The Culture Cup round 2.

First topic message reminder :

OK, after the roaring success of round one, here is the roundup.

Round 1 threw up a few surprises, not least seanmichaels claiming first place and Galted close behind in second.  Not the section of the league that these two usually frequent.  It was clearly incorrect because To Kill a Mockingbird is obviously superior to Lord of the Rings but there is nowt as queer as folk and the good people of 606v2 have spoken.  They have also spoken enough to garner Niall Quinn's autobiography some votes and some points, despite the p*ss taking throughout.

Adam has made his usual solid start, taking third place which is one below where he will inevitably end up.  Perhaps the biggest surprise is that Union finished with a vote and some points.  Remarkable.

Question 3:  What is the best film released since the turn of the century? Culture isn't limited to old sh*t so what is the best film released since the 1st January 2000.  This should eliminate some people choosing old films that they haven't actually seen but come near the top of best film lists.  It can be re-releases if you want, animated films, porn, whatever you think deserves a mention.  Fo' shizzle.

If you thought rd 2 had some good choices, rd 3 is really strong! There are about 6 or 7 that I would happily vote for so far.

For the first time ever, I would even consider Union's choice as truly excellent. Although his second nomination was shocking.

I believe so, without it surely it would refer to multiple ducks. Am sure Union will clear it all up soon enough.

2 films I forgot to nominate, and possibly enjoyed more than my suggestion, were Man on Fire and Training Day. One of my favourite actors is Mr Denzil Washington.

Very true Sean, because Gervais has made some awful films and his work since has been very hit and miss it is all too easy to forget how great The Office was. The episodes with the training session and the quiz are just about perfect.

Brent's comparison between his workplace and comic relief is always a highlight for me, Rowley.

As it so happens Julius, your nomination of the Big Sleep inspired me to re-read it. Now that's a great book. If the culture cup achieves nothing else, it may at least serve as a means of recommending great books/ films/ music.

One of my favourites is his star trek crufts comparison in the quiz Chris. Almost love about every minute of the trainign episode. When Gareth and Tim are trying to solve that puzzle.

Really regret my choice, chose a song I hated but thought it'd be more populist than it was.

I hadn't but to be fair that is perhaps no reflection on the song. I am something of an ignoramus when it comes to modern music.

It is not modern, Jeff, it is from the mid nineties.

It is track 2 on my Happy Hardcore set if that helps jog your memory.

If people don't start voting for my song choice soon I may have to reconsider my involvement in this competition.

The mid ninties is modern to me Union. Am just waiting for the round on obscure mid sixties freakbeat/mod bands. I come into my own at that point.
