Revis will apparently be released if we can't trade him.

Ultimately 16m is just too much for any CB. Oakland might pony up with its 60m cap space mind

There are Bucs fans who wonder why they're seen as a joke nationally. This is why. It would be a ridiculous move, was hoping it would be a smoke screen but seems not. Just terrible, terrible.

If he is on the Roster by Wednesday evening 4th Round pick due to the Jet becomes a 3rd Rounder, so I would expect him to be gone by then.
As GSC says the $16m cap hit for a DB was just too much and the fact that the Bucs can't find a trade partner with anyone else in the league proves that.

For me, Revis is a cut above the rest of the FA CB's out there, sure his salary is a big hit but he's a once in a generation type player. He was still amazing despite only being like 75-80% last year

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
That's exactly why he's worth the salary for us, in my opinion. I'll be gutted if he's released. To just cut a player that you gave up a 1st round pick for is beyond stupid.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
It wouldn't surprise me if Revis has said he's not looking to play in a Tampa 2 system, and that's motivating the trade.
Equally though, $16m a year for a guy that isn't a perfect system fit may be too much for a team with other areas to build too.

Different regime ultimately. That first means nothing to Lovie and co like Richardson in Cleveland

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
Just goes to prove again that when talking contract numbers, its really only guranteed money that is worth taking any real notice of.
Also worth rememebring the next time we are all moaning about a player holding out.
That said in this situation Revis is still going to do rather well. I am sure the massive signing bonus he will pick up elsewhere will soften the blow somewhat.

In news that isn't Revis, Andre Roberts is gonna sign in Washington.
Like that, he's a good WR, slightly surprised Arizona letting him go

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
I read something this morning, think it was on Prootballtalk (I know), that said that Revis' contract was structured in a way that allowed Tampa Bay to reduce his cap hit this year to $6m by converting a chunk of it to a bonus. If true then it suggests that this isn't really about money. Either Revis doesn't want to be there anymore or Tampa just don't want to pay him. I'd imagine it's probably the first one and the Bucs just don't want to start a new regime with a high profile distraction on board.

Buccaneers have apparently signed Michael Johnson to a 5 year deal, $43.75m with $24m guaranteed.

Michael Johnson gets almost as much guaranteed as Bennett in total. Big price tag for a good but not great player

Bennett took a discount deal to stay in Seattle, Johnson was pretty much the only good young pass rusher to actually hit the market. Was hardly going to take less than Griffen.GSC wrote:Michael Johnson gets almost as much guaranteed as Bennett in total. Big price tag for a good but not great player

And being utilised incorrectly. I really don't want him to go to New England.

Revis fits in every single system. The problem is, if you don't fit your whole defense around him, you're not going to get the most out of him. Match him up man to man with the oppositions best receiver and roll coverage to the other side of the field and you'll get the best CB in the history of the game.
Rex knows what he's doing with Revis. Please come back, Darrelle.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
I don't see the Browns as players for Revis, when you factor in Hadens new extension, that's a lot to invest in 1 position.
He'd have to take a hefty paycut to come here I suspect.
A return to New York seems unlikely given the nature of his exit, and Woodys involvement in it.
Oakland seems most likely at this point, not exactly a secret Revis loves getting paid

Has Dan Snyder just won the 49ers be GM for the day competition?
I reckon we could pick up a long snapper who would be more useful with a 6th round pick
