Any player they try and buy the price tag will inflate because the teams know they have money to spend.. The owners will tell them to stick it because they dont want to get conned- that 80m will end up partly being spent on relative rubbish and the rest will burn a hole in the clubs pockets and the working capital might as well not be there..

Well I supopose it will ease the burden of the new ground

Also the wages on those 2-3 players will be quite a bit higher than Bales.

Which is why Spurs will ship out the likes of Parker, Huddlestone, Defoe and maybe even Dempsey if they are given the chance.

So then spurs have no team left!!

Haha they would then be fighting with palace for signings!!

Didnt they sign there recent two based on bale staying anyway?

If i was in Totenham shoes and there was no way of keeping Bale. I would be trying to sign Leighton baines ASAP.

offer 30 m plus if they have to.. There left side is shocking as it stands and without bale they wont even have possesion on that side which will cause untold more pressure on the LB.

Well if they ship out Parker, Defoe and Dempsey they are all covered by Soldado's imminent arrival, Chadli's signing and Paulinho. Include Holtby who they originally intended to buy this summer but then rushed through in winter. Add in the young lad they are bringing in to take over Caulker's role then they've done what most clubs try to do, bring in first teamers whilst moving on reserves, meaning the current starters have competition. And of course they were examples of types they would sell, not that all will go.

Obviously, Bale going means they lose star quality, but they'll buy someone else, albeit not as good but then they're improved a lot of the squad so may be able to handle it

Then they're stuck with covering more wages (probably worse in fact since Soldado and Paulinho both would be on a fair bit).

Also a lack of CL football means they'll have to severely overpay to attract top talent to the club.

So while junking Bale for a large warchest sounds great in theory, in reality its actually not quite the deal it seems on paper. Indeed Spurs could ship out those reserves, sign the same players and still have Bale.

Yeah, but you have to be pragmatic. That's a lot of money that can be spread well across a window or two. They can probably afford to pay the wages of those few whether they ship Bale or not, as long as they move on the other players. Thus, its the same situation. They're a club who can afford to be spending more on transfers than they make back, with Bale going they'll probably be on -40m net.

"Indeed Spurs could ship out those reserves, sign the same players and still have Bale."

The point is they could only sign good players with bale still at the club!

They will have to over pay if bale goes and bale staying is the only draw totenham have to CL wannabies

And if you keep Bale you stand a much better chance of reaching the CL. Thus getting back a chunk of that lost revenue from not caving.

Totenham need to do something different- Understand its a football club- its not about profit on players. Its about success and breaking even in the long run!

Just explain to bale he needs to respect his contract and help totenham win the league!

Or they could hold onto a player who doesn't want to be there who will lose about 10m value as another year of contract goes. It's £85m at the least on recent reports. And he wants to go. They could spend another £40m on top of Soldado and be a better all round team and qualify. Or they could keep him and not. If's and but's.

I don't think there's a lose in this situation basically.

Plus money and ambition they still have are the draw to new signings. Footballers will understand that fee and the fact its Real Madrid. Vertonghen, Dembele, Paulinho, Soldado. You can buy Champions League standard players just outside with smart recruitment. They're not getting better players than that with Bale anyway.

Christ, my point was about selling reserves anyway, not buying better than Bale, you've twisted my argument!

As i said dolphin its not about that!

you see you need to understand firstly what that 85 million is actually worth to totenham FC.

It isnt worth half of it, because they will have to pay twice other good players values and well tbh they wont even be able to buy them. Yeah fine if its a business- Party for the directors . But this is a Football club. Club is the operative word . Its for the fans not about making real profits

They're also not getting anybody close to Bale. And they may have money. The PSGs, Man Citys, Chelseas of this world have money and CL football.

So its a massive downgrade in exchange for 2 (possibly) decent upgrades elsewhere. I'd put Spurs worse off for making CL football, so less chance of that extra revenue.

Also next year lets say Madrid want Vertonghen. Are Spurs just going to be a talent siphon to Madrid every year, never quite good enough for CL football?

Indeed.

United got 80m for Ronaldo. They're worse off now than when they had him. In theory, 85m sounds fantastic, in reality, its actually not.

Yeah, £85m can't just go straight back into the squad, many other financial avenues take over. Financing the club facilities and other debts.

That's the issue I have with Wenger. Theyve got the cash but are stagnant. They should be spending on three, maybe four players and buying talented players that brings them closer to the top three. The fact we are still comparing them with Spurs, with or without bale, emphasises the lack of progress this summer. What does Wenger actually want to achieve, top 4? That's the impression I am getting, there seems no hunger to improve.

remember they are building the stadia anyway.

its not an either or. if they got cl football 3 out of the next 6 seasons that will pay for bale times 2 anyway! as it stands they may not get it once in 6 years

Maybe the 2007 team was better than the 2013 one but I don't think Utd have suffered badly in terms of competing with other teams and winning trophies.

I mean lets compare

VDS
O'Shea-Rio(Prime)-Vidic(Prime)-Evra(Prime)
Carrick-Fletcher
Ronaldo-Tevez-Rooney
Berbatov

vs

DDG
Rafael-Rio-Vidic-Evra
Carrick-Scholes
Valencia-Kagawa-Zaha
RVP

Not really a contest for me. The 07 unit would obliterate.

Ronaldo, Tevez, Rooney and Berbatov? "What have you been smoking?" Berbatov was 2008 or something regardless. Anyway, the respective teams aren't important but what the club has achieved during and after Ronaldo is.

berba moved to us in 08, but yeah that side was much better than this one. that team had to conquer a very very good chelsea side who had dominated the league for three years. mourinho cut and ran (or got sacked wasnt much difference at the time if mourinho wanted to stay he could have) and even if he didnt i still think we would have gone on and won the leagues we did. always made me laugh when people compared jose and fergies head to head record as the majority of it mourinho had a much better team, soon as we peaked he ran
