Thought I'd start a thread to discuss next weeks game.
ENGLAND
England head coach Stuart Lancaster has kept faith with the side which lost to France and named an unchanged line-up for Saturday's match against Scotland.
Gloucester's Jonny May starts on the wing despite breaking his nose nine minutes into the 26-24 loss in Paris.
Courtney Lawes will be in the second row after his cheekbone bruising eased, while Danny Care and Owen Farrell form the half-back partnership.
"They're determined to put last week's result behind them," said Lancaster.
England will be hoping to avoid a third successive Test defeat, having lost to New Zealand in the autumn and France in the opening weekend of the Six Nations.
Scotland, however, were well beaten by Ireland on Sunday have not prevailed in the Calcutta Cup since their 15-9 win at Murrayfield in 2008.
"Scotland will be hugely motivated by their defeat in Dublin and, as we found two years ago, Murrayfield is a tough place to play," added Lancaster, who began his England reign with a 13-6 win against Scotland in 2012.
May is not expected to wear a protective face mask when he wins his third cap in Edinburgh.
Luther Burrell, who scored on his debut at the Stade de France, will make his second Test appearance at centre, while Jack Nowell takes up the right-wing spot for what will also be his second cap.
Wasps prop Matt Mullan will travel as the 24th man.
England XI v Scotland: Mike Brown (Harlequins, 22 caps), Jack Nowell (Exeter Chiefs, 1 cap), Luther Burrell (Northampton Saints, 1 cap), Billy Twelvetrees (Gloucester Rugby, 9 caps), Jonny May (Gloucester Rugby, 2 caps), Owen Farrell (Saracens, 20 caps), Danny Care (Harlequins, 43 caps), Joe Marler (Harlequins, 16 caps), Dylan Hartley (Northampton Saints, 51 caps), Dan Cole (Leicester Tigers, 44 caps), Joe Launchbury (London Wasps, 15 caps), Courtney Lawes (Northampton Saints, 26 caps), Tom Wood (Northampton Saints, 24 caps), Chris Robshaw (Harlequins, capt, 21 caps), Billy Vunipola (Saracens, 6 caps)

Throw like you did last week, don't bother hooking, listen to your manager, sounds like a genius with a foolproof gameplan and a lot of idea about what a pack is, not a completely loony

Really really upset for Tonks. He is a promising young player and I wish him a speedy recovery. Hopefully he will be back and really pushing that 10 jersey for scotland. For Edinburgh, Ooooft, getting bare in the cupboard at 10. Is it time to reconsider loaning out Lee Jones and think about bringing him back to see if he can play at stand off?
I mean all he'd need to do is tackle the occasional player, catch the occasional ball and pass it from time to time.

Of course. We practice lineouts and scrums for an hour every week so that we are in good condition, then gym.

DISASTER
One side of my face started swelling, by this afternoon I could give a good half impression of Deputy Dawg. Dentist emergency --- Abscess---- very painful draining, now antibiotics.
The Abscess and treatment is not the problem, the swelling probably improves the looks; with these antibiotics, NO ALCOHOL, how can I go through a whole day of 6N and not have a pint or two?

The England lads were certainly huge..hugely impressed with Tomkpins, and I obviously already know about Kibirige.
Earls looked a player at 15.
How can we be struggling for 13's when we have Tompkins and Daly about.

Well I'm in Edinburgh and today was one of the best days in months. Absolutely cracking, great rugby conditions.
Just in case people lose all hope for Scottish Rugby, watch this clip:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTt1wIr-NX8
i) Ross Ford takes the ball flat, at pace and targets the gap. Good.
ii) We switch play and NICK DE LUCA sees a chance - two forwards, one a hooker, and he goes for it. Yes, NDL. I know, right. Create, identify - execute. Good.
iii) Tonks is constantly at his shoulder, ready to receive a pass and allow +1 effective challenge on NDL. Good
Ignore the result...
But the crucial aspect to this is that we can play rugby that was completely missing at the weekend. We hear about creating chances. The build up play with the forwards, creating the mismatch, was creating the chance. WE CAN identify, and crucially execute, these opportunities. Don't give up hope. We have it in us. It just needs to be encouraged and revitalised with a more potent, driving pack that can create more chances to increase the likelihood of a score.

I am somewhat disappointed in the dropping of sir Kellybrows Is it easier for coaches when there is little choice in a position? We have a lot of good back row players and this seems to confuse the coaches come selection time.
Otherwise loosing Maitland is a blow and its hard to see anything other than an England win.

If anyone saw pictures of the captains run yesterday the pitch was a disgrace even for that - doesn't bode well.

If the pitch is as bad as it sounds, the English players should be able to take a run up from halfway to the 22, dive and slide under the posts. Mud can be our friend too

CJ the antibiotic given to me is Metronidazole, often used by dentists. I have to wait 48 hours after I finish the course as well
Timidazole is another that makes you rather ill if you drink, this one requires a 72 hour abstinence after finishing to get it out of the system.
Reactions are:
- •breathlessness
•headaches
•chest pain
•skin flushing
•increased, or irregular, heartbeat
•lightheadedness
•nausea and vomiting
You also need to be aware of mouth washes and the like that contain alcohol these should be avoided.
I am sure the good Dr G can advise more than I.

I think it stops acetaldehyde dehydrogenase from working. This means you can't break down one of the by-products of alcohol, which is the one responsible for a lot of the symptoms of a hangover, thus creating some really unpleasant side effects. There's a drug we use to dissuade dependent alcoholics from drinking during abstinence, and this essentially does the same thing

Morning boys. Just saw this. I almost never prescribe metronidazole. In fact, I wanted to be sure so I just called one of my mates in the practice to be sure. CJ is right it is very strong, has particular uses, and can cause significant stomach upset. This isn't one of those one-in-a-million warnings which come with every medication. There is a good chance of a real unpleasant reaction. But it is strong stuff and will get you better.ChequeredJersey wrote:WELL-PAST-IT wrote:ChequeredJersey wrote:WELL-PAST-IT wrote:DISASTER

Out of interest do you know why something this strong was ordered for you? Usually an infection in the gum area is treated with simple amoxicillin or augmentin. Have you been treated previously with little effect? Or did they perform a culture and see which kind of infectiuon you have? Or are in you severe pain and your doc is choosing the nuclear option to kill your infection. Please don't read anything bad into my questions, just out of interest. Certain strains are prevalent in different areas.
By the way, I have a bad feeling that a lot of us will have significant stomach upset after watchng Scotland-England today..........

Metronidazole is usually used for tooth abscesses in my experience - usually the bugs are not sensitive to amoxicillion or co amoxiclav anaerobic bugs rather than aerobic? Probably you never prescribe it because most tooth abcesses will be seen by a dentist?
