2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread is continued...again
First topic message reminder :
Four days left of the transfer window and still Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle still aren't moving quickly. The Bale deal still hasn't gone through, there is still speculation that Real Madrid may go back in for Suarez and Arsenal could break the transfer record. Tottenham have also decided to sign everybody.
Available at the moment seems to be a list of the players who were the best in the world five years ago:
Kaka
Fernando Torres
Samuel Eto'o (until yesterday)

Don't see him leaving Juve tbh mateDolphin Ziggler wrote:Telegraph also convinced that Quagliarella is the player coming to West Ham. £300k loan fee. Silkman (who has dealings with us) is reportedly on a plane with a player coming over to London.
Could Quagliarella finally sign for us after more than 3 years of window's linked with us?! Can he finally leave Juve so that he isnt linked to EVERY middling English club?

Best thing about supporting a side not in the Premier League?
Transfer Window closes today, loan window will be re-opened in about a week

I love the loan window in the FL too, seeing those clubs being able to add one or two who could completely change their season.
Sorry, Ent. I LOVE DEADLINE DAY. I am not sure he'll come Olly, but I just want someone to have some cover when Carroll is injured. Especially now Cole is out for a month and Downing for two or three weeks, our supply line will suffer so we need a better striker in support, and one that could also fill in on the wing would be grand.

For Crawley Town, a successful deadline day is keeping our best players. If that happens, I can relax and watch Arsenal sign Alexis Sanchez for £55m at 11pm tonight.

Don't be such a wet blanket. It's the entertainment factor. Everyone would agree these deals should have been completed long ago, but the fact clubs leave it until the last minute is what makes it so dramatic to us fans.Ent wrote:I hate it, there's 2 plus months to do business no need for any deals to be done on the last day.Dolphin Ziggler wrote:I love the loan window in the FL too, seeing those clubs being able to add one or two who could completely change their season.

It's false drama though, one thing I hate about modern football - all the dressing up and trying to create moments and drama.Marky wrote:Don't be such a wet blanket. It's the entertainment factor. I'm convinced Stoke are waiting to make deadline day moves, its in their nature. Pounce on some squad rejects.
Theres a few players who could get itchy trigger finger moves away from their clubs. The likes of Barry, Skrtel, Sessegnon etc. And theres a few clubs like Stoke, West Ham, Newcastle, Sunderland, WBA etc who will want maybe one or two more if they can.

I love deadline day, think tomorrow could be a great one with Arsenal and Manchester United still yet to spend. Liverpool could be making three signings as well, expect Newcastle and Everton to be busy. I think QPR will make a big signing from the Premier League.

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread is continued...again
Whilst entertaining in some aspects on the grander scale I find it a hugely negative aspect on the game. When we talk about players being paid gross salaries and over inflated transfer fee's this is one thing which does nothing to stop it from happening....instead it play's right into the hands of the greedy men of football whose consistent wranglings throughout the summer all lead to this...
1 day where agents say 'oh so and so are also in for him...he want's X amount more'....
Chairmen slap on an extra few million knowing clubs will pay for them because they need numbers in the squad...
Unhappy players manufacture last minute moves away; forgetting all about the 5 year contract they signed 18 months prior.
It is a 24 hour frenzy of over-indulgence, massaging of player/club ego's and pampering which everyone savours and then will spend the next 11 months moaning about!

I love deadline day, given my club usually spends no more than a few grand at most on a player, watching the silly money flying across the big European leagues is the footballing equivalent of porn for me.

