Glasgow Sing alongs - Page 2 Empty Glasgow Sing alongs

Post by R!skysports Mon 21 Oct 2013, 2:00 pm

First topic message reminder :

I am stealing this point from TJ - but a very valuable one, and think it needs a thread of its own

Glasgow needs some soul stirring songs to rattle the cages and bring fear to the opposition - or at least leave them humming it when they leave

It can be too quite and quite frankly I am fed up with the Welsh have the best songs, the Braves having drums and the footballers having the flares, and us not having a lot

Can we use the t'internet and 606v2 to start a ground swell with songs to get the heart racing, and our teams winning

(please not 500 miles!)

Also, we need to actually use the chants at games!

Also, can someone change the thread name to Glasgow and Edinburgh chants or make up a 2nd one kiss

Also, just for the giggles
"he's wee, and round,
his belly drags along the ground
RuggerRadge, RuggerRadge............"
I was just minding my own business and then the great unwashed drag me into their child like attempts at turning Scotstoun into a cathedral!

Rugby teams tend not to have many chants.  If they do it’s usually one of them, and they just keep doing it!
Get down to PYS and you can hear a few different songs, Sosban Fach, Yma O Hyd, Scarlet 'Til I Die (and a few in welsh that I must admit to not knowing).

The thing with any crowd singing/chanting is having a group of people who are willing to look like total jubblies signing alone, once others see/hear/laugh then they will join in.

We really need to bus in a group of 40 drunk rugby players and get them singing (acceptable) songs - everyone else will join in!

Scarlet 'til I die - was that not Ulster's originally?

If they can steal it, so can Glasgow!

Doesn't work at Edinburgh, there are about 20-30 folk who sing quite a few chants/songs, not all rugby players (current or former) granted, and they haven't really taken off.

Could be folk don't rate the chants/songs mind you.  Or given the size of murrayfield could be they're not loud enough.

Was just pointing out that we in general as a Rugby nation don't make much noise. You are right that most decents usually only have one song, but I have found, certainly in Irish, English and French club grounds there is a far better atmosphere created by the fans.

Yeah but their chants are generally pretty lame! Plus they are more chants than songs, which don't really work for a crowd of people...

I actually quite like the simple tune to “here we go here we go here we go” etc. but replacing it with “Edinbrah Edinbrah Edinbrah” – you could get the whole crowd singing that and clapping along.

in fact, did that not happen at the Toulouse Semi final? That was one of the best atmosphere’s I’ve been at – there were plenty songs and noise there!

99 bottles of beer on the wall
99 bottles of beer
Take one down and pass it around
and Mike Phillips will have drank the other 98 by then

See. I even made this one current!

Whisky

Heres another for the westies

To Country roads

All my Memories, gather round her
A weegies lady, a stranger to bathwater
Dark and dusty, the muckiest thing I've seen with my own eyes
Misty tastes of buckfast, and a diet that consists of only pies

All togther now

Take me home, cowcadens road...................

"Glasgow's black & blue
Soon you will be too..."

Nice & simple to chant to.
Reference to our colours / the way that Harley, Strauss & co will rough up the opposition.

Erm, tune wise I think calling it a tune might be over egging the pudding somewhat, but here's a similar chat performed by your local wendy ball players https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InSq7bxj-I8 (00:18 - 00:28) so you get the idea.
