The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Ealing Broadway
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way back to London where the victorious British & Irish Lions squad will start their 25 day open bus journey across England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland - being greeted by millions of happy, proud, delirious, tipsy and slightly sunburned rugby fans.
So grab a beer, cider, whiskey or wine.... or a warm beverage and sit back and enjoy their well-earned procession through the streets where it all began.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of the legendary
Warren Gatland, Sam Warburton, Alex Corbisiero, Jonathan Sexton, George North, Jamie Roberts and Richie Gray.

I hadn't realised there was more than one Newport Cari.
I've never been but from what you guys say, one Newport is more than enough!
We have loads of Dromores here.

Hiya Cari & Rev.
Bordeaux is a nice city Rev. So much depends on whether you get a Thursday night game in the Amlin in terms of taking time off.
We don't want Grenoble away in January - it's skiing season and the flights will be expensive.

It's a big ask probably for the finances away. I think my trips will consist of Bath away to see our Peej and Ospreys for Leinster (I think) and Scarlets for Racing to see Danny and Doc back in Wales.

Nice. Love our PJ. Not a crooked bone in his Brummie body. Scept when he tackled a frozen snowman in Devon.
Id love to go to a game we are not involved in and are in town / close by. It would be relaxing and convenient.
Must check sumting Rev. Be back presently.

Ha! I showed Mr Puma the new Leinster strip and he said exactly the same as Notch: 'Looks like a football strip'. Even the shorts are baggy. Not what I watch rugby to see!! Hate the washed out blue, as well.

Disappointed that Dasaolu v Bolt didn't happen tonight. Pretty impressive by Bolt though with a poor start.
Looking forward to the Chiefs v Crusaders game in the morning and Wigan v London in the League Challenge Cup in the evening.

Butterflies ain't so bad.
Here, a mining company in Qld was forced (in their conditions of consent) to relocate a nest of deadly red back spiders. First, they had to find/build a new home for them. Then collect each one individually and transport them 80km. I didn't realise they were protected?
I know I have a few out the back. Haven't seen any yet (it's winter) but I can feel their presence.....
Lucky, your post about pineapples. I'm having nightmares about this one...
- Spoiler:
I've got this nasty, spiky looking palm tree (phoenix canariensis - date palm) which reminds me of a giant pineapple. The spikes go right through gloves. They have needle sharp tips which tend to break off once they've stabbed you. When you are cutting the fronds off them it's so easy to get a spike through your eye/temple - so need to use protective gear.
Apparently there is a bit of poison in there too so not only do you get the pain of the pr1ck... a few hours later a blister forms due to an infection. I hate the damn things. Some people like them but give me a cabbage palm tree any day (smooth trunks... no spikes but they make a mess with their falling fruit every now and then). There's one in a tub here which I'll transplant later.
A close up of the spiky base - vicious! (not mine but very similar)
You know in the Vietnam war when the VC used to set pit traps for unfortunate American soldiers to fall into?
- Spoiler:
I'm not into manicuring these beasts. I'm gonna hand saw the lower bits off and then decapitate it at the base by chain saw.
I'll watch the SXV semis - think the Crusaders and Bulls will win.
The Brumbies were lucky to get away with the last win in Canberra. The Bulls will be out for revenge on home turf and in their rarefied atmosphere. Whenever I hear a coach say something like "we're confident we can defy the odds and come away with a win" or "we believe we have the right game plan to counter them.." (Jake White) I hear warning bells instead these days.
Somehow, I don't feel so convinced.

That's one nasty-looking plant, Breaker!
Bore da pawb / good morning all. The other half was up for work at 4 so I've been up since then (the dog's asleep on the other sofa).
I've just checked the Rabo fixtures against our holiday to the Algarve and it looks like I'll be missing Edinburgh away (which probably won't be on telly anyway) and the Scarlets at home. I'm gutted about that one. We fly back on the Sunday - the morning, I think - but I bet it'll be a Friday evening kick-off. Boo-urns!

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for sustainability, but it works both ways. This butterfly only lives on chalk ground because of one plant that lives there, and that can only survive if the grass is short, the caterpillar then relies on one type of ant (itself blydi rare) to take it into its hill and feed it. It's specialised itself up a blind alley. Cynical? Yes. Here's to cynicism

Chiefs 20 Crusaders 19. final score
I get what you're saying, Glas. A very tenuous and gossamer like thread those bugs are dependent on. You'd think those ants would get the message and consider relocating off to the side of the chalk/short grass areas. It's a crazy web of life...
What gets me is all the air miles these new-age environmentalists chalk up going to conventions where nothing concrete ('scuse the pun) seems to be achieved. A lot of non-renewable energy gets used - not to mention enlargement of the holes in the ozone layer.

There's no need for anyone to travel anywhere for meetings these days. Just have a video conference instead. It's a joke (which won't be funny when it's looked back on) when world leaders jet off to environmental summits and emerge triumphantly with nothing but a solemn vow to meet in a few years' time to postpone action again.
(That's the closest to a butterfly I could find.)

Glas wouldn't be the first to do that. Apparently that's why JJ Cale changed his name to that in the first place.
I'm watching Roogby League cause there's nowt else on. More northern than Corrie this. The fans sound like footie fans though which is confusing...

Pity for the final that. I fancy Wigan to win it anyway, but Warrington tend to do a bit better v Wigan, so would make it more competitive. I'm trying to be part of the guard of honour for the final.

I'll probably work through a few other team threads during the week.

I'm guessing the phrase massive has not reached outside the confines of Cork. Another word for great. Cork hurlers beating Kilkenny was the main thing, but getting verified for an American football press event was also pretty cool. The brother is also travelling down from San Francisco to hook up with the rest of the family in Florida so happy days.
My sister was also medically cleared to go on rollercoasters and the like so that's great for her as it's something she really enjoys so good day all round.

But, that does indeed sound like a "Massive" weekend!

Swanny - 37 hours of transit with only a burger at Sydney airport to break up the in flight grub was drab.