Sorry, thats being negative for the sake of it. Enjoy football, enjoy the drama of this. We pay a lot of money for it.
The open trade windows of years gone by did harm to stability of clubs. Benteke's form last year for example. Say Arsenal panic in February and throw money at him. Even if he doesnt move, it unsettles the player, he could then lose form and Villa are left with an unsavory situation that Arsenal have no need to deal with anymore.
The contract point is certainly moot. The windows force clubs and players to deal with their situation. Dont get the move you want? Well, you aint going anywhere now so knuckle down.
Let alone that this is one day! This isnt really a 24 hour frenzy, its a finish to a few months of work. The prices should be rising on the last day, theres less time to react to replace players.
Funnily enough, I dont think one of your points is backed up by this "day" not existing.
I mean, overpaid players and inflated transfer fees are Deadline Day's (I will give it capitals, its a jolly fun day) fault? Its a manufactured media event.
God knows how long the Bale deal would have taken if there was no deadline!!
Whilst I can understand arguments for it to close earlier, the window is fair game for me. Speculation decreases in the press come the end. They know it doesnt sell their papers anymore, and we should all know by now that papers dont report these "stories" to keep us informed, this is another key aspect of business in the media industry.
If you want anyone to chastise for the transfer debacles then you look straight to the media.
I embrace it. Its entertaining, provokes debate and excitement and in many ways quite definitive. Good for players, agents, chairmen, managers and fans.

Hopefully we get rid of.

At best they might just be loaned out(sadly).

Ozil is a world class player, £42.5m for him is a fair price, especially considering Bale cost £85m, Andy Carroll cost £35m etc. United should be all over that. Herrera is worth nowhere near £30m, whereas with Ozil you know he's going to win you games.

United are after fellaini, there playing a game with talking with ozil representatives. Confirmed by sky, they've made no bid and are not intending to bid. Baines is going nowhere. Hopefully arsenal get ozil, good player but £42.5m is ridiculous pricing nowadays but that's what hes worth if you compare to other players I guess. Football fee are just getting out of control. Hopefully cabaye is staying at Newcastle.

Fellaini to United is almost certain. I have heard the clubs have agreed a fee (although they didn't know how much) and that talks on personal terms had begun yesterday.
Also noticed a few media reports saying Everton wanted Zaha on loan as part of the deal, although there was absolutely no mention of Zaha from my mate.
How would United fans feel if their two TDD signings were Herrera and Fellaini (as is looking increasingly likely)

This.Crimey wrote:It makes me sad that Real Madrid buy Bale for a world record fee but are happy to let Ozil go, I'd rather have Ozil every day of the week. Bale has only just broken double figures in goals last year in the league for the first time. He's nowhere near the level Ronaldo was when he moved, and Ronaldo only got better. I can't see Bale justifying the price tag, he may make it up through shirt sales and merchandising etc. but the same could be said if they spent less on him or bought a less expensive player. Ronaldo just about justifies the price tag by scoring a goal a game on average, I can't see Bale hitting those heights.
Also £300k a week is absolutely ridiculous, I think that's more than Messi!
Bale's had one very good season, and is suddenly worth £85 million? He'll doubtless do better in La Liga that the Premiership, like Ronaldo, because it's a lesser standard of football, but £85 million?!
Tottenham are laughing all the way to the bank.

Cazorla's nasty 'tackle' on Capoue yesterday took a bit of the shine off Spurs' impressive signings. For Spurs' sake they need him fit. Lamela looks like he's going to struggle with the colossal waste of space that is Kyle Walker supporting him. Walker had probably the worst game I've ever seen a RB have in a north London derby. Atrocious from start to finish.

Ozil is class, be a great signing for Arsenal (though they need a CB and CF more) and incredibly frustrating if United miss out.

Would take that tbh, our midfield is in serious need of a freshen up. Fellaini for dynamism, grit and aerial threat, Herrera for some desperately needed creativity.BigFellasAfro wrote:Fellaini to United is almost certain. In a sense i'd rather have Herrera and Feilaini to Ozil, we need central midfielders not another attacking midfielder. Ozil would be a nice luxury player to have but our need are greater elsewhere, or we could just buy all three with all the new sponsorship money we have.

United need Ozil more than Herrera. You might have Kagawa, but he clearly isn't in your plans. Herrera isn't going to be the creative genius you need him to be, Ozil would be by far the better purchase.

If Kagawa isn't in our plans then Ozil won't be either, no matter how great he is.
