"This game reminds me of an interprovincial match just before the HC.Leinster never used any of their moves just went through the phases so they gave the opposition nothing to analyse for the next week.I think we're doing the same today."
That would be (1)mighty disrespectful of Scotland, and (2) this match IS a competitive game...so it seems unlikely to me.

I posted the same thing in the Wales Italy thread, it looked like Wales were not using any of set moves.

Yeah sorry if it sounds that way but the interpros were competitve matches too.I'd say if we were struggling to get the win you'd see some moves but we haven't needed to.

I would understand it more in the Italy Wales game. But given how closely matched these two sides were for the first 39 minutes...I don't think so.

Has the 2nd half improved?
I gave up after the first half to do some work on the computer.

21-6 with just under ten minutes to go.
...and as I typed that, Chilli gets over the whitewash. Nicely set up by Chris Henry.

Re: Ireland vs Scotland
Not only have Ireland won, they now have a, I think, healthy points difference. This may be important for them at the end of the tournament, IMO.

Re: Ireland vs Scotland
Ireland picking up more of a canter as the game has gone on. They've been more clinical and have shown more intent, confidence and structure in the second half, deserving winners. Scotland are customarily slow starters, especially away from home but looked physically competent in the 1st half if nothing else. Some poor defensive lapses, particularly for Kearney's try, in the 2nd half didn't aid their cause.
A lot to think about for Wales' trip to Dublin. If they don't, and recent evidence suggests that they won't, mount more of a challenge at the ruck/maul and find some way to disrupt Ireland's phases it'll be a very similar scenario, only with the losing side wearing red.

I would agree except for the fact that POM missed two poor tackles which may have affected his chances. Other than that he was exceptional though.

Re: Ireland vs Scotland
Can someone start the Calcutta cup thread so we can move on from that pathetic performance?
Duncan Taylor seems to have joined the recent pantheon of average Scottish inside centres and can count himself amongst such legends as Andrew Henderson and Graeme Morrison. Duncan Weir is primarily a kicking fly-half yet is not trusted to kick, Laidlaw seems insistent on twenty metre kicks that alleviate little or none of the pressure. Dunbar looked decent in defence and didn't have much of a chance in attack, Maitland looked promising but it looks like he'll miss the rest of the tournament. Lamont showed again that he no longer has the pace to play on the wing, perhaps he should consider a move to the back row? Hogg looked decent as did Denton, Grant and Swinson. Ford was the same as always, as was Hamilton, Low was average at best and Brown is not an openside.
For next week I'd go for:
15. Hogg
14. Seymour
13. Dunbar
12. Scott
11. Fife
10. Weir
9. Cusiter
8. Denton
7. Fusaro
6. Brown
5. Gray
4. Swinson
3. Low (there is literally no one else if Murray isn't fit)
2. MacArthur
1. Grant

2. MacArthur
1. Grant

Re: Ireland vs Scotland
The Irish backrow finally looks balanced. A couple of bad missed tackles aside (which Demented Mole pointed as a weakness in his game) POM was excellent. Henry was the top tackler in the pack and stopped Scottish ball by hook or by crook (usually crook). Heaslip was average in the first half but really good in the second. Touhy showed his form and outplayed Toner. Best and Healy played well though Ross surely is on borrowed time. Even better, the bench actually has quality on it.

Better team won, comfortably.
Set-piece let us down, we played smart territory with Weir playing well.
Ford benched and I think Welsh needs to start at TH, most solid scrummager.

Re: Ireland vs Scotland
Efficient win for Ireland. I thought the Scots were a handful in the first half and really had Ireland under pressure. They're a big physical side.
Ireland stepped it up in the second half and once they edged in front Scotland lost a bit of confidence.
If that was last season Scotland would have won!

Hard to take anything positive from that for Scotland. You would just hope that we won't be that bad again. When will we ever manage to hit a 6 nations running!
A few changes needed for next week. Some wingers, a hooker, a second row, a centre and a better balanced 2nd row! KB went off quite early considering he was captain. Was he injured?

Re: Ireland vs Scotland
Ffs Scotland, I really want them to do well because I know they can but that' always what happens.
First half I thought they were the much better team and the forwards were outstanding. Joubert as usually can't ref at the breakdown and scrums. Healey put in a good shift but should have been penalised twice for not scrummaging straight. At a lot of coming in t the side around the rucks which Joubert didn't act on.
Second half though you couldn't; fault the Irish they were superb, Scotland as usual choked and completely lost the plot.
How Ford is allowed any where near the 23 is beyond me. Didn't think much of Duncan Taylor but Dunbar played well. Roger Wilson and Kelly Brown didn't meet their expectations ether, the best player at the breakdown for Scotland was Morey Low ffs (fair do's to him though). They lacked a real 7 like Henry who completely justified his inclusion, as did all the Irish back row.
Scotland I love you but come on it's just not good enough. I was hoping for another close cut game after half time but they just took their foot of the accelerator.
Sensing another wooden spoon sorry guys, unless they play for the full 80 next week like they played the first 40 this week.
I'm very wary of this Irish team next week, hope it will be a classic
