What's Higs relationship with Maureen nowadays? Wasnt ever able to solidify the striker role so would he wish to play again for a manager that never showed the faith in him?

That's a good point. I still think Gomez would be the best option. Having played in Germany, that's probably the closest league to England's, if Bayern sign Lewandowski he will almost definitely be sold so Chelsea might be able to get him fairly cheap for a world class forward. Gomez will want to move to try and get his spot in the Germany XI for the World Cup I'd imagine.
I don't think they need a striker who comes deep and takes part in the build up, they just need a striker who'll put in the back of the net. Gomez is that striker.

To be fair, we're all overlooking Lukaku. He's still a bit raw, but has the physical presence a la Drogba which Jose likes. It wouldn't surprise me if he ended the season as Chelsea's main centre forward should Mourinho not go for another striker.

If I was Maureen (which Im not, I'm just special rather than the special one), Id look to bring in Benteke to partner Lukaku, both play together for the Belgian national team and both will will have Hazard feeding them. Both strikers are also used to the Premier League now so know what to expect.

I know what you are saying - personally i didn't overlook Lukaku and i think he could like you say, be the main centre forward by the end of the season. I think he is capable of scoring many goals.

I also think Benteke and Lukaku are far too similar to play together effectively.
I'll admit I forgot about Lukaku, if he doesn't go out on loan then Chelsea do need a world class striker, Lukaku would need to get going pretty fast though. Chelsea won't want to be left with three under performing forwards.

In other news, Goal.com (not the most reliable source I know), are reporting that Arsenal have tabled a £22 million bid for Fellaini.

I can't see anything happening where he comes to us full time, but I could see a loan. Although the Daily Mail is hardly a beacon of truth.
Would love it to happen tho

I do like Shelvey but think he's obviously regressed since he was dropped. I'd rather he went out on loan for a season to a team like Norwich, think it could do him a world of good.

He's got the talent, he just needs gametime I think. Bit like Henderson really who got gametime 2nd half of the season and is starting to look decent again.
Plus lets face it he'll be an improvement on Bradley Johnson

He would definately benefit from a season long loan to another Premiership team aslong as he is playing and not just warming the bench

Yeah but I would get better playing every week for a pl team, doesn't mean it would be a good idea for Norwich to sign me....
I can't see what he's good at, other than looking like a thug (harsh as I don't think he's a dirty player but he has the look the poor soul).

Well it's fairly obvious we need midfielders, and more creativity in there. Bradley Johnson cannot pass the ball to save his life as shown by this stat;
WhoScored.com @WhoScored
Bradley Johnson: Misplaced the most passes in the Premier League this season, with 468 (including crosses)
And it was generally considered he had a good season this year!
I wouldn't mind it if we got someone like Shelvey on loan (or another example would be Powell from Utd).

I would hope this isn't true whilst i like Fellaini i don't think he'd do well at Arsenal.
On a side note The mirror did a Q & A with Gazidis and asked if we could afford 25m and 200k a week and he said yes and more if we needed to - He's an irritating Bar Steward

Shelveys second touch is a tackle, at least Johnson gets a chance to pass
I also don't believe that stat, he can't give the ball away 12 times a game on average - it should also not include crosses.

He had a pass completion rate of something like 70% mate. The worst of any CM in the league! Trust me, he definately can!

Granted that's not great but it suggests he gets the opportunity to pass the ball 40 odd times a game for Norwich? Does that sound right?

Surely most CM's in the Prem will pass the ball more than 40 odd times a game? Maybe bar Stoke's
Anyhoo Johnson can put a shift in, and on his day he'll pass the ball well. Just that day don't come very often

Howson is just vastly superior to him in every way. On FIFA I replaced Johnson at Leeds but did not replace Howson (seriously, I had a PL winning team spearheaded by Howson!)
I wouldn't believe that Fellaini bit until it was confirmed by a reasonably reasonable source. Didn't someone once say goal.com can print anything?

Arsenal are talking about spending big, but can anybody see it?
Rumours are that they'll go for Rooney, but I think Rooney would turn them down.

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Rooney would turn them down, why would he join an Arsenal team that has won nothing and they stupidly act like they've won everything just by grabbing a top 4 position on the last day.
Everyone's going on about Wenger spending big but it's not in his DNA. I hope they do go big because the EPL needs more competition for the title instead of just the Manchester clubs. Fellaini is just a lump and would bring physical presence to the club but he would not fit in well with Arsene's philosophy of quick, neat passing and flair. Also way too expensive for what he offers and Wenger would know that. I thought Grenier was already signed, any confirmation? I still think a Gomez or Benteke would do nicely for Arsenal up front but I keep hearing Michu being mentioned and that would be a nice cheap, usual route for Wenger. It will be interesting to see what unfolds.

I'm not sure. Possible Rooney feels Arsene will get more out of him and offer a chance to stay in England.
I'm not turning down 4th place.

I think the key thing for him is being 1st choice forward not being shifted around like he is at United lets face it he'd get his wages since according to Gazidis we can pay that and proffered position

So who does the transfers at City then? At least £47 million spent on players in the last few days with no manager at the helm. £30 million of that spent on Fernandinho which is a bit of a joke.

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Whoever thinks Pellegrini has just signed in the last few days or so is delusional. He's been in charge for months, those meetings with the hierachy were going on behind Mancini's back. Pellegrini has bought both these players, don't be fooled by waiting for Sky Sports News to confirm his signature. On the other hand, I get the impression United are really doing all the work and Moyes is just kind of nodding but not really having much control. Zaha was out of his hands and this Varela kid was already training under Fergie and impressed, therefore both non-Moyes signings. If United go on to purchasing Strootman, after years of chasing him, then thats another non-Moyes signing in my opinion. I think they will give Moyes a big 'Welcome to Manchester', kind of marquee signing in the summer, so he kind of gets his print on the team.

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Convince that if Shelvey goes out on loan then he'll come to us. We'll want cover for Nolan and a little deeper that's cheap. Boyhood West Ham fan who was convinced he was on the move there eventually till we never acted and Liverpool did. Family in the area etc etc. Not his biggest fan but prefer him to Hendo.
I'd expect Arsenal to spend a reasonable amount but I'm not sure they'll lay out massive on one player. Right back, centre midfielder, maybe a keeper and centre back.

It will annoy Harry Redknapp , but if the reports are true about his £80,000 a week wages then not sure he's worth it
