Was the same logic that compelled Doughty to sack Davies and hire McClaren

I so hope they bring in a manager who will try and play football, as I disagree with Olly, they don't have the players to change style. I'd love it if they went down.

Very risky move by Stoke IMO and i actually disagree with sacking Pulis. Yes there football is disgracefully bad, but it still gets them results and they have had another acceptable finish. He continues to bring in some big names to the club e.g. Crouch, Adam etc. So he is always trying to improve the football club.

Poyet has been linked, there both welcomed to each other i say.

Has he tried to improve the football club really though?

This season he's brought in players to try and develop the style, but has reverted to type. Stoke fans have had enough and lets face it who can blame em.

He's spent a heck of a lot of money to continue in the same style. There away performances on the whole have been beyond abysmal

Kolo Toure joining Liverpool. Decent bargain for Liverpool there, on a free transfer.

I think Pulis leaving Stoke could have a very similar conclusion as Curbishley leaving Charlton. While Pulis has his cons, the main one being his football not being excellent to watch, he's stabilized Stoke as a Premier League football, he might not have brought them much higher over the past couple of seasons but it's difficult to.

I think he's definitely made an effort to improve them, the style of football might not have changed, but why would he? Largely it has worked. He's brought in a higher standard of player and Stoke are often seen as one of the toughest teams to play in the Premier League.

I remember Curbishley leaving Charlton as being seen as a good thing, it would allow Charlton to improve and move on from Curbishley who had taken them as far as he could. Then they plummeted. I fear for Stoke next year, particularly if they bring in somebody like Poyet who might bring dramatic change which isn't always a good thing.

But the flip side of that as a Stoke fan is, could you take 6 years of watching what they serve up week in week out?

I can't stand watching it twice a year, let alone 40+ times

same can be said of lincoln under keith alexander. we were on the verge of going out of business and favourites to drop out of league football. keith signed players from non league. we didnt play very attractive football at times, but there were signs of brilliance from some players, and of the squads we had between 2002 to 2007 many of them play in higher divisions now, a couple who made it to the premier league of which one, gareth mccauley is now a first choice centre back and player of the year at a team who have finished in the top 10. but back to the point, we werent great to watch at times, but we had stabled and not only avoided relegation but then made 5 consecutive play-offs. look where we are now. struggling in non league. ever since keith left us we went down hill, finishing positions got lower and lower until we eventually dropped out of the football league in 2011. its crazy to think weve had cup runs and numerous chances at promotion in the last ten years, but just this season we won on the final day to avoid relegation, again!

lincoln city, another example

Don't see Pulis getting a job at a club better than Stoke (which Everton are) - he's done a decent job in keeping Stoke as a solidly mid table EPL side but hasn't won many friends in the process, and doesn't seem to have the where with all to move them on to the next level.

More likely to drop to a Championship team with aspirations or could be an option to take over mid-season for an EPL struggler. Leeds, if they hadn't recently appointed McDermott, would have been a possibility.

Nothing here about Cavani to City or is that just speculation?

I think the time is right for Pulis to move on. I think I said it a month or so ago, both parties have probably had enough of each other and it's better the part ways on good terms (one hopes) rather than an ugly sacking. I think Pulis is getting out at the right time because from the stories involving Jones and Whelan, he might be losing the dressing room.

The problem with Stoke is not Pulis going, it's who they replace him with.

If they appoint the right man, he'll have the money to go places. Stoke have spent a heck of a lot over the past seasons, so he'll get the backing.

It's just about getting the right guy in. Wrong guy, will mean a Charlton probably

Shocking isn't it - only took over at the end of 2010, so 2.5 seasons. There was a stat I saw the other day that said by this week 60 of the 92 club managers in the English league will have been in their job less than one year (now of course 61).

Think Stoke will end up like Charlton did when they sacked Curbishley - sink like a stone. Surely not Benitez though, would be a massive backward step for him.

No in all seriousness I have a feeling you will get Ferguson and I think he will be a good manager for you.

And by the way I think he the 3 favs to go to Brighton are all better managers than poyet!

(watch out for redknapp, although i rate him - he could leave you in a bad state!!)

The one you should be really wanting is di matteo!!

Now that would be special for you

Tbh, 15m is more than I'd pay for him, so Liverpool have done well there. Never going to fit under Rodgers, simply not good enough technically.

I can't believe Pardew's the second longest serving!! (Although we have lost 3 of the four longest serving managers).

On his day Carroll can be unplayable, rather like Fellaini, but I don't think he and Rodgers' Liverpool are a good match-up. I think he'll further his career at West Ham on the international front because if he stays fit and score goals, he'll be called up.

Id honestly pay more for Carroll. Absolutely top quality and has been the best player at the club when fit. Seem him bully defenders of absolute quality and his technique is wonderful. Rodgers is wrong if he thinks Carroll cant play on the deck, he can and does.

The fee is nothing to me though, I was confident we'd spend the money, its if we can get him to come here.

On a day where we've signed a very decent left back in Rat I must say I am absolutely gutted to see Carlton Cole leave. The man was a legend and is a cracking bloke, an example of footballers who are proper people.

Stoke? He brings in decent players but they always struggle to get going and have to rely on the physical side. Lets see if a new manager sticks to ball playing. Id wager he'll panic late on and go physical after he starts slow

Anyway it's a steep price to pay for a guy who struggles to stay fit and in form for me.

£15m for a 24 year old England international striker? Thats pretty decent by todays market.

I think £15 million is probably about fair for Carroll.

I think he's class. Would like to see him lead the line for England
