Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread part 4
The importance of Villa vs QPR next week is just ridiculous.
Villa win, they open up a 7 point gap on QPR, who would be at least 5 points off 17th (that's with Southampton losing and Wigan not winning there games)
QPR still have a mountain to climb. Whilst QPR have got some wins in the bag, they are still 4 points off 17th, which is still a lot of points to gain over the course of time.
Reading are gone. Utd and Arsenal away next two games. They'll need to win one of them to stay in with a shout, can't see it myself

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread part 4
I think Reading have winnable games with a couple teams nearby soon. But they have Liverpool and city too. It's all about bumping into the right mid table teams, I think I had them bottom but only a few points off safety. If Norwich are comfortable by the time they play each other then they may be less motivated, same with Reading's last game of the season at a hopefully safe West Ham

Stoke are such an awful team to watch. It seems they try to stop you playing rather than actually concentrating on playing some stuff themselves...

There are some real rumblings of discontent among Stoke fans at the moment. A lot want Pulis to go, and quite frankly I can't blame them.
http://espnfc.com/blog/_/name/tacticsandanalysis/id/838?cc=5739
As stated there, they have the 3rd highest net spend in the league. For that they should really be doing better than they are (what is it 1 away win in 20 odd games now?)

Stoke are a modern day Wimbledon. I think they and Pulis are a match made in heaven. They are puke to watch but if it ain't broke why fix it?
I wouldn't want to watch that week after week but you should be careful what you wish for.

I think looking at the money spent, they have right to demand a little more from the team (whether that be entertainment wise, or position wise)

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread part 4
Realistically the best they can hope for is 8th/9th place. I didn't realise that they'd spent that much money but their wage bill appears reasonable and they are healthy as a whole, I think.
If you'd have told a Stoke fan 6 years ago that his team would sit comfortably in the PL for 5 years, reach an FA Cup final and play in Europe they'd have taken that. I think Pulis has done a sterling job when you look at it like that.
You going to the Brittania in April Olly?

No I am not. Went last year, and that was one time too many!
I think while yes Pulis has done sterling job, Stoke fans are becoming just tired of the style, and quite frankly I don't blame them. I like a good defence, and some proper English football, but Stoke, especially away from home, show such little ambition, well I'd be bored of it by now

Definitely. I don't think anybody can do much to help Reading now, they were better off keeping McDermott, allowing him to do his best with the players he knows and brought up from the Championship and then if they go down, rebuilding from there.
Now, I can only see them going down and struggling once they get to the Championship.
The manager has not been the problem, it's just the players aren't of Premier League quality and they didn't bring anybody in who was.

He gave the players that got them up a shot, which in my book is fair enough.
It hasn't worked, but he is a good manager, and one that would get them competing in the Championship next season again.
The work he has done with Reading over the past year and a half has been remarkable. I think it's harsh personally

They've gone now. The only person who could have kept them up is McDermott and now he's gone, so will they. Good riddance.

Reading are done for now. They've got the weakest squad in the PL, but McDermott was just about keeping them with a sniff of 17th place. All that has been snuffed out now.

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread part 4
Well, with Man United and Arsenal coming up next I cant see why you'd sack him now. Sack him after he loses those, and if he wins one then the momentum would be with the team so hes worth keeping.
I suppose they must look at it and think if the new guy gets that new manager boost and wins a couple games early on then it may be the form boost they need to stay up.
Still likely to go down and now the new manager not only has to pick up the pieces of that, but hes also part of the failure. I hope its Adkins as I like neither Reading nor Adkins.

I think Reading are pretty much doomed. McDermot was doing an incredible job in his time at Reading , given the squad and budget he has, he was hardly going to get them flying up the league. He got Reading promoted last year when at Christmas they were written off, but a superb run of form, got them promoted as champions. He did his best over the summer and had a very good January. Things not going well at the moment, but the board just seem to impatient.
Nigel Adkins should get the job IMO

Like others, the only reason I can see them wanting a new manager brought in with just a few games remaining is that they hope with a new manager, you'll get what sometimes happens where he picks up some good results at the start of his reign, such as Martin O'neil at Sunderland.
Still, I'm like others and believe he could only work with what he had, a weak squad with very little money at his disposal to improve the team in order to keep them up.Shame because I've always liked McDermott, just hope he can get another job quickly and can carry on doing a good job as manager.
I think they'll go for Di Canio, something completely left field in the hope his personality and character will give the players a big boost towards the end of the season.

What an inventive catchphrase!
Got to admit, its uninspiring, especially as we play Chelsea at 4 o'clock. Sunderland v Norwich on paper looks to be the most boring game of the season.
Expecting Wigan to pass rings around a tired Toon

I can see Sunderland getting sucked into the mire. After Nodge they have Man Utd, Chelsea, Newcastle and Everton. Tough run that.

Lets just say with the goalscoring form we're on, we are due a few so you could be right!
Funny old team Sunderland, Graham hasn't clicked yet. However he has 6 in 4 games against us, so you know, he's gonna score on Sunday!

Ditto. I think if they do, it's hard to see QPR getting out of it (especially if Saints get something against the Pool).
More of a must not lose game for QPR imo. Draw is ok for them

Bit nervous about our game with QPR today, more so than Reading last week.
Just something about Redknapp.
They've won the last 2 aswell.
I think it will be a draw, and think Wigan will beat Newcastle.
