Glasgow Sing alongs Empty Glasgow Sing alongs

Post by R!skysports Mon 21 Oct 2013, 2:00 pm

I am stealing this point from TJ - but a very valuable one, and think it needs a thread of its own

Glasgow needs some soul stirring songs to rattle the cages and bring fear to the opposition - or at least leave them humming it when they leave

It can be too quite and quite frankly I am fed up with the Welsh have the best songs, the Braves having drums and the footballers having the flares, and us not having a lot

Can we use the t'internet and 606v2 to start a ground swell with songs to get the heart racing, and our teams winning

(please not 500 miles!)

Chanted to a slow drumbeat

We are the warriors!
Mighty Glasgow warriors!
We are the warriors!
And we are going to win!

Use that as a chant / chorus

We have Niko
He spins around
We have Niko
He'll leave you on the ground

We have Big al
He's no ones friend
We have big Al
He'll get you in the end

This is literally one of the best posts I’ve seen on V2. Great work GC!

People of Glasgow – it is now your responsibility to ensure these chants resound around Scostoun on a regular basis!

A suggestion for when you’re playing Edinburgh:

“He’s big
A Saffa
His hair looks like a Lama
Dave Denton, Dave Denton!”

Surely when glasgow play Edinburgh the glasgow song should be

" Oh you pretty things (oh you pretty things)
Don't you know you're driving your
Fans and supporters insane
Oh you pretty things (oh you pretty things)
Don't you know you're driving your
Fans and supporters insane
Let me make it plain
You gotta make way for the homo superior"

with apologies to David Bowie

And to the tune of Ilkly Moor we could reply with

have you had a bath since we played thee?
Have you had a bath since we played thee?
Have you had a bath?
have you had a bath?
Have you had a bath since we BEAT thee?

In 1872 Cup matches, we're just snowblind with choice:

"2-4-6-8
Which fans here exfoliate?"

"He's crap,
He's wee
And he's not from Fiji,
He's Lee Jones,
He's Lee Jooooooooooooooones"

Tune: Lord of the Dance
"Viss-er, wherever you may be,
We will send you to the infirmer-y
Strauss will hunt you down,
Where e-ver you may be,
That's a bonus point done by half past three"

Ok ASBO

For the Warrior Nation to sing at the MFLs (all 5 of them) in the 1872 (home AND away)

More classically sourced to the tune of that Italian Opera by Verdi - jeez it was sung by Pavarotti - got it -from Verdi's Rigoletto "La Donna E Mobile"

De Luca is utter baws,
He is like a Santa Claus,
Giving away the ball,
He gives it to all
He's really bloody awful,
Enough of this waffle,
Heeeees crap and Denton is too

Afraid I have probably over indulged myself. To the tune of 'Hallelujah'

I have heard there is a Glasgow player,
Offside at rucks with Fijian flair,
But you don't really listen to referees now do you,
It goes like this,
The forth, the fifth,
The scrum put in and the line out lift,
The baffled opposition left chasing Matawalu

Matawalu, Matawalu
Matawalu, Matawalu

Our support was strong but we needed proof
We saw you fighting nail and tooth
His turn of pace was one that overthrew you
Now he has his pals over here
With surnames that the pundits fear
And on their lips they're cheering Matawalu

Matawalu, Matawalu
Matawalu, Matawalu

Baby we've been here before
Heineken cup, the 1st round exit door
We used to live in fear before we knew you.
But we've seen the step from your left foot-arch
Quarter finals we now hope in March
It's hard but there's belief in Matawalu

Matawalu, Matawalu
Matawalu, Matawalu

any song using the tune to "cannae shove yer granny aff the bus" I'm taking the credit for!

Also, we need to actually use the chants at games!

Also, can someone change the thread name to Glasgow and Edinburgh chants or make up a 2nd one kiss

Also, just for the giggles

Edinburgh chant (Queen - we are the champions)

We've lost our games
Time after time.
We've done our sentence
Our brand of defence is a crime.
And bad mistakes ‒
We've made a few.
We've had our share of murrayfield turf kicked in our face
But we've come through.

We are metrosexuals, my friend,
and we'll be metrosexual till the end,
We are Edin-bra, we are Edinbra....

In terms of getting an actual atmosphere, I really don't know what can be done. Even at Scotland games almost all the atmosphere is generated by the visiting fans.

They used to have drums at Firhill and for a while at Scotstoun, but fans complained to the club and to the "drummers" that they packed it in.

Don't think the Reserved Seating has helped the atmosphere. In the last couple of seasons, I thought the noise levels at Firhill were getting pretty good, especially considering the numbers were often ½ of what we are getting now. With the unreserved seats at Firhill, it seemed that those willing to get chants etc going, were congregating together and those willing to join in could move seats. Now with everyone far more spread out, it makes it harder to get chants/songs going.

Firhill itself seemed to generate more noise, maybe this is do with design or just everyone being more squashed up! But I feel at Scotstoun that the atmosphere somehow gets lost. From my seat in the Main Stand, I am rarely aware of any noise being made from the North stand, with the exception of the odd Kick at goal from their side, that they can clearly tell is going over before us.

With so many new fans coming to games, maybe it will just take some time to get things up and running noise wise at Scotstoun.

So IMO its up to the hard core fans to get some atmosphere going. the announcer on saturday was trying to gee up the crowd so the people in chage must know of the issues. Surely the supporters club can do something?

Free vuvuzela horn with every ticket for the Toulon replay? The Glaswegian version of the Edinburgh bandana. Wilko would love that when lining up his kicks.

The issue we have is that as a nation, we are fookin dull!

Folk need to come out of their shell to get these chants going!

Even offering bottles of buckie to all joining in at glasgow would not get the full result required!

Land of the purple heather,
Land of the minging weather,
Land where the Fijians gather,
Glasgow the brave

We've got some Kiwis,
And some Bokke,
We've got Big Mike,
The noggin knocker,
No longer Parks to have a shocker,
Glasgow the brave

Used to say in Toonie's day,
You could hear the donkeys bray,
But now the asses shown the most,
Are the 15 men on the eastern coast,

Scarier then Doctor Lector,
Post ten pints of amber nectar,
We've also got,
A Ruck Inspector,
Glasgow the brave

I could go on for a long time...

I wouldn’t say it was a Scotland specific problem – do Ulster fans sing much other than SUFTUM, do Munster fans sing much other than fields of Athenry? Do the Welsh clubs sing anything??

Rugby teams tend not to have many chants. If they do it’s usually one of them, and they just keep doing it!
