As it turns out, I only ended up playing 1 game because the team that the 2s were meant to be playing after the 1st game called off an hour before kick off! I’m not going to name and shame them, but let’s say they are from an overspill from Glasgow, just outside of Edinburgh on the M8, that begins with L…
However the game for the 1s was sufficiently painful enough after 11 months out of rugby action!

I actually quite like the Edinburgh hoops, better than any of their previous macron kits IMO. This new Glasgow one I'm not so sure about but better than the paint splatter one from a couple of years ago and like I say I think it will grow on me. I do like the way the BT Sport logo has been badly photoshopped onto Al Kellock's chest.

Like what they've tried to do with the Rennie Mac lattice but any attempt at sophistication is given a swift kick in the crackers by that heinous duck egg blue, the only colour that doesn't exist in nature and genuinely suits nobody. It's'a little bit weird and quite disappointing.
Edinburgh's'strip is much better - it at least looks modern.
Gutted from Ayrshire.

It looks better on the away kit, a bit like an Argentina colour scheme which I quite like. The home colours are more like this old ospreys one http://www.oldrugbyshirts.com/en/teams/o/ospreys/old-ospreys-rugby-shirt-s3102.html
I think the colours would look better if it wasn't just a big rectangle over the shoulders

Fine then – Jack Cuthbert makes Sean Maitland look like a sloth in comparison!
I’d pick Ben Atiga over Alex Dunbar any day of the week!
Or, in old firm speak:
That Cuthbert f***y is pure rapid – makes Maitland look like a big slow hing
Dunbar is pish – Ben Atiga is the dogs baws!

BBC Scotland ‘sport’ is the worst – I have regular Twitter rants at them when they spend 10 minutes talking about Sunday league ladies football when there’s been a big Edinburgh or Glasgow game on.

Did anyone else go to the Warriors Open day yesterday at Scotstoun and if so what were their thoughts?
I went along with the kids and we all had a very good day, even despite the odd “shower”. Very well organised day, where the full squad went through a training session then stayed for ages after, signing loads of autographs.
Club also laid on Face painting and Rugby challenges for the kids as well as stumping up for Burgers and Hot Dogs etc It was too windy for the bouncy castle etc for the younger kids which was a shame but unavoidable.
Really good idea overall as it was their first pre-season thing that involves the whole family. There were loads of kids there, so hopefully a few more people getting made more aware of the Warriors brand.
Well done to the club!

Speaking of employing people, Edinburgh will no longer have Graham Easton as their stadium announcer. Instead its some guy called DJ Boogie..? Worst DJ name ever?
Re: New Edinburgh and Glasgow Teams Thread - 2013/2014
Boogie as in the Forth One presenter? To be fair he’s pretty big in Edinburgh – the equivalent of Des and Jenny on Capital. And his last name is Boogle or something like that!

He is called Boogie as his surname is Bouglas! He is originally from Hawick and to be fair he has a decent understanding of the game! (enough to be a stadium announcer)
He is also a bloomin funny guy!
Also, did you know he was Hawick BMX champion?

Easton made a career out of it so it must be manageable. As has been said – Boogie is good and pretty funny! I’m surprised they got him though – his breakfast show goes out over the entire network (Edinburgh, Fife, Tayside, Clyde) so he is well known in Scottish radio. Probably earning more than Easton for doing it (who was pretty good himself!)Dorothy_Mantooth wrote:Wonder how much these guys get? Whatever it is its a waste of money.

Oh, and I forgot to say!
I like the new weedge away top, but the home one is (as they say in the weedge) Boggin!
Whats with the huge dark section from the chest down? Glasgow trying to change their team colours?

