Exactly how I predicted his agent would make things work out. One year at Southampton in a surprise move and then move him on again and picking himself up another big agent cheque. ridiculous.
Possibly but do you not think his client would much rather play in a big team in Europe than trying to avoid relegation.

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Yeah, I'm not saying he wouldn't but do you not see their own plan. When he was at bologna they wanted to move him on but because he wasn't high profile enough, really Southampton was the best offer. They planned to use Southampton for a year and as a stepping stone to a bigger EPL team, if he impressed. Therefore, his agent got the big deal to Southampton and would then get another big pay cheque a year later for moving him on again. That's the agents money making strategy. Ramirez probably didn't want to go to Southampton, why would he? His agent would of showed him the financial advantage for both and its only a year remember before hr got his big move.
I don't really think Ramirez actually played that well for Southampton, only glimpses but if atletico or whoever big is interested in him then the agent is laughing all the way to the bank

Yea I'm pretty sure that's what has happened but it's nothing new at all. For example here in Scotland you regularly get guys coming from say Austria,Scandinavia etc and they say they are using it as a stepping stone to the premier league with it's far bigger riches. There was a guy Tade ( i don't pay much attention to the SPL) who plays for St Johnstone just moved to Cluj and said one of the main reasons was that it's close to Russia and the Ukraine giving him an opportunity to go to a bigger club and earn a lot more money again. Just the way it works, especially with some pretty small clubs with so much money.

I think Baines gets quite a lot of hype for a fullback who is quite regularly beaten one on one.

Evra's got to go sooner or later Bull. Last season was his swansong, I hope. Let him leave on great terms before the fans turn on him after he chucks in a few bad performances.

Yeah, I'm really not sure paying 20m+ for a 28 year old LB who's had a career of being good rather than great is a particularly good move for United.

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread
BBC reporting it too, claim it was £12m and that they are likely to go back with more. If he carries on creating that many chances (most in Europe) then hes worth it. Another solid midfielder in and United will be even more fluid down the flanks with their full backs, and they will be protected better defensively too.

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Ashley Cole is still better than Baines. I saw Baines get taken apart several times last season, once against Oldham! Not to mention a pummeling he got against Spurs. He's greatgoing forward, but he can cost a team plenty of goals defensively.
Cole never gets schooled, and it's only 12 months since the CL Final, where he put in the best performance I've ever seen from any defender, let alone a LB.

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Cole has shown himself far more secure than Baines defensively, but then Baines would get the same kind of ability around him if he were to join United so could shine. Defending is based on units. Even then, he probably wont touch the defending of Cole. Probably learn a lot from Rio and Vidic though. Cole's close touch football is very good going forward too, if not as dynamic nor impressive as Baines' attacking work. Id dread the thought of Ronaldo running at Baines, Cole still has all the nous to deal with him, if not as well as before better than Baines.

Attacking-wise, which catches the eye a lot more, I'd agree with you. But defensively? Not a chance.

The best defensive performance I've still ever seen is Alex for PSV against L'Arse in the CL. And he scored an own goal

I saw Cole get absolutely mauled by Juventus (in particular Lichtsteiner). He's lost a bit of pace which means if he gets forward, he can't get back quickly enough and seeing as he likes to attack, he'll get caught out more often. The modern-day FB is all about the combination and perfect balance of attack and defence.

Baines needs to remember the defense part of that balance then.

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread
I'm pretty sure this will end in Baines going to United. His age, his desire to play in the champions league and the chance of playing for Manchester United will be too much. Can see the transfer request coming in sooner rather than later. £12 is too cheap, more in the region of £18m should be enough for Everton to accept. I would be worried if I was an Everton fan, I mean lose Baines & Fellaini and replace them with the likes of Kone & Alcaraz is just asking for trouble. I think Martinez is already out of his depth, maybe I'm wrong but those transfer targets are just embarrasing for the likes of Everton.
For the arguments sake, I think Baines offers so much more than A.Cole offensively and it's that dimension to his game, as an attacking full back, is why he is so highly thought of. Defensively, I would still say A.Cole is superior. Baines gets beaten one-on-one regularly and only the past season or so have I seen A.Cole get beaten aswell due to age and injury.

Newcastle United have agreed a deal to sign St Etienne striker St Pierre Emerick Aubameyang subject to a medical. #nufc
Aubameyang said: "I will choose England before any other destination.
"My dream has always been to play in one of the top two leagues in the world.
"Newcastle is a good club and St James's Park is a monumental stadium where there is passionate fans."
Not sure how official this is, just seen it on a site. Need confirmation?????

Cole looked less good than normal last season because he had Eden "I can't even spell defend never mind do it' Hazard playing ahead of him. Neville Southall would provide better cover.
