I dont think it will be too big a hindrance to United in one season, but not hitting Champions league for about three years would be.
It was never going to be easy. Clubs of all sizes struggle when they replace legends

Like I said moyes made all his mistakes in the summer and now it is coming home to roost.
Crap transfer dealings, firing half of the coaching staff for novices etc etc
If Rooney wasn't angling for a move we would be fighting off relegation.

Cl is a must, he should be replaced if it is looking in threat.
We must keep the appeal of cl, Rooney will definitely leave if we miss out on cl.
Ludicrous to suggest we don't need it.

Yeah, maybe not after one year but sides are improving around them. No champs lge on offer, players won't come. Rooney would be off in a heartbeat. Dangerous direction to head in for united, moyes won't be given as much time as people think, not if things start spiralling. Ninth....that is worrying on all levels.

If United finish 5th they can probably justify the evolution away from Ferguson. They'll spend BIG money, they will spend on players who wont move just for Champions League like they usually do, but some younger players.Ent wrote:Cl is a must, he should be replaced if it is looking in threat.

But maybe two years and its a big worry. The players will lose faith, but I would be more concerned with the commercial problems. Cos thats not just a dent on money United can earn, but a market for City, Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool to overtake them in.
It'l be fine, if he royally tards it up they will be able to get a manager in with credibility who would probably embrace the challenge.

And now hughton has come out and blamed it on individual errors. No Chris, you're clueless mate, throwing your players under the bus ain't gonna help. I hope we lose Saturday so he gets the sack, its gotten to that point for me

I'd never have hired him, have to say this is worse than I expected us to be doing.
We already spend big money on young players - huge amounts and that had gotten us no where with only de gea a nailed on first 11 starter and he was already playing for a big side.
Cl is a must, we've struggled to attract players recently with cl football. Missing out would be a disaster.

This Sunderland team looks the opposite to how Gus set us out. Gus had a superb defenisve record with us, best in the Championship without question, but going forward was always a huge problem. Quite the opposite now.
Edin Hazzard 2 superb goals, what a player.
That Sunderland own goal was beyond stupid. No danger what so ever, may have just missed out on being one on those christmas comedy football DVD's.

big question for me is what type of players moyes will bring in, his only one so far has hardly set the world alight and was a big question mark over him as its a part he has never done. cant see us attracting many contential superstars under moyes
dont actually think we played that badly tonight, alreday heard people slagging off fellaini who i thought had a decent game, much much better than giggs who had a shocker (we wont hear anything about that though) we didnt take our chances and got sucker punched

If united dont finish in the top 4 theyre screwed
Major player investment is needed and they need the lure of the champions league to attract those quality of players. How ferguson got a title winning team out of this shower goes to show how good he was. Now with a new manager if we continue with crap like valencia welbeck fellaini young cleverley nani etc then we're fooked

United played superb in the first half, but just couldn't stick the ball in the back of the net.
2nd half more of the same. United just not taking there chances.
Everton landed the sucker punch in the 2nd half.
Simply, happens in football all the time.

Everton fans were signing "you'll be sacked in the morning", pretty cruel but pretty funny. I think Everton play better with Martinez. I don't understand how Fellaini looks like the second Ya ya at Everton, a lot of people were saying he was better than Toure (not me). The United midfield looks absolutely terrible. Why is Ryan Giggs still playing?Crimey wrote:If AVB is under pressure, surely Moyes has to be as well? Similar positions in the league.

Luis Suarez is the best player in this league without question. That first goal was just incredible, his 2nd goal was fantastic, his 3rd goal brilliant. His 4th goal im running out of words! Amazing player all 4 goals were just brilliant.
Can't really fault Norwich, Suarez was just unplayable tonight.
No disrespect to Norwich, Liverpool just simply looked a class above them tonight. That said good to see one month loan legend Bradly Johnson score for them!!! Great header aswell!

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
I disagree, for long stretches everton created the better chances and possession. United did threaten and maybe a draw was a fair result but I think United's midfield was totally outplayed. Plus hats off to Tim Howard, Distin, Jagielka, Oveido, etc. all of Everton's back line was fantastic today. Everton did a lot of the attacking as well and they deserved the win, maybe 1-1 or 2-2 would have been a fairer result. Are United now out of the championship race, 12 points back? It looks like 4th is what they will be fighting for.NickisBHAFC wrote:United played superb in the first half, but just couldn't stick the ball in the back of the net.

Arsenal played great should have scored two or three more. Ramsey created a beautiful goal for Ozil. Arsenal now has given up one goal in the last 540 minutes of competitive play.

Where the hell were all the West Brom fans tonight? Poor support.
Great game of football though. With City's away form and West Brom's record against the big teams, i fancied a baggies win. But i was wrong ... just. West Brom continue to impress, under one of the best managers in the league Steve Clark.

yes what made this defensive effort so nice was that both are starting fullbacks were out and Monreal and Jenkinson played great, Jenkinson made the first goal with a beautiful run and cross into the box. They have the best defense in the league right now 14 games into the season, but you won't here the pundits put Kos or Mertesacker in any list for the best defenders in the league.mystiroakey wrote:Remeber the shouts at the start of the season for arsernal needing defensive options..socal1976 wrote:Arsenal played great should have scored two or three more. I actually had a big debate on here at the start of the season that I believed Arsenal's defence was as good as any other top team and I was laughed at, happy to see I was right (because I support Arsenal) and Arsenal look so solid at the back.socal1976 wrote:yes what made this defensive effort so nice was that both are starting fullbacks were out and Monreal and Jenkinson played great, Jenkinson made the first goal with a beautiful run and cross into the box. Should just go back to basics and pick out best 11 players in their natural positions, get some continuity in the team.
E.g. Jones, pick a position for him and play him there every week. Stop messing about.

