Re: HC, Pool 2, Round 1: Toulon v Glasgow Warriors
Swap Jacko for Weir, Reid for Kalman (Jerry to play TH), Ascarate for (dare I suggest such a thing?!), and we're going to win.
Like... properly, definitely, maybe, totally going to win.

Hmmm, nice big pack.
As you say vince not convinced by our Enery at 9. In there for his goal kicking maybe?

Re: HC, Pool 2, Round 1: Toulon v Glasgow Warriors
Didn't realise Hoggy was injured - that's not good - he's a game changer and he wasn't even fully fit to start with so will now fall further behind. If Hogg isn't kicking for goal, then I'm more inclined to choose Weir over Jackson for his higher percentages - but then we loose Jackson's ability to set a backline running. How annoying.

Re: HC, Pool 2, Round 1: Toulon v Glasgow Warriors
In other news it has been reported that Townsend woke up this morning and decided to let his old mate Andy Robinson pick his pack for the Toulon match. His first comments were reportedly "well you've got your backrow of Harley, Strauss and Fusaro all mixed up, it's far too balanced! What you really need is 3 locks, your best scrum-half on the wing and Ed Kalman".

Re: HC, Pool 2, Round 1: Toulon v Glasgow Warriors
I wouldn't have DTH VDM who i consider to be Glasgow's best back out of the starting 15, never.
Sean Lamont out is quite a blow too as he has been excellent and is a very good defender.

Re: HC, Pool 2, Round 1: Toulon v Glasgow Warriors
I'll be patient, but gotta admit, no Harley, no Cusiter, no Jerry, etc, a few positional switches also - makes for uncomfortable reading.

Re: HC, Pool 2, Round 1: Toulon v Glasgow Warriors
I didn't have nerves before, was fully confident of Glasgow surprising the Toulon faithful and claiming a bonus point if not a win, kind of worried now... Don't think we'll get thrashed but the fact Townsend couldnt choose between Youthful talent, inspirational leadership but poor play or the best lock we have when on form (still think he could play 50% better than he already has) speaks of indecision which is not good for sport - make a decision for christ sake and stick to it but don't make a half ars*d-decision like this!

Re: HC, Pool 2, Round 1: Toulon v Glasgow Warriors
Have patience, chaps.
Pyrgos is in for his goal-kicking, let's just hope he can play at a decent pace, as that's what Toonie apparently wants.
Shame for Harley, but the team is still very strong.

Re: HC, Pool 2, Round 1: Toulon v Glasgow Warriors
We have to keep our eyes on next week - if we lose at home to Asbo's surrogate family, we might as well pack up our horn helmets and give up on Europe.
I'm not saying we should field a weaker team against Toulon, but I'd rather lose against Toulon and be ready to win next week, than to lose both gloriously. We've been glorious in Europe - it's time to be smart , now.
Actually what in the holy handcarts am I saying?? We're gonna win them BOTH!!
COME ON GLASGOW!!

Re: HC, Pool 2, Round 1: Toulon v Glasgow Warriors
Strange selection from Toulon too, they have their better front row on the bench.
Pack not as powerfull as Toonie predicted (probably expected Rossouw at 6) so the decision to have Swinson at 6 seems even stranger now.
Remember Grant giving Castro a bit of a hidding the last 6N, hope for more of the same on sunday.

Its going to be good watching Tuisova up against Matawalu on the wing - both fiji 7's players.

Re: HC, Pool 2, Round 1: Toulon v Glasgow Warriors
Feel like Townsend has picked a team to counter Toulon rather than play themselves.
Realistically there are only two selections that are contentious: Swinson at 6 and Niko at 11.
Glasgow's best chance to beat Toulon was to go for hell for leather and try find that style they played at the tail end of last season. Coupled with their water-tight, aggressive defence they were a hell of a team at full tilt.
Niko was at the epicentre of it, so posting him out on the wing wastes him. (plus I rate Cusiter ahead of Pyrgos)
Is the Swinson decision motivated by the need for Kellock's leadership or to bulk up the pack for Toulon?
Losing Harley isn't worth it imo, he's build for this type of match and his contribution is under appreciated, plus he's a big boy at 6'6 and 17st.

I'm concerned about those same selections myself, but I have felt this way about a lot of Townsend's selections over the past year and have almost always been proved wrong. So I now trust that he knows what he's doing. Matawalu to move to 9 in the second half and create a hat-trick for DTH.

Odd team from Glasgow but I wish them all the best of luck. Tough fixture this, and great experience for young Grey and Bennett.

No Bob Harley ffs. No Cus or Schlong either ! Strange look to the team but Toonie is less than 2% on the Muppet scale and falling so he Now knows best. Brace for Niko (1st half) then brace for DTH (2nd half, post 60 mins) and its lbp for us. Go Warriors

