Congratulations ENGLAND
First topic message reminder :
I'd like to congratulate England and SL on winning this years 6 Nations. Irrespective of your outcome against Wales in Cardiff you will win the championship on points difference at the very least. The most consistent team thus far by a mile. I apppreciate if you don't win the Slam it will be a disappointment, nevertheless winning the championship is still an achievement and of course you still have a good chance of the Slam. This is no disrespect to Italy by the way but we have to face facts so well played

Re: Congratulations ENGLAND
Like Craig Joubert
Seriously though, I commented in the first half that even though France were the better team England always looked comfortable, it took a wondertry from Fofana to worry England.
Joubert did make a number of poor calls and they did favour England, which is why Joubert worries me, since the RWC I have watched him a number of times and it can be clear from the 3rd 4th minute who isn't going to get the rub of the green.
That said I'd say Joubert had one of his much better days saturday and England in reality only benefited from 2/3 howlers

Joubert's a class ref and sometimes teams are gonna just get the rub of the green. To win a Slam you need to be a good side, you need consistency and you need some luck - Wales had all 3 last year. It should be a cracker on the 16th of March

Agree with that. Grand Slams are pretty hard to come by, and I think it's a bit of freakish chance that they seem to have been the norm over the last 10/11 years. A bit weird really as I'd have thought that with the game becoming more professional it would be a lot harder to do.

That's very true. I wonder why he didn't send Picamoles off for deliberately tripping Farrell right in front of his eyes!

Your a realist and so am I. I am happy to claim victory.
At least this way you can get your congrats out before the big game at the millinium . It might be a push for you to congratulate us at that point yo!

Oh strokey, you are a poor WUM, don;t you knwo that people who don't learn from history tend to end up with GS egg on their face...England have been here on countless occassions and choked, now is the time to whisper encouragement about each game not talk up the slam (a Slam that of course no English fan is vaguely bothered about achieving as winning the championship is more important) One game at a time fella and the Slam takes care of itself...bigging yourselves up liek this,I tell you, you'll get a shock in Cardiff

I maintain that a good team will always outplay 15 opposition plus the ref.
e.g. Sydney, November 2003. England need to be that good team at the Millie.

To be fair to Walsh he was pretty decent in the quarter final v France in the last World Cup.
I don't remember him swearing at any players or swigging from a brown paper bag once.

Gregortree,
That's a fair statement. But I believe this will go down to the wire and it will be fine lines between the two teams.

Oakey, if you win in Cardiff I will be the first to congratulate you - Winning a Slam is not easy even givien some of the disruptions to some sides. You are capable of winning in Cardiff and it should be a real arm wrestle. But I will reiterate, if you win there you will be more than deserving of the Grand Slam

Mr Morgan, will you clap England off at the Millie whatever the result ?
That was the rugby way when I played. Like when Lansdown Rd gave England a standing ovation in 1972 just for showing up.
Or do you think Rugby has become more like Wendyball these days ?

I haven't seen any crowd clap the opposition, not in my day anyway. There were extraordinary circumstances in your 1972 example, which makes it irrelevant.
And it was a joke by the way... I will actually congratulate England at the end of this tournament. It won't be for winning the Slam, but for turning up and losing to Wales.

Re: Congratulations ENGLAND
Morgs thanks for clarifying. I can see you are a sport.
At Kingsholm we always welcome on the visitors on the run out, just not as loudly as when we cheer on the home team. Same at the end of the match, although that just gets confusing. I hope it is still like that at most rugby grounds. I took a Wendyball friend once to Kingsholm who asked where was the away fan enclosure I said 'look all around you' mate.
Thank goodness we rugby fans can still happily mingle and long may that last. Pob lywch to all on the 16th.

Re: Congratulations ENGLAND
The only team other than England to win the 6N is Wales but they must tonk Scotland, even then, I suspect England will hammer Italy. So England with the three home games makes it 95% certain (in my view) to at least win the 6N. The reason I did not say Scotland will not win the 6N is, I believe the French will beat them in Paris. Well done England, a solid 6N so far.

Same at Tigers, always clap the away team on and off but obviously not as loudly.
Couldn't agree with you more about the mingling and so glad it goes outside of the ground as well and into the pubs before and after the games as well, just makes it a great day out, especially on away days.
I live in Lyon and so experienced the unfortunate incident last week involving the Lyon fans and the Tottenham fans (if anyone caught what happened, not sure if it was big news over there) but it just makes you appreciate how far from that rugby fans are.

Oakey / Killer - I think the real irony here is that 1 or 2 fans have got offended by my genuine congratulations. I find that rather absurd - I enjoy a Wum with the best and am always happy to disagree but there's no harm in giving credit where its due. some of my favourite posters are Geordie and the Hound of Harrow - good rugby men who are probably loving seeing their teams development at the moment. I've really enjoyed Wales's performances over the past few years and I think we have such a good team in the making as well. It brings a lot of happiness to all of us - enjoy it - all our next defeats are just around the corner

Killer,
yes glad its the same at Tigers. Lyon I always thought to be a great city, but shame about the Spurs incident. We got that news here, but it sounded more nazi/ racist than soccer. Sadly soccer gets targetted by these nuts.

Apologies Ruby I did actually misread and misinterpret your post, Ill be honest ...I was prejudiced by your prior record as a serial WUM and part of the problem so didnt do more than give it a cursory scan first up.
There is a line, if someone could point Mike Brown to it and explain the concept of putting the ball on the other side of it that would be appreciated.

Wheeler - you are seeing what you want to see - I have never been a serial wummer and posters will now that - I'll give better than I take in a lively debate and I enjoy the craic and banter - I'm not sure where you've gotten this impression from unless I was involved in some of those lively debates or retorting to an anglo Wum - either way, history on here tends to define who people are and whilst we all enjoy a good wumming now and again that is more often that not interspersed with decent posts - The day before writing this thread my Lions back row was Wood - Faletau and Robshaw - not exactly one eyed would you say

I like a good banter, same as the next man, problem is is that there are a few on here who are just xenophobic and belong in that bar in Lyon, but they seem to be able to get away with it. The board shouldn't be too sanitised and a bit of wummery in good humour is essential, just some of the wendyball converts tend to ruin things.

Well I enjoy your posts.
Except this one: You put up a good front, but I know your game. You are trying a sneaky, underhanded trick to make us all overconfident or perhaps slightly compacent. And then you hope that somehow transmografies from us to the England team. Trying to gain an edge for your team like this. You should be ashamed.

Nice try Grey but I'd leave the analysis to the experts, you concentrate on them bones, it requires simpler linear thinking that suits you better
