Re: US Open - Matches
I don't think I've seen Stan play this well and, more importantly, play consistently well. All credit to him, he's always had the ability but he's never had the physical capability and/or the mental fortitude. In my eyes, he's a better version of Gasquet. I do want to see him beat The Fed sometime though!!

Re: US Open - Matches
Nonsense. It is one of his means of winning but has others as well. Perhaps it is as Rafa said in his interview as in if he feels really good he is more attacking.LuvSports! wrote:

The net cord seems about 25cm too high for Andy tonight.

It's funny to hear M.Petchey almost pleading with Stan to relent with this onslaught...

He had 4 in that final Juan. Didn't take any mind. The Special Juan wrote:2013 AO final.Danny_1982 wrote:His only chance is for much more first serves in, much better returning too, particularly on second serves. Am I right in saying he's had no break points? Unheard of for Murray.
Stan breaks here and it's over.

I never thought Stan would find anywhere near the level he did against Djokovic AO 2013. He has absolutely trashed Andy's defence tonight

This just about sums it up the best for me. On this form though Stan could very much take Djokovic out in the semi.TopoftheChops wrote:Andy has been pathetic, Stan has been awesome.

Re: US Open - Matches
Even if he does beat Djokovic, he'll never beat Nadal. Nadal just unrelentingly beats on single-handed backhands which must be one of sports greatest mismatches.

So far the Stan the Man is proving who the man is.The Special Juan wrote:Me too, but I hope it's not this tournamentlaverfan wrote:Very glad for Gasquet, the second slam SF of his career (after a 6+ year gap), but what a challenge he has!
(I am sad for Ferrer though, he fought back well, but not well enough).
Stan and Colonel have their work cut-out. Stan has a better chance, IMHO, compared to the Colonel. I would love to see Stan make it to a Slam SF.

It annoys me how the commentators are barely giving Wawrinka any credit it all - they seem to think that the score is all down to Murray playing badly, rather than Stan playing a blinder.

I can't believe the number of returns that the greatest ever returner on hard courts has missed today.

Gasquet has no chance of winning a set vs Nadal, however, Stan in this form could take Rafa to 5 ....but lose in the end.Jahu wrote:Gasquet-Stan final anyone?

Re: US Open - Matches
Andy has played the whole tournament with a slow pace behind his groundstrokes and today the conditions haven't lent themselves to that style of tennis. Wawrinka has put on a clinic today and it is refreshing to see.

Re: US Open - Matches
The backhand volley from Stan was like making a statement "Who the more skilled players?", breath taking volley there to get to break point.

Re: US Open - Matches
Stan wins in straight sets...well ok it was a hammering. I can't recall the last time I saw Andy play so poorly but credit to Stan who has been superb. On this form he has a great chance against Djokovic in the semis. For Andy he needs to work out a game plan against hard hitters as these defeats against them are getting tedious.
Still I refuse to be distraught as it has been a wonderful last year and a bit for Andy but today he was beaten by the better man.