Re: HC, Pool 2, Round 1: Toulon v Glasgow Warriors
Mr Mustard, I agree with you on Toonie's selections and he does seem to be consistently lowering the Muppet rating.
Bigson was expounding the theory that Niko should be considered a winger, first and foremost. In a nutshell; he's fast, unpredictable and pops up in unexpected places to cause havoc. However, as a half back his flashes of brilliance must be set against the fact that there are some things that you expect from a scrum half that he is simply not very good at. Bigson asked if it's a Glasgow thing having halfbacks who are brilliant and ordinary in successive phases of play. He didn't actually say "Dan Parks" but he was humming "I've got soul but I'm not a soldier"
Anywise, Swinson gives us a third option at lineouts, which against Botha and Williams may not be a bad thing. He also carries at least as well as Harley. This also allows Ickle Jonny to bring some athleticism to the second row, again no bad thing.
Toulon look as if their bench is set up to go for bonus points in the last twenty. Presumptuous bar stewards! Let's be ahead at 55 minutes and bring on Meatball to kick them into corners and DTH to run back any loose clearance kicks which result. We can win this.
Off message time, brothers. Ribs still niggly. Knuckles still swollen. It's set to rain all day and it's turned cold. Millwall thrashed us at the end of last season. The firsts are missing a few players so we will have a makeshift side. We've lost four games on the bounce. There's a VP's lunch tomorrow so a lot of my old muckers will be there to smirk behind their pint glasses if I don't perform. And I can't wait. I may have to put a single malt in my kit bag to kindle some warmth in the changing room before the match, but lets be honest I'm sick of losing and perhaps tomorrow will be our day.

I'm running through the best Rocky quotes to psyche myself up for Sunday, so...
'No pain, NO PAIN!! '
'He's not a machine, he a MAN!!'
'Hit the one in the middle!' (solid advice for any situation involving Strathclyde Police)
'You ain't so BAD!!'
'Don't ask me to stop being a man, Adrian... '
And my personal favorite...
'Condominiums? .... I never use them...'

Fairly confident they'll have only the most threadbare understanding of whom they're up against. That always works in the favour of Scottish teams. Most commentators, in their rush to coo over the Toulon team, seem to chalk up Glasgow's'unbeaten run as a fluke or simply inconsequential.21st Century Schizoid Man wrote:Will Toulon be saying wtf is Toonie playing at - or indeed not really bothering at who they are up against ?

Ah the warrior spirit is beginning to stir.
Yes, they don't rate us, the pundits don't rate us, the pies in Toulon are poncey and overpriced.
Unleash Swinson, Strauss and Gray. Meatball and DTH on the bench straining at the leash. Barry is in the form of his life right now and Jedi and Richie V should bring some extra pace into the loose.
Let's just ask them some tough questions, like "Are you gallus enough?"
I would remind the pack of Chunk's remark to an opposing prop as they waited for the ball at a lineout, "Ah widnae staun there if ah wis you"
Is tomorrow the day Dunbar and come of age?
Can hardly wait.

Re: HC, Pool 2, Round 1: Toulon v Glasgow Warriors
After thinking about it i can see Glasgow dominating the scrums in the first half.
Then it can get trickier with the repacement front rows coming in.
I can see Low coming in for Welsh at TH at around the 50' mark then Kalman for Low at around the 70' and Low going to LH for Grant.
These new rules are great, big heavy packs aren't dominating anymore, Zebre did ok against a big Toulouse pack yesterday.

Zebre at least scored a nice try. Some improvement from Aironi although their defense was pretty poor after 10 minutes.

Believe it or not Zebre are tied 4th in try scored in the league but they are the worst defense bar Edinburgh!

Never good to see a player out injured but Bastareaud is out which is good news for Glasgow, makes a lot of yards for Toulon.

Re: HC, Pool 2, Round 1: Toulon v Glasgow Warriors
The Herald states Bob Harley rested along with Cusiter. Mmmm ..... strange for this one but maybe Toonie has eyes on the next 2 games also (Exeter and Munster). Lamont was to be on the bench but failed a fitness test - pity as he is a very rich vein of form right now. McGuigan called up from Aberdeen Grammar to replace. Pythagoras in for his 'outstanding in training' kicking for goal (s).
C'mon Warriors give it to them in true Glasgow fashion

Spelling may be slightly wobbly gentlemen. We won our first game of the season today. I wasn't driving; Princess daughter taxied me to and fro. Bigson also played at home and also won!!! Took a bang on the head and am feeling slightly dazed, but it may not be unconnected to the alcohol which apparently I consumed, freely and with gusto. Highlight of the day may have been bumping into old teammates at the VP lunch who didn't rate me as a player years ago but who were sick at seeing me still playing while they have been beaten by the years. Nah the highlight was Pudding, my favourite loose head, telling me how good a player Bigson is then breaking off to find him and tear him off a strip for "going all macho and getting into fisticuffs". Cause of course Pudding was always a model of self restraint and sportsmanship. Did I mention we won? If we only win when the MFL do it'll be a long, miserable season.
GC, I hope you and your coming son have days like this it makes it all worth while.

GC we have a team manager, he's never played the game but he has a clipboard, who keeps putting me on the wing. I then find our captain and tighthead say FFS and lo! I am in the backrow and happy again. My prancing days were twenty years ago.
At the gym with Bigson today then back to his for the game on SKY will take BOTH my Glasgow jerseys with me as I don't want his housemates to think we're French. Mais oui! Allez les Weegies

Right Glasgow I've got a bet on for you to win with a 20 point handicap - surprisingly good odds at 1/2 given they just have to be within 20 points.
So don't get pumped!

Schiz, one jersey for moi and one for Bigson. I realise that you often wear two outfits when dressing yourself; one for you and one for Toonie but some of us are unlucky enough to have just the one personality (disorder).
Ca va Mrs S? Ca va bien I hope.
