They've announced it won't be played any time soon due to the forecast for the next few days.
Suddenly they've decided to look at forecasts!

Desperately poor PR - just what we have come to expect from the SRU bell-ends.

It's the fact they clearly didn't learn their lessons from the Treviso game.
On that point, how's it taken so long to announce when that game will be?

Is/was moving the game to Firhill an option ? Maybe the Jags are still in the huff about us abandoning them !

Chat now seems to be moving the game to a hk knockout weekend.
It's depressing that there's two hk games left to go and we know Glasgow definititely won't be there, and Edinburgh are very unlikely to be there.

Can the clubs choose when to re-play? Surely it makes more sense for everyone (including Treviso) to do it during a HC week rather than a full international week?

Re: 1872 Cup Thread 2014: Glasgow vs Edinburgh
Was lucky enough to be a guest at the hospitality last night and got speaking to some of the Warriors management. They are looking at April for the re-arranged fixture but there is no date yet. Initially they were trying to get it sorted for this weekend but I was told the referee and linesmen couldn't oblige due to other commitments and the weather forecast was terrible for the next few days too. The park really was unplayable though it was even worse than the Treviso game.

Re: 1872 Cup Thread 2014: Glasgow vs Edinburgh
As this game is now considered a sort of unofficial Scotland trial then playing it after the 6N has finished isn't really of much help, particularly for the likes of Tonks who could have put himself firmly in Johnson's thinking if he had played well again at 10. Seems ridiculous that the game couldn't be put on at some point this week as the weather now seems to have relented, it's not as if we are talking about travel arrangement problems for the likes of Treviso, just get the Edinburgh players on the team bus and get to Glasgow.

Look at the weather forecast - it is hoying it down here at present and worse to come later tonight and tomorrow ! I am just back from a foolhardy wee 10k around the Kelvin walkway and am bloody soaked through the various layers of lycra. Admittedly it was quite nice to begin with.

Wouldn't go that far, but pretty good for the time of year. Bit chilly if you're in the wind, otherwise fine.

Weather is as bad as it gets here. 22 degrees centigrade and 53% humidity. The kind of weather that depresses the locals.TJ wrote:Its been a beautiful day in Edinburgh.
They should have played the game out here. Quins and Wasps played a league game out here a few years ago and it was cracking. Sorted. There's even plenty of parking for FES, although he would have to fight for sedan chair space outside the Emirates Palace Hotel.

A 1872 derby in the UAE - now that would be worth going to! Not sure Ben Atiga would handle the heat though. He's a sweaty man at the best of times.

Great stuff Schitz - that's one of my favourite training routes, down to the Riverside Museum (very highly recommended for anyone who hasn't been) and then along up the Clyde to the city centre. I look a bit of a tw@t traipsing along the Broomielaw with my walking poles though...21st Century Schizoid Man wrote:I am just back from a foolhardy wee 10k around the Kelvin walkway and am bloody soaked through the various layers of lycra. Alan Solomons is so old that he remembers when they used to mark the scoreboard with Roman numerals.

The Warriors don't have a game until Exeter. Does this mean we have to indulge in nonsensical banter for the next week in the absence of real rugby?

However, I was once playing in a Vets tournament and after outpacing the opposition tighthead, sad that I'm still proud of that, heard him ask the ref if he had checked my birth certificate.
Came the reply, "Yes, I've seen it. It's written on parchment."

I had a birthday at Christmas. All very depressing. I'm getting to that age where hopes of a professional sporting career are moving from theoretically possible to impossible.

That's quite a Glasgow team when only 5 of the starting team are actually from a Glasgow club!

It would be terribly Scottish of us to end up somehow beating Glasgow next week.
Shame we're half South African.
Please go easy on us over the next week, our western brethren.

RDW, I'm afraid going to have to post a big fat negatory on that request, but for one big, inescapable reason: necessity.RDW_Scotland wrote:It would be terribly Scottish of us to end up somehow beating Glasgow next week.

If necessity is the mother of invention, it's also the mother of putting some hurt on our Eastern brethren, and it's a mighty hurting that's in store.
We need bonus points, and Edinburgh are just waiting to give us one. A bonus point, that is.

Glasgow need a bonus point win to keep up the push for second place and a home semi. Edinburgh should take it easy and allow Glasgow the win for the sake of something positive in Scottish rugby.
However, this is Scottish rugby we're talking about so it wouldn't surprise me that Edinburgh win next week.

If there is one thing about this fixture, either in Edinburgh or Glasgow, is they are always really close. Last season (Scotstoun) we should have whipped the erse off the MFLs but let them off the hook. Playing at the Library quagmire on Boxing Day was tough on both sides and we just edged it thanks to CC ( how many times has he rescued us over the years - I can think of rather a lot).

Re: 1872 Cup Thread 2014: Glasgow vs Edinburgh
So here's the known known; if the mighty Weege play as they did against Ulster and the flaccid MFL are as limp and lacking in penetration as they were at Zebre then it's 5 pts to Glasgow and a right showing up to the Exfoliators.
Known unknown; are the MFL going through the motions? Will they turn up on Saturday seeing it as a one off match which could redeem some self respect to keep them warm over the summer? (God knows you need something to keep you warm in an Edinburgh summer).
Unknown unknowns; Toonie's random number generator/ inspired selections. I have a feeling that over the next three games players will be rested and/or tried out before the play offs. A back row of Harley-Jedi-Holmes would not surprise me one bit. Or a Jones-Hogg Isles back three. Also, do the Edinbokkie see the Annual Slaughter of the Effeminates in the same way as Kellock and co? Or has Roddy Grant been showing Du Preez videos of himself and John Barclay at Firhill? "See big man, once you get right inside his back pocket and pull the flap down, reach out and fasten the button. It's really snug in there and you get a great view of the game."
It looks such an obvious five pointer for the Warriors that I'm tempted to put a fiver on the MFL.

Er, this is an Edinburgh side which has beaten Leinster and the Hairsprays this season already and with Visser back, you'd have to be madder than a Fifer's dog to assume that Edinburgh couldn't win this. If they have a hallmark this season, it's inconsistency. They can be excellent and have nothing to lose.
No way I'm counting those chooks yet.

Re: 1872 Cup Thread 2014: Glasgow vs Edinburgh
Anything is possible, although Glasgow will need to play really badly, worse than at any point this season, and Edinburgh will need to reach their best performance for months. Form is completely against Edinburgh, and even Du Preez is starting to show signs of fatigue. Glasgow will win, it's more a question of whether the soap dodgers can stop choking on the 4 try bonus point. Given our defence against Zebre and Cardiff, you ought to have that down up by half time.

Re: 1872 Cup Thread 2014: Glasgow vs Edinburgh
fES - we have had some honkers too - Cardiff in the HC, Dragons home and away. Difference is we play as a team not a bunch of individuals who are reasonable at rugby but look like they have just met each other. The body language of the MFLs yesterday was atrocious pre-match. They stood around looking like they were waiting for the bar to open !
