The best song ever with 3 or more words in the title.
The Culture Cup round 6
First topic message reminder :
I said it would be Monday morning and, like my milkman, I always deliver. So here is round 6 of quite possibly the most exciting tournament ever. Before we move on to round 6 and the poll for 'The best song ever with 3 or more words in the title' lets have a look at what you could have won in round 5.
Round 5 saw the poll for 'Best piece of literature with a name in the title' and threw up some classic works of literature and no small measure of controversy with the 'missing' and 'reappearing' votes scandal throwing the integrity of the whole competition into doubt. With the mystery still unsolved and the 'missing' votes no closer to being found, I have made the decision to move on, forget the past and continue the competition. At least I am a man of extremely high integrity and moral fibre so we can proceed safe in the knowledge that the Culture Cup is still on the level. I have my finest man (Wingrove) on the case to try and find out what happened but until then, lets move forward in peace.
Round 5 was an interesting one with the votes being split across the board resulting in many posters claiming a decent points haul. Using my complicated results algorithm, you would have only needed to get 1 vote in this round to get 7 points. Sot its bad luck to Union who received no votes, no points and has subsequently seen his already slim chance of winning almost certainly disappear for good. What makes it worse it that he had some votes before 'votegate'. Life can be so cruel. Hero continues to be Mr Consistent and remains on top of the Christmas tree, just as a fairy should be. Julius had a stunning reversal in fortune with his pick of Macbeth claiming top spot for this round. A fair few posters picked up 10 points and at the half way point, the league is still within grasp for a fair few posters. Here are the runners and riders;
Hero (A Streetcar Named Desire): (10) 46
compelling & rich (Schindler's List): (9): 42
seanmichaels (Oliver Twist): (9) 38
Adam (A Christmas Carol): (10) 37
Azzy (The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes): (10) 33
onlytreblewinners (Frankenstein): (10) 32
TopHat (Romeo and Juliet): (10) 32
Galted (The World According to Garp): (7) 30
The Womble (Matilda): (10) 31
Rowley (The Picture of Dorian Grey): (10) 29
superflyweight (The Great Gatsby): (9) 29
Dolphin (Winnie the Pooh): (9) 26
The Boss (Gulliver's Travels): (10) 26
bhb (Hamlet): (7) 25
ChequeredJersey (The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn): (8) 24
jbeadlesbigrighthand (Count of Monte Cristo): (8) 23
Julius ( Macbeth): (12) 22
Union (Horace) (0) 19
Round 7 is back to films and the question is this:Name the greatest film actor or actress born in the same year as you Best film originally released in the decade of your birth. You can, of course, lie if you want to but I doubt any of you are that precious. I will leave it up to your conscience but please PM a couple of choices.
Here is the poll for round 6 and remember, it is open for the whole forum to vote!
PLEASE ONLY VOTE FOR 2 NOMINATIONS I don't think it will survive another voting scandal.

Are Peter Shilton or Tony Dorigo in the game?

Mark Collis and Ferrah Orosco anyone? They were part of the development team but put themselves in the game, I think they were at Cambridge Utd, with maxed out stats.

In my era if you signed Robbie Keane from Wolves you were guaranteed a hatful of goals. That then became Zlatan Ibrahimovic when you could pick him up cheap from Malmo.

Domestically it was always Simon Davies and someone else (maybe Etherington?) from Peterbrough who would go on to be world beaters.Union Cane wrote:Mark Collis and Ferrah Orosco anyone? Nope, I left in 2001. Surprised you went to Kaos if an out an out Uni bloke. I only went there because I lived with guys from the institute. KAOSwas a deathtrap, if there was a fire downstairs it would be game over. I also remember an acquaintance getting caught doing class A's in the bogs there. He got a 1 week ban.
Jesters was more of a Uni place. When I was there you could get a quadruple Vodka and mixer for £2. It was carnage on friday afternoons.

Yeh, Kaos was very much a Dimstitute venue, whereas the Uni folk had Clowns/Jonglers (far superior IMO). But Kaos could be a half decent back-up venue. Plus a worked a few shifts there and had a number of mates, both at the 'stute and not, who worked there for the same company.

Re: The Culture Cup round 6
I recently started wearing a pair of Hi-Tecs that I bought last year. The previous pair were still in quite good nick which is why I continued wearing them but have recently developed holes above the soles which is quite annoying when it's raining as, not only do my socks get wet, but I can feel them squelching. The new pair has taken some time to wear in and I recently noticed that one of them was creaking when I was walking down some stairs. As soon as I'd noticed I walked back up the stairs but no creaking occurred. Relieved as I was, I was still a bit annoyed as I had to walk down the stairs I'd already walked down and hear the creaking again. I've tried to identify which Hi-Tec is causing the creaking but, no matter how slowly I walk down stairs, have been unable to do so. The story does have a happy ending though, I've found out that if I'm listening to my iPod I don't hear the creaking and don't have to wince with embarrassment as I descend each step. So far I've tried The Clash, Ocean Colour Scene, Bjork and Altered Images and they all work (apart from the silence where one song ends and another begins).

Re: The Culture Cup round 6
I'd advise superglue. Never fails on shoes.
I have one leg longer than the other and as a result I wear the soles of my left shoe much quicker than the right. A bit of superglue and a patch of sole from an old pair of shoes and not only is the hole fixed, but i'm also straightened out a bit as the new sole will be that bit higher.

Can't believe I didn't think of that and I've got some Superglue in a drawer in my desk. What a prize chump.seanmichaels wrote:I'd advise superglue.

Not yet, am saving it for the right moment. It's like thinking up a brilliant insult for someone and using it on them when there are only one or two witnesses.Mind the windows Tino. wrote:As dull as it was, I found it infinitely more interesting than the recent discussions on a simulated football game.Galted wrote:They'll be available for the Kindle as soon as I find a publisher.JuliusHMarx wrote:I find that if I read my kindle instead I don't have to read Galted's creaking posts.

Aren't Gore-Tex saving the environment, after no longer bumping no more with no big fat woman?

Sorry, Union, just realised you were there first and Marx stole all the squeaky laughter.
