2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread is continued...again
First topic message reminder :
Four days left of the transfer window and still Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle still aren't moving quickly. The Bale deal still hasn't gone through, there is still speculation that Real Madrid may go back in for Suarez and Arsenal could break the transfer record. Tottenham have also decided to sign everybody.
Available at the moment seems to be a list of the players who were the best in the world five years ago:
Kaka
Fernando Torres
Samuel Eto'o (until yesterday)

They sold it for £3m because they were broke at the time and Bale wasn't considered worth much.
If you remember someone posted on here that there was talk of Spurs having to offer cash + Bale for Downing at one point, that's how lowly regarded Bale was a few years back.

Agreed. If Giroud went down injured, they'd be left with Sanogo or Walcott up front. Now Ba could come in, he's a handy guy to have. Rumour is he turned down a loan move to AlbionTopHat24/7 wrote:Good signing for Arsenal if so.GSC wrote:Ba on loan to Arsenal apparently

We are apparently in talks with three players, all long shots, and also in talks to offload three.
And they reckon we've had contact with Carlton who we could sign after the window if we fail with targets.

I'm still really not convinced by Ba, he did really well at West Ham and Newcastle, but then when Cisse came in he just cooled off, picked up his form again and at Chelsea was really poor. I suppose it's a low risk signing as a back up forward and he'll bag a few goals, but a massive step down from the forwards they had tried to sign. I assume Wenger is putting his faith in Giroud.
Good to see Liverpool seal the deals early. Hopefully Given will come in over the next couple of hours.

Not that exciting as of yet for Newcastle fans. Gomis is staying apparently, we must be offering a deal for Demba Ba too, however he would choose Arsenal every day of the week. Keep hearing about Tom Ince, as of yet no confirmation of any bid.
Fellaini to United is surely a done deal. I'm just waiting for some big deal to come out of the woodwork to spice things up. Everything is kind of known about at the moment, it's just a case of getting confirmation.

Thats why I thought Spurs were being arsey because they had to give Southampton there cut?
I think they still get something like 0.5% - 1% anyway but still thats a bad clanger.

Ozil is the big one of the day I think. United will snap up two midfielders too, but not on the scale of Ozil signing. Di Maria seems to be being touted around for PSG and Arsenal, with the French team offering more money (surprisingly).
Sakho is a great signing for Liverpool, thats cracking business.
(Edit: Apparently it was 25)

Great tweet i've just seen that apparently Mike Ashley let Cabaye listen to Arsenal's phonecall over him. Apparently heard them say "£25m a lot for a reserve player" and it considerably changed his mood.
I mean, thats amazing if true and an amazingly creative lie if not.

As an aside, I thought Flamini looked rubbish against Spurs. Clumsy, didn't offer anything, looked like he owned the place. Ozil coming in would shove him back in the reserves where he belongs.

Good signing for Arsenal, finally got someone over the line. Think he's a very good player, is he worth £42.5m......no. If he's worth that, Cabaye is worth £25m+. You've got to think that this is the reason Arsenal will get him because every other player they've tried to get has been hijacked from them, but in this case, no other team is going to pay that amount of money. You probably wont agree but that's my opinion. Do i think Ozil really wanted to join Arsenal....not in my opinion. He knows he needs to play though, especially in a world cup year, so it's forced his hand.

In the front four. Ozil, Cazorla, Walcott behind Giroud. I think Flamini did ok, hes a bit rough and tumble which they need in their squad. Got to consider hes not had the preparation of others for that game.
Good to see Bale confident and speaking some Spanish at the unveiling. Good luck to him.

That's my point, United are not willing to pay over the odds for Ozil. That's why Arsenal have succeeded and failed with every other target apart from this one.

Wales and Swansea defender Ashley Williams on Twitter: "All this fuss about Gareth Bale reminds me of my transfer from Hednesford Town to Stockport County."
I expected Arsenal to try and get Song back in this window.
Ozil is an excellent signing. I'd rather have him than Bale.

Ozil's price is fine. He's in that tier below Messi and Ronaldo, alongside the Mullers, Schweinsteigers, Pirlos and Marchisios of the world. He's absolutely world class, so £42.5m is a good deal for Arsenal. He's their best player if he signs.

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread is continued...again
WHAT?! On the basis of Bale going for £85 million I would say Modric is a steal for half that. Has proved himself both in England and with one of the best teams in the world. I would say he has had a more consistent and better career than Bale so far (who lets face it had one exceptional season). He is also the same age so they get a player who has still to hit his peak.John wrote:Good signing for Arsenal, finally got someone over the line. Don't believe a word of that Cabaye tweet.
When you see Carrol going for £35 mil, Milner £28 mil, Henderson £20 mil Arsenal should be arrested for theft!
Cabaye is worth no more than £20 million and I would argue that is being kind!
Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread is continued...again
I wanted to say that earlier but was afraid everyone would laugh. Glad someone agrees. Bale is one-dimensional, Ozil has far more creative options under his belt. And doesn't dive either.Crimey wrote:Ozil is an excellent signing. I'd rather have him than Bale.

Yes, if Ozil is £42.5m, Fellaini should be £25m, Herrera £20m tops, and Cabaye something around £12m-£15m.

Re: 2013 Summer Transfer Window Thread is continued...again
I would ask the same question! Although they have less need for him with Rooney and Kagawa, whereas Ozil is better than Podolski so he'll slot right in. Is Ozil better than Kagawa? Probably, but not £42m worth maybe. The Special Juan wrote:Then why aren't Utd trying to get him? My head hurts now.Dolphin Ziggler wrote:They shouldnt not buy Ozil cos they may need someone else. He's also been consistently one of the best players in the world since 2010, Bale has had maybe two 6 month spells where he has looked at his best. Last year was the first time he'd scored more than 10 league goals in a season.Azzy Mahmood wrote:I wanted to say that earlier but was afraid everyone would laugh. Glad someone agrees.
