I'll step in as a Chelsea fan. We generally feel ill feelings toward West Ham and Spurs the most. Arsenal has always been a a rival but from what I can tell from older fans and watching old matches it has only heated as we've gotten better in the last 25 years where as the other two have always been fierce hate.mystiroakey wrote:Compelling I wouldn't expect you to understand the fan politics of south east/east London clubs and you wouldn't get me talking to you about the manc scouse rivalries either.
The only west ham fans you will get that are rivals with the Millwall ones are not even footy fans.. There are 100% hooligan/firm orientated and only represent a small percentage of fans..
And in regards to Chelsea-I could argue that that is way more ridiculous based on the respective teams qualities.
but Chelsea also have a firm dont they. so maybe the fans you talked to are at the lower scale of the 'football' fan
That or you get all your info from films like the football factory and green street!
Fulham and QPR hate us but they're seen as our little scrappy brothers and that angers them more. Especially QPR.
Personally the biggest rival for me is Spurs then Arsenal and West Ham (when in the Prem no matter the quality of squad it's always a tasty game) equal.
I'd say West Ham are above Liverpool and United in the rivalry ladder.
Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
Dolphin to me in my generation west ham(over Brighton) is much more relevant as both teams were yo yo clubs, both teams played each other. and due to being local- we had great atmospheres at games..
the generation before mine wasn't really about the football when it came to rivalries- but palace were allways out of that anyway and had no firm to speak off.
The whole chelsea, Tottenham, Millwall west ham thing wasn't about football anyway. And hopefully these xenophobic firm based 'rivalries' will become a thing of the past.
Anyway as the Scottish will tell you it doesn't really matter what the other team thinks, its about what there set of fans think.
To England , Scotland are not a rivalry. But to Scotland we couldn't be bigger.

I agree wholeheartedly that its not on standing, but obviously the more you have to play a team, or maybe the less you get to play another, that affects things.
I would say Palace would hate us more than Brighton, we hold more relevance until very recently. But, and not bigging us up, it's Millwall Spuds and Chelsea for us. General hate for Arsenal and some older Man united fans still hate us for how hard we tried the day Blackburn won the league cos United couldnt beat us.
I can't wait to start travelling away. Took over 2000 to Burnley, file the stand, for a league cup game with a weakened side two days after the Swansea trip. Heroes

Speaking of West Ham, the Villa boys roll into town tomorrow.
Was there last season, were u there Dolphin?
The hottest day i can remember, wasn't much fun trying to get a beer. Nightmare.
Have a feeling tomorrow will be the same, hate to say.
Hammers winning it by the odd goal.
Although we do play better away from home.
Looking forward to the welsh derby to.

They're just big games with big outcomes. Not as intense as playing Spurs and West Ham though. I like to beat the teams you mentioned but there's an electricity about games with Spurs and West Ham.mystiroakey wrote:Nick I have a feeling you and the majority off chelsea fans today dont care about those rivalries though and care more about the big games( be it citeh , arsernal, united, bayern, barca!!)CFCNick wrote:I'll step in as a Chelsea fan. I cant remember if I was, I think I let my mother go like I usually do for first game of the season. It was a dull, dull game I remember that.westisbest wrote:Speaking of West Ham, the Villa boys roll into town tomorrow.

I think its a game we'd win with Carroll and a game we'll lose tomorrow. No striker, no pace in midfield. Downing will be key

Chelsea game tomorrow for us, will probably end in a defeat. Hopefully the boys can put the same effort, passion & commitment into the performance as they have done recently. Remy or Cabaye are going to have to do something special to get anything out of this one.

Secondly, my argument is valid. You have been a stain on the bottom of their shoe for many years, even when they havent been impressive themselves. Most people fight upwards in rivalries too, its from aspiration to succeed and hatred of someone you dislike doing so more than yourselves.
You are clinging to a rivalry that most feel is engineered based on people remembering it once meant something. Something you will never have been a part of. Whilst Brighton fans stewed on it in their tiny stadium, feeling the world was unjust and they should be flying where that dirty Palace were, Palace didnt give two hoots what Brighton were doing. Its like when you see a school bully at a reunion 20 years later "Oi, Billy, I think you should apologise for when you put blu-tack in my hair, you pig!" "What? Did I? Oh, sorry about that".
I dont know if they do hate us, frankly it wasnt something I was aware of till Mysti mentioned it, but I could understand why to some extent. Id have assumed they had taken a rivalry up with Millwall and Charlton more, but I dont keep up. The way you talk about Palace is very contrived though. Even in your two best years you do realise that a Palace side riddled with problems and not one that would usually have been of note to many fans could still top your achievements and get promoted?

Possibly Clark to fill in at lb.
Also Gabby is a doubt.

I do agree with the sentiment that as Brighton have become more relevant, more fans have flocked to them and look for a rivalry, hence bigging up their palace rivalry. I don't think it's that big at all really

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, talking to BT Sport: "I didn't like it. I think we deserved to lose. We had a couple of good chances to score the equaliser but they were in the game more than us, they fought more than us and they were much more committed than us. They were the best team on the pitch, if someone had to win, I think it was Newcastle not us.
"The game was quite easy to play in the first half but we were not sharp, we were not intense with the ball. So we let the game go, waiting for a chance to score a goal or a chance to concede and lose it and that is exactly what I was telling the players at half-time."
