Scarlets V Glasgow
First topic message reminder :
Ciao Juve, I've been away and the boards seem quiet as regards the Warriors so let's get started. Very much a must win for the Scarlet Women. Although four points may not even put them fourth. Whereas even an LBP will keep the Warriors in the top three. As for team selection, assuming everyone is fit ( where's UIG when you need him?) I'D start with
1.Grant
2. WeePee
3.Angela, although Muzza made a huge difference when he came on against the former Irish giants at Scotstoun.
4. Big Al
5. Swinson who seems to be betting better all the time
6. Bluto if we want to attack them from the off Harley if we want to take the sting out of them and then bring on Bluto
7. Barclay wears the jersey till he leaves just so we can appreciate him
8. Wilson
9. Niko/Henry same logic as 6
10. got to start with Rhurarb after Munster 51
11. DTH
12. Hornee furra Linee
13. Dunbar
14. NoMaits
15 Lion in Waiting
Murchie, Schlong and the Messiah can all feel hard done by OR could all play. If we come close to replicating the second 40 against Munster 51 then we will pocket 5 pts. If we reproduce the first 40 it could be a long, frustrating night.

Apparently George Clancy, and his full team (TMO and all) will be at PYS and Ravenhill tonight officiating both games. Well done BBC on top notch journo work again
It all makes sense now, Mr Clownshoes' decisions are not random and arbitrary but make perfect sense at the other game at which he is officiating at at the same time. Either that or repeated double booking has driven him to early onset schizoprenia. Does this make Clownshoes a 21st Century Schizoid, man?

From the Rabo Pro12 site :-
At Parc y Scarlets , 7.05pm. Live on BBC Wales and BBC Alba
Referee: George Clancy (IRFU, 53rd competition game)
Assistant Referees: Neil Hennessy, Jon Mason (both WRU)
Citing Commissioner: Jeff Mark (WRU)
TMO: Gareth Simmonds (WRU)
We are stuck with the idiot Clancy unfortunately.
And Jimbo - how very dare you !!!!!!!!!

Just been told by someone else, we are the unfortunates to have Clancy, but Ulster have Hodges, who is actually worse (well for the Scarlets any way).

He does but then he doesn't : depends on who he is at that exact moment. He's fun when he's being Niko the Nutter but not so much when he thinks he is a professional referee.

Worryingly Clancy has had 53 competition games - HTF did this incompetent ever get onto the Grade 1 list ? Are the IRFU mental ?

Slight problem there Schiz, Mrspip has invited friends for dinner this eve therefore will want to remain reasonably upright so I can watch the game on Skyplus after they have left. But it is my friend who spent the last few days praising the Blessed Margaret on Facebook. If that doesn't drive me to drink nothing will. Oh yes and he was Carling's understudy at Harlequins so you can imagine his take on the Rabo. I think I'll just go and check the wine rack just now.
P.S. I don't think Toonie is resting anyone tonight- the pack were second best in the first 40 against Munster, Low deserves to start and putting Ryder on to start is also sending a message to Swinson and Kellock.

Re: Scarlets V Glasgow
Surely you agree with Ryan Grant is being rested after the 6 Nations - can't see Reid being genuinely preferred ahead of him.
I think it's probably more a case of keeping certain players fresh. Swinson has been pretty much ever present this season, as has Rob Harley, and Pyrgos probably needs a start after Matawalu having played the recent matches.
It looks like pretty sensible rotation to me, albeit that I think there's a slight risk in not starting Ryan Grant.

Jimbo that makes for a controversial evening. Maybe best lay off the sauce in case you come over all Glaswegian ?
Still no word on Jon Welsh, which is strange. Pete Murchie fallen off the radar too.

What's the Glasgow fan consensus of Peter Murchie?
I've always thought him a solid pro but nothing really more than that. I never liked him in the centres.
That said, until this season I didn't rate Horne particularly highly, and he's now a cracking inside centre.