Re: New Edinburgh and Glasgow Teams Thread - 2013/2014
I've been away with no internet access for the last week and so missed out on a lot.
I really hope MacInally's change was made at the start of pre-season rather than this week so he at least had some time to alter his body shape and work on the skills, Tom Youngs said that as a centre his chest wasn't flexible enough to throw into the lineout and he had to work on it, I expect centres and back-rows have similar gym requirements and MacInally would have the same problem. If it works out then it's a great decision but he could still make it as a back-rower whereas Tom Youngs had no choice if he wanted to stay pro.
I like both the kits but I hope the Edinburgh photos have been altered and they aren't as shiny as in the pictures because otherwise they'll look effeminate as well as play like it.

Squad looks decent in all departments and there is no gaping holes, unless there is an issue with a players long(ish) term fitness that has not been made public.
If there are no hidden injury worries, then unless we are signing a quality player who is going to start, I don't really see the point in adding another squad player. Surely we have to leave some space for an EDP player to get the odd chance.
Would love it to be a quality Ten, but can't see that happening because we already have players and if a decent 10 becomes available, I would assume he would be Edinburgh bound.
On another note, George Hunter our EDP prop has gone to London Scottish on an 1 year loan deal. Which I think is a good idea.

Looking forward to hearing all about the new signing. Hope it's a back row to annoy those from the Far East.
Whisper it, but I actually prefer the new Edinburgh top to ours. That said it might be all in the presentation. Maybe after swing them model, we have found something the Edinburgh players are better at.

I honestly wouldn't want a stand-off at Glasgow right now - I remain confident that Meatball will develop into the full deal, slightly less so that Rhubarb will (but he still might), am hopeful that Peter Horne could become a great 10 (even more uncertain), and am happy enough that in Scott Wight and the likes of Finn Russell, we have adequate cover and potential

The meatball still has potential!
Rhubard, not so!
Glasgow could do with playing meatball and sticking with him!
As for horne, I'd leave him at centre! He looks far more confortable there! When he played 10 for Scotland, he was like a frightened rabbit in the headlights!

As for horne, I'd leave him at centre! He looks far more confortable there! When he played 10 for Scotland, he was like a frightened rabbit in the headlights!

Re: New Edinburgh and Glasgow Teams Thread - 2013/2014
If Glasgow want to go to the next level then we need better and more consistent play from the Stand off position. Obviously they are going to stick with what we have got and I fully understand why. But what I was saying is that if were offered a player of say Maitlands ability (Lions standard) and there was no consideration for Scotland, then Stand Off would be the position I would pick to strengthen.RDW_Scotland wrote:I can understand why you weege want a stand off, you only have 2 capped Internationalists after all….
We do have two capped internationals at 10, but to be fair we have two capped internationals at every position.

Might be an Eight with Strauss making a more permanent move to six.Weegie Wizard wrote:Looking forward to hearing all about the new signing. Hope it's a back row to annoy those from the Far East.

Again, Edinburgh only have 1 player who is a regular 6, and 1 who is a regular 8 – we’ve definitely got dibs!Dorothy_Mantooth wrote:Might be an Eight with Strauss making a more permanent move to six.Weegie Wizard wrote:Looking forward to hearing all about the new signing. I am only thinking out loud, from a Glasgow perspective. Who knows if it is a 6 or an 8, he might have been offered to Edinburgh first and they knocked it back, like what happened with Maitland last year.

I must have suppressed that memory!
I can understand if they knocked him to keep visser. But Lee "can't catch, can't tackle, can't pass, can't step" Jones!!!!
See
Now I'm angry again

Glasgow are actually quite thin at 2nd row with only Kellock, Swinson, Ryder and very green Gray as 4th choice.
Would make sense if that was a lock.

I absolutely detest the new Warriors strip. it reminds me of a 1970's football strip. When I look at it all I can think of is Kevin Keegan and perms.

We have 8 - you're welcome to one or two of them!VinceWLB wrote:Glasgow are actually quite thin at 2nd row with only Kellock, Swinson, Ryder and very green Gray as 4th choice.

Is McAlipne not from Stirling? Surely he wouldn't mind a switch to get more gametime?
