Ross Barkley = Lots of talent.
Maybe England should build their team around him for 2022, when we're inevitably managed by Lord Beckham?

He would have retired, and taken to singing on open-top buses, like other England managers.

Beckham as manager would be the sign we've finally abandoned all hope of competing and just want to sell merchandise

Very impressed by Everton. Barry is bossing it in the middle and Jelavic is playing very well upfront. His assist was done superbly well, most strikers would of stupidly tried to score from that angle, but he used his brain and set up Naismith, who tucked his header in very well.
Everton deserve to be winning IMO.

Chelsea are pushing hard, Eto'o has looked rusty, if it was Torres putting in that performance he would be getting ripped to shreds.

Eto'o has looked ok to me. Nice passes and looks far more technically sound than Torres. Weight of pass seems better too. They've both lost the burst of pace, but one looks like it was an asset in his game and the other looks like it was his game.

Don't be so ridiculous mysti, Moyes took Everton as far as they were going to get. They always made it difficult for the top teams. I can see them being a little inconsistent with Martinez, as per his Wigan team which looked exceptional one day and League One standard the next.
Everton really need a second goal, otherwise this will end up being a draw or even a Chelsea win.

I think that's unfair on Torres, I don't think he relied on his pace quite as much as Owen did, he has adapted his game and is technically a better footballer, think it's all about confidence for me. Not sure there is much between Eto'o or Torres at the moment.Dolphin Ziggler wrote:Eto'o has looked ok to me. Nice passes and looks far more technically sound than Torres. They look good, but have still spent the entire second half camped in their own half. They looked good under Moyes though, you can't say that Moyes has done badly at Everton and now suddenly they look good. There is very little difference between this performance and the one they had under Moyes.mystiroakey wrote:They look really good to me crimey!!

3 clean sheets in a row for Everton if they hang on here, and unbeaten after 4 games (admittedly this would be their first win).

It's weird how average the three title challengers in Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea have looked so far. Marathon not a sprint, but I think all three would have thought they'd have more points on the board at this point.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
I'm pretty sure Martinez called Barkley the new 'Michael Ballack' last week. He'll get rushed into the England side and ruined. He'll leave Everton next summer and sit on the bench at City or Chelsea. Typical.
Agree with Crimey. City, United & Chelsea have looked average. No wonder they've struggled in the top European competition against the top sides.
As for this weekend, three players I never would of put in the 'had a great weekend' category but Barry, Ramsey & Gouffran have delivered. Football......bloody hell!

Michael Owen had a column in the telegraph today that you should hunt down and read. He said England's problem wasn't possession, it was having creative players that can move in between the lines and dictate the effective nature of possession play (it was written better). Barkley is showing the attributes to do such things. He reminds me of Joey (Cole) who Owen referenced as a player who in the English game who was considered a luxury and moved wide.
These days the likes of Beardsley and others would be wingers.

Mourinho has openly criticised Andre Schurrle, after Di Canio this is very odd, can't remember it ever happening before where the manager is so critical of his own players in the media.
I was excited to see Mourinho back in the Premier League but have been very underwhelmed so far, Chelsea don't look much better under him and his aura in press conferences and interviews has been lost a little, nowhere near as confident in himself, think the Madrid experience broke him.

Great assist by Ozil to set up Giroud, showing his class already. Wow if Giroud gets injured, Arsenal are simply screwed.
No idea what Carl Jenkinson was thinking lunging in in the penalty area, pen taken well by Craig Gardner.
Fantastic goals from Aarron Ramsey, wheres all his haters at the moment?
Martin Atkinson what a complete idiot, Sagna should of been sent off. Goal should of stood. Just poor poor officiating. Has to be demoted IMO.
Paulo Di Canio legend hahahahaha.

Almost classic Arsenal, play the opposition of the park and go to sleep
Can see what Flamini brings to the team, steel and organises the team.
Good spirit from Sunderland. Bit of a wildcard, who knows how it will all end
