Thought I'd start a thread to discuss next weeks game.
ENGLAND
England head coach Stuart Lancaster has kept faith with the side which lost to France and named an unchanged line-up for Saturday's match against Scotland.
Gloucester's Jonny May starts on the wing despite breaking his nose nine minutes into the 26-24 loss in Paris.
Courtney Lawes will be in the second row after his cheekbone bruising eased, while Danny Care and Owen Farrell form the half-back partnership.
"They're determined to put last week's result behind them," said Lancaster.
England will be hoping to avoid a third successive Test defeat, having lost to New Zealand in the autumn and France in the opening weekend of the Six Nations.
Scotland, however, were well beaten by Ireland on Sunday have not prevailed in the Calcutta Cup since their 15-9 win at Murrayfield in 2008.
"Scotland will be hugely motivated by their defeat in Dublin and, as we found two years ago, Murrayfield is a tough place to play," added Lancaster, who began his England reign with a 13-6 win against Scotland in 2012.
May is not expected to wear a protective face mask when he wins his third cap in Edinburgh.
Luther Burrell, who scored on his debut at the Stade de France, will make his second Test appearance at centre, while Jack Nowell takes up the right-wing spot for what will also be his second cap.
Wasps prop Matt Mullan will travel as the 24th man.
England XI v Scotland: Mike Brown (Harlequins, 22 caps), Jack Nowell (Exeter Chiefs, 1 cap), Luther Burrell (Northampton Saints, 1 cap), Billy Twelvetrees (Gloucester Rugby, 9 caps), Jonny May (Gloucester Rugby, 2 caps), Owen Farrell (Saracens, 20 caps), Danny Care (Harlequins, 43 caps), Joe Marler (Harlequins, 16 caps), Dylan Hartley (Northampton Saints, 51 caps), Dan Cole (Leicester Tigers, 44 caps), Joe Launchbury (London Wasps, 15 caps), Courtney Lawes (Northampton Saints, 26 caps), Tom Wood (Northampton Saints, 24 caps), Chris Robshaw (Harlequins, capt, 21 caps), Billy Vunipola (Saracens, 6 caps)

We don't prescribe it much because we have a well thought put policy of not overusing antibiotics. It is strong and over-prescribing contributes to the evolution of resistant strains of bacteria. We do use it occasionally, but only in severe cases. This is why I asked those particular questions. I am sure his dentist had good reason for doing what he did. However, most dentists prescribe one of the two anticiotics I mentioned as the best starting place. Flagyl (commercial name) is very strong and in general is not a first choice antibiotic (whithout good reason).TJ wrote:Metronidazole is usually used for tooth abscesses in my experience - usually the bugs are not sensitive to amoxicillion or co amoxiclav anaerobic bugs rather than aerobic? Probably you never prescribe it because most tooth abcesses will be seen by a dentist?

I am addicted to watching the ruddy England Rugby team. I need medication every time I watch the basterauds play. Usually comes in pint doses. I believe the chances are that I will over-medicate this afternoon.mystiroakey wrote:How many docs are on here...

In the uk it's still used a lot post surgical procedures, some of the hospitals we are attached to use it a lot. But then some of the local guidelines are weird and the variation is huge

I think the surface, if we can keep our footing in the scrum, will suit England fine. I think we can bully that Scottish pack

I'm getting excited too - reckon it sounds like it could be mud wresting though?

Weird. Back in the UK I never used it much. Oh well. Kind of moot as our patient has been provided what he has, and we will have to compensate for his underuse of beer. The Rugby Gods will demand that. Otherwise we will have to sacrifice a virgin.............ChequeredJersey wrote:In the uk it's still used a lot post surgical procedures, some of the hospitals we are attached to use it a lot. I hope you're right CJ. I really hope it's not 6-3 at fulltime, although I'll take that if Eng have the 6.

I suspect a dull game I am afraid. England will play position and attempt to force penalties and will build a slight lead. Scotland will try to play offload rugby getting more and more desperate but will be unable to breach the england line Scotland will waste too much possession.

Dull is ok as long as it's tense, if that makes sense. Or, for entirely different reasons, really really one sided in our favour.

Yes - tension can be exciting in its own right I guess. I could certainly live with one side in our favour.

Exactly how I see it with the weather.
England's superior pack should still be enough to run out comfortable winners though - with most of the points off the boot of Owen Farrell.

I doubt it will even be that tense. As I say I expe3ct england to play a very conservative gameplan kicking for territory and attempting to force penalties. I don't see any prospect of much exciting from them. I expect to see scotland attempt to play a bit of rugby but to execute poorly. I expect a lot of reset scrums and static mauls

I think a lot depends on the condition of the pitch. If poor underfoot then we might have a real mess. Hopefully it will hold up. What's the weather?

Aye it's pretty decent weather for Scotland!
Well folks I'm off to the boozer and then Murrayfield -lets hope it's a decent game at the very least - there really have been some horrific Calcutta cup games at Murrayfield!

It will be poor - the pitch is badly affected by the nematodes and has no root system to hold it together. Scrums will be a real mess

Weather Update:
I'm in Edinburgh and there definitely hasn't been any sleet. It's windy, wet, and damp, but there is only light rain infrequently.

Yeah I'd have been surprised if you'd preferred Liverpool - 5-1, good match. Could be a similar score at Murrayfield id reports of mud and pitch killing beasties are accurate. Hope not.
Ireland looking completely dominant in Dublin..

Ireland looking very powerful against Wales.
I'm now expecting a classic 6-7 scoreline for this game. The England pack to get the game winning try.

Well this will be interesting in terms of the coaches. Vs ireland Cotter was up against a more accomplished Schmidt. This is Cotters first vs a non Kiwi coach, albeit a very smart one in SL. He doesnt look to have the firepower either but it will be interesting what tricks he has for England. The kiwi connection here makes this one interesting for us- particularly after the Schmidt- Gats match up we just witnessed.

Good luck to Scotland today, I think that you will need it.
That said, the conditions certainly will suit Scotland better than England so it could be quite close.
