Tomic down a set, with a DF on BP, gifts a break to Lopez.
(Lack of application from a youngster. )
PS: Three breaks in a row.

Interesting Nadal is scheduled to face JJ in the last 16 given JJ has final points to defend.

O believe me LF I was being gentle... dipping toes into the water does not include calling Verdasco a clown.. and his facts were not right any way. But thanks for the homily LF

Well said H-n
Regardless of actual results, I always hate to see abusive - and dare I say childish - monikers being applied (not least on what, one hopes, is a forum for genuine lovers of the sport) to world-class tennis players who self-evidently possess talent in abundance.

Whats with silly black-nets around the court? Watching the Live transmission hurts your eyes from that black net and looks like all squares and lines over TV screen. Disaster.
While we're at name calling players, any derogatory name calling I do for Djoko, has been allowed by the Queen, so I'm exempt

Needs to fill in a bit with muscle, work on foot speed. Choose between a topspin FH and flat FH judiciously. Aggressive with good net play. Nice serve, which can become lethal with practice towards accuracy.falzy21 wrote:This Herberts giving the ol Djoker a bit of a game , gorgeous serve, bit like ancic.
Clay may suit his game a bit more because of a higher bounce. I like the use of a SHBH or DHBH as needed (a la Tsonga). Look forward to seeing a bit more him in the future.

This guy has been around for a few years in the atp futures tour where its tough to survive. A bit like Paire he's not a product of the french federation so has been travelling around europe in his dad's volvo (who is also his coach) sometimes even camping. The 17k€ he earned in bercy is quite sigificant for a 55k€ a year budget!

Gosh, you don't often get a last 16 line up like this. I envy those with tickets today. Wonder, though, with London imminent, will those already qualified ease up a little, although I doubt Rafa, for one, will do so.Born Slippy wrote:Great line up today. Hopefully some cracking matches.
Most will be delighted that Fed has finally clinched his place. Would have been a bit weird without him next week. I thought at the beginning of 2013 that he might struggle to get into the top four but would comfortably be in the top eight. As it is, it's been a real struggle. Possibly, if he'd already qualified some weeks ago he would have been having treatment/rest for his ailments. Instead, he's had to soldier on.
Possible tip to win in London next week? Del Po. Probable winner, though - Djoko.

Re: Paris Masters - Day 6 (Updated) - Mens Singles
Incidentally, the Youzhny win last week meant there have been 16 tournaments won by the 30-somethings this year, surpassing the figure of 13 for 2012. And that's with Fed only winning one and Ferrer not doing as well as last year
Anyone know what the record is? Also, I wonder if there have ever been so many DIFFERENT 30+ winners in one year.

Re: Paris Masters - Day 6 (Updated) - Mens Singles
Thanks very much. Connors played until he was about 79 (just seemed he was as old as that) so he may have swelled some of the 30+ seasons. Laver was still winning stuff in the early 70s and you had all the old pros coming back into the main stream such as Gimeno, Pancho, Hoad etc.laverfan wrote:I will research. Can see the 30+ seasons going on, as some of the guys who've won tourneys this year will still be around for a while. Just wonder if Djoko, Nadal and Murray will be prolific 30-something champions. Praps not.

I suspect not. I think Rafa's knees and Andy's back will probably limit them in later years.sirfredperry wrote:Just wonder if Djoko, Nadal and Murray will be prolific 30-something champions. Praps not.
Novak may be the most resilient but if he loses his flexibility (or something goes 'ping'!) his game will lose a lot too.
Then again, I'm not seeing a lot coming up behind them, so who knows?!

Djokovic v Isner - 0/7 BPs converted by Djokovic in the first set. Isner is 0/0, but still won the set.

Djokovic's BP conversion this year has been terrible.laverfan wrote:Djokovic v Isner - 0/7 BPs converted by Djokovic in the first set. Isner is 0/0, but still won the set.

It's gut-check time... Dont know if backing Nolea during gut-check time represents a good investment anymore. Plus he isn't in China, where the Energy or room temperature water or whatever he said makes him at peace there apparently doesn't reside anywhere else. I'm backing Isner.

Well, Djoko goes thru in the end. Interesting how a lot of the top players are dropping sets but still winning. End of season tiredness, praps. I see del Po (who seems to make a habit of losing the middle set but still coming out on top) has this time dropped the opening set but is now into a third.
