Deserter?
His brother was racially abused so he gets booted out to make way for a racist who hasn't had a good game in years and we're told its for footballing reasons
Ferdinand has been top class this season and is welcome to see out his career at OT and I think any Utd fan will say the same

I think it has a lot to do with the fact that when Mourinho's Chelsea "blew everyone out of the water", that team was streaks ahead of sides that won the Champions League, that were in Champions League semi-finals and finals. The standard of team he was beating was so much better. United's only real challenge this year was a whimpering defence of the title by City who by all accounts have looked a shadow of themselves with the main spine of the side playing at half the level they did last year.

I would say Utd's team of 2005 was on par with this one.

Actually he asked the FA medical team if they could accomodate his fitness regime and they couldn't this was after they had been out to Carrington looking over the records for the likes of Rooney, Smalling, Welbeck and the other England players, while they were there the Utd staff repeatedly asked if they wanted to review Rios and they refused
For him to play for England could have been detrimental to his career

Well if you actually bothered looking into it you'd find out these things rather listening to the rumours
The FA were offered Ferdinands medical records, I think it was a month before hand, and said they didnt need them. These records had full details of his fitness program.
You actually expect him to risk his career for England?

Because he can still play if hes allowed to follow this regime but to break it could set him backwards
Why do you think hes been playing so much recently

No because he has the right regime to help his back
He was willing to walk away from the TV job he had for the England games which Im sure paid tens of thousands to play if they could get his training right but fools like you cant see things like that
So who would you rather got picked?

Allegedly anyway it was highly unlikely he would have played two games lets face it san marino was no big ask but our rio would rather fly to qatar which must have done his back the world of good

The problem is you aren't offering an opinion, you're offering the Sun's nonsense as fact. The fact is he hasn't retired from England duty, like you suggested, yet you also claim him to be a deserter.
I don't know what Marty says to be fact but I do believe he has a very laid out fitness regime that he discussed face to face with the England manager before pulling out. Seems pretty decent to me.

Like you suggested he should* (and I take your implication to mean that)
I'm not sure how being in Qatar makes a difference. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have been on a small flight with one piece of hand luggage and no leg room.
If he doesn't want to play for England then he has a ready excuse with the anton thing (and god knows rio loves to make a stand). Bloody Terry has retired, forcing the issue with this crud only months before hanging his boots up. Now there's someone deserving of criticism

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread Part 5
Wrong again, I didn't suggest it either, I asked why he doesn't retire if his fitness is so bad he needs this regime to keep fit, as was being made out.
The point about the flight to Qatar is that he surely wasn't following a fitness regime for the duration of that trip, surely?
Anyway, we're not getting anywhere so let agree to disagree.
For the record, I have no respect for Terry, I'm glad he doesn't play for England anymore.

10 games seems fair IMO. Now its time for him to do some serious growing up in this time. Take an early pre season and get his head straight. Come back raring to go next season and hopefully a change of attitude.

So, 10 matches for this incident alone???
Here is the full Football Association statement regarding its decision to ban Luis Suarez for 10 matches.
"Luis Suarez has been suspended for a total of 10 matches after an Independent Regulatory Commission today ruled on a charge of violent conduct.
"A three-person Independent Regulatory Commission today upheld The FA's claim that a suspension of three matches was clearly insufficient and the player will serve a further seven first-team matches in addition to the standard three. The suspension begins with immediate effect.
"This follows an incident with Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic in Sunday's fixture at Anfield (21 April 2013).
"The Liverpool forward had accepted a charge of violent conduct but had denied The FA's claim that the standard three-match sanction was insufficient for the offence.
"The incident was not seen by the match officials and has therefore been retrospectively reviewed.
"Suarez has until midday on Friday 26 April to appeal the additional suspension, above the standard three matches."

Suarez is as short as 6/4 to never wear a 'Pool shirt again with Paddy Power.

I wouldn't be all that shocked to see him go in the summer.
10 matches is about right for my money.

I think 10 matches is ridiculous, especially as the FA's report seems to suggest it was based on this incident, and this incident alone rather than past behaviour.
Roy Keane got less despite admitting he had tried to "hurt" Haaland.

Keane got punished twice for that offense, so I hardly think he got off lightly.
I don't see where the report suggests it was based on solely this incident either

He got 3 games originally, when he had admitted he wanted to hurt him, he received just an extra five games. So all in all he served 8 games, still less than Suarez for what was essentially just stupid not particularly violent, I can't imagine Ivanovic will be nursing any long term injuries.
The fact that the report for Barton's suspension actually said they were taking his past actions into account and this does no such thing. The full written report may give us further information.

I think it was pretty obvious that Keane wanted to hurt Haaland, even before he admitted it. Now, a 10 game ban for that stamp would have been justified.

I would hope they have taken his past behaviour into account. I do think its flawed to compare it to Keane because the system has changed, the FA have readily admitted the system has changed since the Evra incident too so theres gonna be different approaches

Suarez, Rogers and Liverpool in general are just a huge PR disaster.
He a scum bag, Rogers looks like all he eats is lemons and the marketing/PR department don't have even the most basic grasp on public image.
10 games is a lot when you consider the bans some get for inflicting more serious injury. But if he didn't want to ban it might have been an idea to not try and eat someone.
Reminiscent of the whole Evra saga. Basically saying the ban is unjust, but then not appealing anyway. They are just making themselves look silly.

Almost all clubs would do the same, it's just unfortunate that Liverpool have been caught in two huge controversies. The only thing that was really bad in the long run, was the T-shirts, but I'm still certain this came from a genuine belief that Suarez was innocent.

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread Part 5
You kind of get the impression that if Suarez had shot someone then Rodgers would still be there claiming Suarez was the victim and innocent. The desperation in Rodgers is clear to see and his reliance on Suarez to basically single handedly carry Liverpool and keep him in his job has clouded his judgment and thinking. I still can't believe he compared biting a fellow professional to that of a tennis player throwing his racket at the ground in frustration.
Glad it's 10 games and quite deserved for multiple offences and hopefully he learns from it because at the end of the day, all we want to see is his footballing ability but in a controlled and professional manner. Time to move on.

The ban is silly and too long. 5 games max. People are going OTT just because it's Suarez. Had it been Gerrard or another much loved player it would have been a slap in the wrist. Look at the way Bale is treated compared to Suarez when diving. One is laughed away and called professionalism and the other accused of being an obscene cheat.

How on earth is it nonsense?
Guard of honors should always happen IMO and it shows a great deal of respect, which has been earn't by the Champions. Man United have been a class above everyone in the league this season and should rightfully be clapped onto the pitch by all of the spectators in attendance and by fellow professionals Arsenal.

Re: 2012/13 Premier League discussion thread Part 5
I'm all for it, respect should be shown to those who achieve. If Man United can do it for others why can it not be the same either way? In the same way as I like seeing managers congratulating opposition players at the end of the game when they have played extremely well and moments like Flintoff with Brett Lee when there is respect in defeat.
Although Im not saying the fans will clap, not sure I would if it was Spurs, thankfully I wont live to see that day.
Nice to see City and West Ham fans are doing a minutes applause for Marc Vivien Foe on the 23rd min. In two months it is ten years since he passed away, its been decided this is the best chance for both sets of fans to show their respects
