Could be a bit of a legendary afternoon for Edinburgh, the kind of result that can really give the players some belief in their selves.

Well that was a brilliant game in a game I didn't expect to be anywhere near as gripping as it was. I did think Munster deserved a LBP, but Edinburgh earned that.
Great game of rugby.

Apparently it's Laidlaw's 28th birthday today! he's going to have one hell of a headache come tomorrow!!!!
Re: Edinburgh v Munster HC
My arse in parsley. Who would have thought?
Well done Edinburgh - if any team needed a win, it was us.
Munster looked less cohesive than I've seen them, but Edinburgh's defence was good and we had Greig Laidlaw. Wonder to this day how he would have fared with the Lions. Pretty well, I would have thought.

Re: Edinburgh v Munster HC
Great win for Edinburgh and ultimately richly deserved. Found something extra in the last quarter and although the try was a trifle opportunistic, thereafter they controlled the game superbly as Munster surprisingly lacked composure.
Thought the ref did well as well. Got a couple of calls wrong (the scrum leading to the Munster 2nd try being the most serious mistake I thought) but overall good, consistent and communicated clearly.

Thats one of the best wins I can remember as an Edinburgh fan. Gives us a chance in the HC now to get out of the pool, gives the players some belief and Solomans something to work with in terms of morale. Can this kickstart the season? Can Laidlaw walk on water?

jeez never saw that coming. Well played the MFLs - Laidlaw back to his best. they need a decent FH and an o/c too. De Luca was awful as usual. Denton did well as did Cox. Overall very well played

Re: Edinburgh v Munster HC
True as Butler was anonymous. Unfortunately without TOD and POM we are a little undercooked. The only back to look decent was Earls. As for our possible OHs. The one thing ROG brought over the past few years was control and lack of mistakes. Look at Jackson last night - nothing spectacular but no mistakes...Keatley always makes a mistake and made too many today at times when we needed accuracy.....Rory_Gallagher wrote:He has added a lot of much needed momentum going forward though.ME-109 wrote:Hey Rory...now you see why Stander doesn't start.....Very stupid..

Christ!
I am in the US and despite trying REALLY hard could not find a place that was willing to put the match on (even though I found a couple of so-called rugby bars), so was reduced to watching the BBC website refresh.
Are the highlights worth watching?

The lineout creaking for Munster was pretty uncharacteristic. Seemed like some confusion over the calls at times.

Well done Edinburgh, well deserved. Enjoy the win.
Munster were poor. Talking about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Munster lucky to get the LBP.

Thought coughlan was poor today got a lot of the ball but didn't make any hard yards. Probably would have won the game if jj didn't try that silly chip kick. We were holding possession and territory and didn't need to go chasing the game like that. Hopefully he will learn from that. Keatley wAs very poor today

Wow, just got the result. Very pleasantly surprised, particularly by the words 'Edinburgh defended like lions' on the beeb summary.
Sounds like Laidlaw was epic. Hopefully now a 9 for ever more.

Laidlaw had a great game. made a few crucial turnovers and harassed around the scrum. Crisp passing, good kicking, - a top display

Like I said..no control and too many mistakes....
I wouldn't discard Coughlan yet. He proved his worth last weekend and this week he didn't have much support all round.

That was terrific from Edinburgh. Under serious pressure and defended very well. What an improvement.

So that wasn't a rubbish birthday present as it turned out! Munster fans were gracious in defeat, Scott played a blinder, 3 touches on the ball and the third touch he scored a try. Leonard had some Howlers but it was his pop passes early on that put Scott into space lead to our first try!
The Georgian played phenomenally and after writing him off I'd temporarily like to retract my derogatory opinions of him.
What a day.

Re: Edinburgh v Munster HC
Some interviews:
"We've been taking a lot of heat recently from people outside our camp," said the scrum-half, who kicked 19 points in a man-of-the match display.
"We played the same game plan as the first five games - we just did it with more accuracy and more control.
"People can write what they want about us. I've got a lot of belief in the players and the coaches."
Edinburgh are bottom of the Pro12 and were brushed aside by Munster in the league last month.
However, with Laidlaw in great form with the boot and excelling in defence, the hosts battled to a thrilling victory at Murrayfield.
"It's always important to start well in the Heineken Cup and winning your home games," added Laidlaw, who celebrated his 28th birthday by passing the 500-point tally for his club.
"It was a great performance. I thought the boys were outstanding.
"We trained well all week, so it's no surprise to me that we turned up and played well."
Edinburgh lost all of their pool matches last season, having reached the semi-finals with a memorable run during the previous campaign.
"That was a great run but this is a totally different team and I'm not even thinking about that," added Laidlaw.
"We'll keep our feet on the ground after this win.
"Of course, we want to get back there. But it's about refocusing and we have a tough game in Perpignan next week.
"If we lose that one, we'll be pretty much in a tough position."
Edinburgh head coach Alan Solomons only arrived one month before the season started and has been busy recruiting several new faces, including Cornell Du Preez, who enjoyed a great home debut.
"It's all been about building," said winger Tim Visser, who scored a fantastic second-half try, adding to Matt Scott's early touchdown.
"Now we're getting used to the system and we got it right today.
Edinburgh Rugby's Tim Visser slides in to score his side's second try of the game against Munster
Edinburgh's Tim Visser slides in to score his side's second try of the game
"We've been talking all week about how we had to bring physicality and I think we outmuscled them today.
"It's a big moment but this is just a start and we need to keep building."
Solomons was delighted to send most of the 7,000 crowd home happy but believes his side is still some way off being a competitive unit,
"We know we have got a long way to go," was his measured assessment. "We are under no illusions on that.
"But to me, it is important that we keep improving week by week. It was great for the guys that they got that result. It was a real boost to their confidence.
"Of course that will help them take their next step up. But what we have been saying is that we need to be performance focused - not result-focused.
"If we get our performances right, and we have been so close, we will be okay.
"When we go through the match review on a Monday, we have been saying to the guys you are so close you won't believe it.
"I'm a massive believer that the difference between success and failure is the finest line in the world. If you persevere, you will cross that line. We are a determined lot and we are most certainly going to persevere."

Re: Edinburgh v Munster HC
Spoke to a fairly duluded Munster fan in the urinals after the game who reckoned that the last try had 2 infringements to it. Didn't want to hang about discussing it as I'd finished me pee and he clearly hadn't.
Laidlaw's right when he says we didn't alter our game plan but just executed it better. He was good but the biggest gain was from Cuthbert who was genuinely good rather than awful and not having Atiga wasting a space on the pitch helped too.
I thought Scott was looking fat but he's just solid. Doesn't seem to have lost his ability to step back out of tackles though which is his main skill.
Felt like the Racing game of 2 years ago so here's hoping.
Slightly rambly so apologies nfor any clear cut nonsense.

Munster literally through that game away with poor decison making why they were going for a chip over the defence on the edge of their own 22 with less than 10 mins left with a 6 point lead
