Interestingly enough, if Edinburgh (or Connacht) overtake the Scarlets it will mean only 1 Welsh region in the new European cup. Likewise if Connacht to make it to 6th all the Irish regions will be there.

Its a double re-signing, accorrding to twitter.
Wilson and Harley are out of contract in the Summer, probably the last of the key players that have to re-sign. Unless they have had a made a real u turn on Jackson. With Wilson they are maybe waiting to see the outcome of his off field problems.
Others out of contract in the Summer (not included loans). I would think a large number of these guys will leave.

Holmes has been very good when he's played - can we really afford to lose a good flank forward like that?

Yeah i like a lot of what i have seen of Holmes, very abrasive for an openside (which is why on an heavy pitch i would have him ahead of Fusaro) and he is the ginger tackle monster n°2.

I can't see Jedi going anywhere. I rather see him as staying on until he joins the backroom staff in a coaching capacity. I have absolutely no objective evidence for this , it's just that he looks as if he belongs in the set up.
Gillies and Wight are probably clearing out their lockers as we speak. Which must be disappointing for them as they both looked, at one point , as if they were about to step up and claim a first team spot.
With Moray Low leaving and Coo still missing can we really say goodbye to Jerry and Ed Kalman?
Holmes and McGuigan could be down to budgets, but Holmes has looked a good player.
Do we need to start a Harley Must Stay campaign?

Blow for Edinburgh that. The severity of the blow will depend on whether they put Cuthbert or Beard on the wing or choose an actual winger like Jamie farndale or Damien hoyland.

Agree RDW - hopefully Solomons will turn to one of the young wingers, but I suspect it's more likely Bezzy will move to 15, Leonard to 10 and Cuthbert on the wing. Not ideal, although happy for Leonard to be playing 10 with Hart and Scott along side him.

Not heard anything more. First part of what I was told has turned out to be true and Jackson is being booted, will see if the SQ 10 happens.

Perhaps another on his way to Bristol? Another option for Jackson could be Newcastle, replacing World Class Phil.

I'd like all of our departing Scotland players to play for a top 6 AP or Top 14 team but I know that isn't overly realistic - the likes of Gloucester, Sale, LI, Newcastle etc. are the likely markets that will be looking for them.

Well Dean Ryan has really proved his credentials at Worcester as a top coach. I'm almost surprised the SRU haven't asked him back with that track record he has.

for some getting regular games for a lower team might be better than sitting on the bench for a top team????

I'd much rather Hoyland, by all accounts Farndale has been slightly scared of contact since his injury. Gun shy if you like. I haven't seen Walker play this year, so I can't really comment.

More likely that Horne is fit enough to go onto the bench. Our other American who we signed till the end of the season is away with the American XVs team this weekend. What an utterly pointless signing he was.
Could Lee Jones be the first player to be loaned back to the team that he is on loan from?

I would hate for Glasgow to miss out on a playoff place through lending players out to the 7s etc, hopefully won't be the case.

I don't see it being a big issue to be honest. Jones and Eddie were unlikely to feature this weekend and it looks like Bennett wasn't either.
Appearing in the Hong Kong 7s makes Bennett eligible for the Commonwealth games and the Hong Kong leg is crucial for Scotland 7s as we are in the same group as the USA and finishing above them this week will go along way to securing the 7s core status for next year.

Given how far 7s has come though it is very difficult for players just to rock up and be up to speed.
Fair enough Lee Jones who has spent a lot of time with the 7s this season, but Bennet hasn't.

You do need to wonder about the logic of this!
And Carlin Isles is only signed for the rest of this season and seems unlikely to play any part in it???
No wonder the SRU is skint! Buying players you're never going to use!

True, but given how poor our 7s have been the past two years, maybe the jump is not as big. Maybe with Eddie and Bennett they are trying to increase the player pool available for the Commonwealth games. As to be elgible for the Games, I think you have to have played in at least two World Series events. We might see a few more play in the UK legs, depending on how the Pro teams are getting on.
Though for Bennett was to play 7s at Glasgow 14, it would probably rule him out the Scotland summer tour.

Yes, its Niua who is signed till the end of the season and who despite us missing around 7 or 8 backs, could only manage a late replacement apperance for us during the 6 Nations. He is currently away with USA as they are playing in a World Cup qualifying ties.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread II
Surprising given the lack of depth, especially Bennett. Also it's not like they're playing XVs.
Although we can field Murchie, Seymour, Matawalu, Hughes, Maitland; Dunbar, Horne, Vernon, Lamont; (C:FH) Russell, Jackson, Horne; Prygos, Cusiter.
Looking at this, could it be that it's preferred to have them playing some still physically tough rugby but having "less chance" of being injured in 7s?

On a side note, given Vernon's had a fair few games, what do people think of him? A success? Good enough for the international stage on the summer tour or just a good club player, at least for now?
I think he's showing good signs but he's behind Horne, Dunbar, Scott, Taylor and Fife in the centre IMO.

Laidlaw is getting rested for 5 weeks, in preperation for the summer tour and his move after the summer.

What is strange is that Solomons says he will still play for Edinburgh before the end of the season.

I am not against beefing up the sevens squad a bit. It is a home commonwealth games at the end of the day and we need to be competitive. I have got tickets for the Saturday and don't want to be embarrassed. It will be quite an occasion for the players, playing in front of a full Ibrox, I believe it is sold out. You hope they will rise to the occasion.
With Horne coming back to fitness now and Vernon developing nicely in the new position we have got enough depth to cover it. Vernon has actually surprised me and looks as if he may well make a go of it. He had some really good touches against the scarlets. I would not rule out a cap at this stage.

They will give him a run out a the end to get the chance to say cheerio, that would be fair enough, he has been a good servant to the club.
Again this is actually a good move, he has looked burnt out recently and hopefully it will revive him. It gives Hart, Kennedy and S H-C the chance to put down their markers going forward. They won't be quite so green at the beginning of next season now.

Please though, don't rush Horne back too soon! The eejit doctors meant his injury was made worse. Don't now make things worse by not letting him fully recover!
