It's the norm isn't it.
Wish we'd just get our business done.
Hard for a new manager though to take over the champions and make signings when he hasn't taken charge of any games or many (if any) training sessions.

Don't call it silly season for no reason.

Decent names on there. Yossi and Simpson I'd probably take, Malouda is surely still decent too. Always liked Mladen Petric and Diarra too

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread
I think the key to a lot of those players is how high the wage demands are. I'd happily accept Benayoun at the club, even when he was hardly playing at Chelsea he still seemed pretty good when coming on and would be good for squad depth, but I imagine he'll be on pretty high wages.
Malouda will be demanding a lot I'd have though, expect him to go somewhere for a big pay-day, if PSG or Monaco don't take him, Russia, America or the Arab nations call him.
I'm surprised that Fulham let Petric go who looked alright for them, Diarra has just had a very serious injury so I doubt he'll get back to even half his best. Retirement beckons.
I'd have thought any Premier League side looking for an instant fix in the goalkeeping area should have a look at Schwarzer who even at 40 had a very good year last year.
The likes of Baird, Hitzlsperger, Simpson, DJ Campbell, Nicky Shorey, Pennant, Bentley, Gallas, Gera, Thomas, Di Santo, Stam would all be decent options for the lower end of the Premier League or mid to top Championship sides. But it's all about wages. Players like Gallas will put many off with big wage demands, while the likes of Shorey will probably be just after some football.

That's a decent free agent XI, it could possibly stay up in the PL.

Chelsea and Man City are going to spend a lot of money it seems, easily over 100m. They aren't even big teams in terms of passion or history compared to others but I'm confident money will get them where they need to go. Still disappoints me though

Didn't even notice Schwarzer. Arguably one of the top ten keepers in the league. Could do a job at a lot of clubs for a year. Maybe even United's backup keeper if Lindegaard is sold.

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread
anyone been watching the under 21's tournament? Some really good players on show.
Italy had two guys I loved the loo of, Marco Verratti and Lorenzo Insigne. Both only 5'4" and 5'5" but looked top talents. But Verratti is with PSG so doubt he'll leave. With Insigne at Napoli though, maybe one of the big boys should take a look at doing a double deal with him and Cavani!
Germany had a few guys despite not plaing great. Nlapa at 6'5" is built like a brickhouse and could be good striker.
Also loved the two midfielders Leroy Fer and Adam Maher for the Dutch. Maher in particular looks good enough to cut it at a title contending team.

Another player who has been released as Santa Cruz, what a flop he has been at City, cost nearly £1 million a game as well.

He's not the first and won't be the last flop they buy.

I think he's been their worst so far though. Or maybe Jo.

Robinho was pretty bad too in the long run but he was ok for the first season. Adebayor, K. Toure and that midfield player who's name escapes me. Jerome Boateng too.

Jo was there worst flop by far IMO. Given that there was just huge huge potential and didn't they pay like 30 million for him?
But the thing is when i saw City play Brighton in the league cup in 2008, Jo just looked on Brighton's league one level.

Jo cost about £18 million I believe, same as Santa Cruz.
Robinho was actually quite good in the first season, and they did manage to recuperate some fee on him as well which means he can't be up there with Santa Cruz.
Adebayor maybe, but he did alright for a bit and they still got some money back for him, although I think it was a paltry amount of like £5 million.
Kolo Toure was alright for them, not a huge flop like Santa Cruz or Jo, but again released on a free is not great, and was quickly pushed out of the side by new signings.
Boateng for me wasn't really a flop, he was an okay squad player at City and they recuperated pretty much his entire fee from Bayern as well.

That's the free transfer list. Plenty of bargains to be snapped up there - Arshavin, Gallas, Ben Haim, Turnbull, Ferreira.

Villa signed some 23 year old called Tonev today btw
If I'm a Prem club, I'd steer clear of most of those free agents tbh. Would be some good signings for Championship teams tho

Gallas and Arshavin 100% Premiership standard players. Gallas would be a top signing for Southampton IMO. As would Arshavin tbf.

Gallas was awful this season. Absolutely abysmal.
Arshavin was good for about half a season when he turned up and has been pants since

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread
I'd take Yossi, be intrigued by Malouda, Schwarzer is good, we're still in contract talks with O'Neil. Simpson is a decent defender too, possibly not the best attitude. A friend of mine knows him from this year in Manchester where he spent a lot of time getting peed when he was injured. The plan was a move to QPR or Wigan if either stayed up, bit buggered on both of those.

If Higuain goes along with Callejon, I wonder who Madrid will sign as a replacement. I think I just pick a bad game but every time I see Benzema he strikes me as a fat waster. I saw all of his games for France at the Euros and he looked fed up and lazy in all of them, plus every time I see him for Madrid he ends up getting subbed for Higuain in the 70th minute and I have seen him score they've been tap-ins.

I think we've been watching the same matches, as I've never thought Benzema's as great as some would have us believe.

Really like the look of Arsenal if they land Higuain
Pretty handy before you add a CB and maybe a winger or two
Cesar
Jenkinson-Per-Koscielny-Monreal
Wilshere-Arteta-Cazorla
Walcott---Podolski

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Yeah, I'm not making it up. Just a source of mine is telling me that a fee agreed of around £49m and that Cavani is eager to work with Mourinho at an exciting new project/challenge. The fee suggests that Torres is not included in any deal, therefore there is a high possibility of a return to Atletico to replace Falcao.
@GSC - Yeah Arsenal could look good on paper but I've done line-ups before with Arsenal ahead of seasons and they've been appaling. Higuain is a typical fox in the box, great finisher but needs great service to excel and pace is not that great. New centre back is a must and I'm sure Gibbs will start before Monreal, if injury free. Has Grenier been confirmed or not from Lyon?

Yeah, Chelsea wanted to include Torres but Napoli rejected, hence why the fee is still in the £50m region, otherwise it would have been reduced with Torres' inclusion.

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Mertesacker and Koscielny were pretty good together. Plenty of creativity and pace on the wings in that side, possibly missing some size and strength in midfield though.
Biggest problem is attitude though

Right, this is the latest I've got from my source, he's a journalist known him for years, usually right on the money. Fee is believed to £53m which is €63m euros (release clause) and that it has been agreed. They offered previous deals including Torres earlier in the week, which were subsequently rejected. Therefore, Torres future at the club is very much uncertain and a return to Atletico is now looking more likely as a way out of the club.
He also tells me Malouda is already in talks with three clubs including Monaco, Lyon and an unnamed Middle-Eastern club. That's all I know. Whatever happens with Cavani, it's looking more than likely he's joining Mourinho's second term. Just a waiting game now for confirmation.

Arsenal need to improve the depth of quality at the club, their first team is very good but a couple of injuries and they're left with a lot of average players to cover them like Ramsey, Diaby, Rosicky, Gervinho etc.