Re: Scarlets V Glasgow
FES there is a very fine line between resting players and squad rotation. It may well be that Grant is cream-crackered after his recent Herculean endeavours but squad rotation is about keeping players competing for their places. At the moment Glasgow have six props who all have a good claim to the jersey and by playing Reid and Kalman tonight Toonie is throwing the metaphorical gauntlet down to Welsh, Coo and Grant for next week's game.
With Mata it is slightly different, normal rules do not apply with him, as he is breathtaking and electric in broken play, but like Campo I get the feeling that structured planned play is not his thing. In boring, predictable scrumhalf terms Henry is much more reliable. He has a better pass and can manage a game more sensibly. Tonight could be a fast and furious try-fest but if we are too open in the first 30 then they could overrun us. Mata is the man when we have weathered the initial storm and gaps are appearing.
Schiz, I wont make it to dessert without the sauce to calm me down but I've got a game at Millwall tomorrow to vent my pent up Glaswegian in.

FES, I think Pete Murchie has responded to the criticism he's got in other positions and settled in one as Hoggy is away so often. He's excelled under the high ball this year and gives guys like DTH, Tommy S, Maitland, S Lamont the ability to attack and not have to worry about who's covering at the back... He's really impressed me this year.

Re: Scarlets V Glasgow
Nice to see you back, UIG. Yes, Murchie seems to have been squeezed by the emergence of Dunbar,Hornee Furra Linee and the Messiah. If he is settling for back up full back this early in his career what does that say about his ambitions? Or am I being too harsh? I tend to think he is slightly more than "a solid pro" and could yet develop into a very good player.

Re: Scarlets V Glasgow
To be honest all the best stuff I've seen from Murchie has been from 15, and it's not his fault that Hogg has become such a good player.
I think he's second choice 15, but probably 4th choice 13, so if I were him I'd stick to improving at 15. Hogg can't play every game, and one day will no doubt get injured.

Re: Scarlets V Glasgow
I think it's more of a case that the Warrior's coaching staff realised they couldn't rely on Rory L being fit and Hoggy not being with Scotland. I don't think he's settling for back up, even when Hoggy was back and fit, Pete still started because he was just in such good form. He's been rewarded for that with his call ups to the Scotland squad and I reckon the competition will be good for both Glasgow and Scotland especially with Tonks coming through so well at Edinburgh!

Re: Scarlets V Glasgow
I think that Peter Murchie is very much a solid club player who won't make mistakes but I don't think he's good enough to play international rugby,as well as that I don't think he has the ability to displace Hogg, Tonks, R Lamont and Brown who probably, when on form, are ahead of him. However he's been superb this year and if Glasgow win the league a lot of it will be down to him.

FES he is. Barely... He's back in rehab after getting another knock on the ankle... Talk of whether he's going to retire or not. But Glasgow are willing to see if he makes it through rehab and pre-season and take it from there.

Re: Scarlets V Glasgow
I can understand the Glasgow view. Imagine how useful he'd be given your current open style of rugby - he's a pretty quick and dynamic runner from the back, and takes some stopping. Certainly worth giving him a chance, at least through pre-season.

Me neither, but then I'm not sure why. I can't think of any real reason why I'd dislike them. I'm starting to think it's because the bad guys in films always wear black - has Hollywood really conditioned my brain that much???

Time to don my best bib and tucker: last words Glasgow to get 5pts as
know they need WBP to stay in hunt for play offs. In an open game our counter-attacking back three will run riot, as long as Hornee and tacle like demons. Glasgow by 15pts.

I went to my little cousin's christening at the wee free - the first hymn was without any kind of musical accompaniment, except for the first note, which was provided by a woman with a moustache. Well, first my dad started to giggle, then my sister. By the end of the third verse my brother and I were in floods of tears, and the situation really couldn't be retrieved. Amazingly, we haven't been invited back.AsLongAsBut100ofUs wrote:Oh aye, those nutters! My father was thrown out of the Freeze for attending a Catholic friend's funeral - mupps

Evening all!
Slow start to the game. Barclay looking very sharp and Scarlets 10 is looking dangerous, as well as the scarlets midfield.
Prygos looks rusty, but i think he'll improve as game goes on. Glasgow playing pretty poor at the moment.

This is a very good performance from the Scarlets for the first 20
And they get the try.
Ken Owens has been fantastic, just superb in the loose.