Yes they just are not giving up the soft goal on the set pieces and every time one the fullbacks gets caught up the field it seems flamini is there on that side ready to shut them out. They really played great from the end of last season and the addition of the Sleeveless one and a rejuvented Scz has them looking even stronger.Champagne_Socialist wrote:I actually had a big debate on here at the start of the season that I believed Arsenal's defence was as good as any other top team and I was laughed at, happy to see I was right (because I support Arsenal) and Arsenal look so solid at the back.socal1976 wrote:yes what made this defensive effort so nice was that both are starting fullbacks were out and Monreal and Jenkinson played great, Jenkinson made the first goal with a beautiful run and cross into the box. But great win none the less.
Was bricking it when they put up 5 minutes injury time.
Last time I was at this fixture, we won 3-2 aswell and Saints went down,(they wont this season).
Good atmosphere.
Made me laugh, saints fans singing to us, 'you only sing when you're winning'.
At 3-2, we sang back 'we only sing when we're winning'.
Great 3 points, thats 5 unbeaten for us, hoping to make it 6 at the Cottage sunday.
Up The Villa.

Thats the first time me & my brother have been to a Villa match and seen us win in the league since we beat Norwich in October 2011.
Between us since then we must have been to about 10 matches and failed to win.
Picked a good one last night.

Moyes saying we can still win the league this morning, I guess he has to say that but we are as close to 19th as we are to first.
Infuriating as man for man we have as good a defence as anyone in the league.
Only city can rival our pool of strikers.
Midfield is a huge problem but carrick and another should be good enough versus most teams.
The team isn't good enough to win trophies but should comfortably be in the cl positions. Underperforming to a man with the exception of Rooney and de gea.

I think you have to realise that Everton are a very good side this season. we have all noticed it. Man u have not been half as good in the league as they normally are.
Man u actually outplayed Everton- but Everton's resilience and belief won them the game.
It was not a shock and man u are still much better than there were at the start of the season
Perspective lads. Many of us would have called an everton win or draw

IMHO Moyes was always going to have his work cut out. Man U may have been seconds away from winning the Premiership three times in a row (2011-13) but even their most ardent fans might agree that there were not vintage sides.
The 2011-13 teams were very stong defensively and amazingly good at taking their chances. What's been happening this season is that this knack, or their luck, has ended/run out.
Also, has their auro gone with no SAF prowling the touchline ? In all sports, competitors sense when there is blood in the water and move in for the kill

How many times did Liverpool hit the bar/post last season...between 30-40 times?. Those chances go in and it's a whole different ball game re our final league position but all we got was "LFC are sh*t and could hit a cow's ar5e with a banjo". Don't see why Utd should be considered "unlucky" given the same set of circumstances.

We used to be all about the last minute winners, now we seem to consistently be on the wrong end of it.
Southampton & Cardiff have pulled draws out the bag and now Everton have taken the win - all with goals in the last few minutes of the game.

It just seems like you always get last minute winners, when in reality over a course of a season there aren't that many.
You also usually get them by putting pressure on and constantly attacking. We don't do this anymore.
You develop an aura by your on pitch play, not by who's standing at the side of the pitch during the game.
Question this, what was evertons left back doing unmarked in our box with 5 minutes to go?
Everton are decent and a draw would have been an acceptable result however moyes early season play and strategy left him needing a win, he tried to go attacking with Valencia at rb and paid the price for him not being able to defend at all.

Yeah, tbh, it fits my view that there's a tier 2 which includes United, Pool, Everton, Spurs and maybe Soton.Ent wrote:Everton are decent and a draw would have been an acceptable result however moyes early season play and strategy left him needing a win, he tried to go attacking with Valencia at rb and paid the price for him not being able to defend at all.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread
European football chief Michel Platini has called for yellow cards to be replaced by a sin-bin.
"I would make it like rugby, punishing the offender with 10 or 15 minutes out of the game," he said in an interview with Spanish sports daily newspaper AS.
"It is an idea. Now it needs to mature and see if it really is good for the game. It is a proposal to be explored."
Uefa president Platini also backed the idea of allowing national cup champions to take part in the Champions League.
Under the existing system, a player who is shown a straight red card or two yellow cards in the same game is immediately sent off and cannot be replaced.
In addition, a player who accumulates a certain number of yellow cards over several matches can be suspended for future games in the same tournament.
Platini believes a sin-bin would be a fairer punishment and added: "That way, the benefit goes to the team he is playing against, in the same match, instead of a sanction by cards which is carried out against a third team, the next on the calendar."

Would completely change the game and the way it is officiated
Maybe sin binning for being carded for specific offences e.g. Dissent, diving would be more feasible.
But then a fouls a foul in my book.
