the world at the moment form wise.

Saints so up and down

Give him another game against Italy, must be able to create more chances - thing that concerns me is that neither Goode nor Brown look like try scoring threats and we are far too reliant on Manu for our tries.

Would like to see Wade or May given a go on the left wing for us against Italy - wont happen though.

Also the Farrell, Barritt and Tuilagi midfield doesn't really create much for our wings, as all we seem to have is getting Manu to smash over the line.

So true Chris. I would stick with Ashton I actually see the lack of strike runner at 15 and the midfield as the reason we are not scoring through the wings. As it is we are winning and scoring so can't see him making changes.

May and wade have shown their class recently. May is fully fit and electric as is wade. Personally I see may as more international material but it may be my gloucester bias. He is a better footballer and links more and kicks much better IMO

I'd take May over Wade for England - Wade strikes me as the type of player who could score 2-3 tries against teams like Italy, Samoa, USA etc, but then could come really unstuck against the All Blacks, SA. There isn't a better finisher than him in Europe at the moment, and can't think of many who can score the tries he keeps getting.

May has looked very good in recent weeks - I'd start him against Italy. Foden has played very well for Saints last two weeks, for me its him or Brown to start - I really like Goode, positionally he is excellent, his reading of the game is excellent but he hasnt got the pace or physicality to be a threat from 15 and modern game needs that.

There's some decent players involved. Rabo teams lose more players during the 6N as the league is so concentrated with talent (Majority of IQ players at 2/3 clubs).

If your an outsider looking in the Tigers/Sale squads aren't of that high a quality either:

http://www.planetrugby.com/story/0,25883,3551_8533950,00.html

Brady, Allison, Wllis, Seymour, McKenzie, Gaskell, Thomas, Harrison are hardly household names outside of the AP. A Rabo fan could throw that pretty much straight back tbh and AP teams generally lose less players to the 6N.

Where would you play him though? Wood is our best no6 now I think and Morgan will play no8 when fully fit - Haskell very good for the bench spot as covers 6, 7 and 8.

Telegraph saying Mako, Care, Flood and Twelvetrees will all start this weekend, with Billy V on the bench.

Nice to see Ford finally getting all his kicks!

Croft is a wonderful player but you have I adjust the side for him to play. He would fit in well with Robshaw and Morgan or Morgan and wood.

I don't think he would work with wood and Robshaw though. To be fair he is a better option on bench than Haskell,

With the level of injuries in the modern game his chance will come but at moment I would not change a Backrow that has been excellent however with Morgan still out he could come in to bench for Italy

Heaslip getting some stick, needs 2 big games to even tour for Lions.

Heaslip is vanishing man for Lions
Jamie Heaslip is the vanishing captain. A month ago, the Leinster No 8 had been named as Ireland’s new skipper for the RBS Six Nations soon after being identified by Warren Gatland as a talismanic figure in the running to lead the Lions.
How the picture has changed. Heaslip sank without trace as England won on a rainy day in Dublin, and during Ireland’s bewildering defeat at Murrayfield last Sunday, there was no doubt that it was Brian O’Driscoll calling the shots for the visitors by the end.
At this rate, Heaslip will be doing well just to make it into the Lions squad.

To be fair I don't think coaches are as knee
Jerk in selection as the press.

Heaslip acknowledged by any one with a rugby brain to have been in good form for this last season.

Had a mare vs England but these things happen. He May not be a captain or may be being undermined by bod who was cheesed off to not get captaincy. Heaslips playing ability not in doubt.

If we stopped everyone after 2 iffy games you would never have a cohesive team.

agree Pooly, I haven't seen him hit top form for a while. Doesn't seem to carry as effectively anymore and seems to of lost a bit of his pace.

That saying, Faletau also hasnt been on great form.

No. 8 is wide open. Morgan has a chance as does Beattie as arguably those two have been on better form for both club and country.

Faletau has been average. Of Morgan, Beattie, Heaslip and Faletau, if selecting on form you would have to take Beattie, who has been excellent all season.

Beattie & Faletau the picks for def, Heaslip has been awful. Morgan has had a good few bursts but he tends to fade in and out of games.

See Billy V likely to get a game against Italy.

Am hoping to get through one batch of injuries without losing all my captains and star players - Pete will you take bribes?!

Imagine England team will be:

Mako Youngs Cole Launch Parling Haskell Robshaw Wood Care Flood Ashton/Strettle Twelvetrees Tuilagi Brown Goode

Hartley, Marler, Wilson, Lawes, Vunipola, Youngs, Farrell/Burns, Barritt

Not sure who replacement no10 will be for us though if Farrell is out and Burns not match fit - Andy Goode?

I'm no fan of Strettle but he seems to be playing well for Sarries recently so wouldnt mind him being picked over Ashton.

Wade, May and Yarde must be knocking on the door foor a call up soon. Probably in that order.

Just done the injuries and will post them up shortly.

Just to say again, they do not kick in until after the LV Cup Final, and the round next to the name is the round that they are fit to play again.

Oh, and there are some nasty ones!!!

Cool cheers Pete, bit busy this week so helps me out.

I really hope May gets a little chance soon, unsure og his defence but he's magic!

Pleasure as always Chris. You should be least affected to be fair, as you lose so many to the 6 Nations, which you will now get back so will have them to cover for the injuries you have.

Yeah I got away unusually lightly this time round, just scrum half & hooker that has hit me really - should have kept Hartley wrapped up in cotton wool last week!

I had that once where I got my EQ smashed. This time I've lost 4 of my first choice front 5!

It will be an interesting run in now, that's for sure.

They're all starters, or certainly matchday 23 players, as they are all from the sides put out this week.

Not too bad for me, nice one pete! anyone know when Delon is back from his ban?

Have a feeling it is in time for my next AP game which will be handy as Cook is getting slated.
