England vs Wales 9th March
First topic message reminder :
Let's look towards the next game after getting ourselves back on track against France, just like last year, after the Irish put the spanner in the works.

Interesting - Tipuric starts for the Spreys against Edinburgh tomorrow, Ryan Jones on the bench and Matthew Morgan nowhere to be seen...

It won't hurt Tipuric starting and to get a full 40/50 under his belt will do him good. I am wondering if Ryan Jones might get added to the squad.

If you want tickets for this match, then I'd advise that you don't buy from Farrell (going by the above). Go Dai Lama.

I agree
Rhys Webb played a great game vs Treviso and then stepped up well vs France.
Considering how easily Tipuric and Warburton dismantled the England backrow last year it might be that Gatland is thinking of using them as left and right this time?
I think Phillips is back at Racing too.
Any news on Jake Ball?

Re: England vs Wales 9th March
Jake Ball isn't in the Scarlets team vs Munster. Don't know what we make of that, is there any question of his having a niggle?
Interesting to see that Owen Williams seems to be keeping Toby Flood out of the Leicester 10 shirt at the moment - suggests they are really bringing him on well.

I cant see many changes, regardless of who has been released and those changes I expect will involve AWJ and possibly JD.
I imagine AWJ will come straight back in with either Ball or Charteris dropping to the bench at the expense of Coombs and possibly JD either starting or on the bench.
Both dependant on fitness.

i would personally start everyone if fit who played against France . gatland said he would drop players if they played that badly against Ireland now its time to reward that performance with exactly same squad

jimmy,
I would be happy with that but can see AWJ coming straight back in, would happily start JD on the bench at the expense of Hook but feel it will be at expense of Biggar if he does .

maj,
He played last week and bench this week for the Os so looks like he's fit but nothing mentioned about him being added to the squad again.
His experience would certainly be huge bonus and would be interesting to see the make up of the bench if he was added.

I disagree he still fulfills a super sub role that we know Gats favors, though we are now overwhelmed with quality in the 2nd row - injuries aside - we are short in the back row 6 and 8 so i expect to see him back.

possibly, we are short of 6/8 options and being able to play 2nd row makes him, like hook, versatile and very good bench material

i always liked Ryan he seem a nice bloke in interviews and i do hope he plays again but realistically he's injury prone hes 30 plus and hes more or less like hook a bench player. will he be around in a year and half time .plus someone mentioned before these versatile players keeping genuine positioned players from game time

Re: England vs Wales 9th March
I'm sure Gatland will stick to Dan Lydiate and Sam Warburton. As far as i'm concerned Tipuric had his chance against Italy and he didn't step up. No doubt he is the best 7 in wales but he blew it for this six Nations. He knows Gatland favors Sam and he needed to make it impossible for Gats to drop him and he didn't.
Lydiate was crucial in our defense vs France and will be again vs England. When both Lydiate and Sam Warbruton are on form they make the best 6/7 partnership out of all the six nations.
I'm pretty sure Jake Will be on the bench vs England with Alyn Wyn and Luke starting (rightfully). I would bring ball on for Luke after 50 because he will cause havoc at the breakdown area for England, it will be effective to bring his grit and strength on to pressure their rucks. Gatland didn't release Jake the week before the french game because his plan was to use him off the bench (before Alyn Wyn got injured) and that's what he will do again next week.

I agree Tipuric had A chance against Italy but the pack were all poor so reflected bad on him to. Warburton came back last week and had a great game and was my MOTM, Lydiate himself proved what he's good at so for me they are head and shoulders our best combo.
Jones certainly has a role from the bench and his experience be great but who would yoy now bring him onto the bench instead of, one of the 2nd rows or Tipuric?

Do you think there's no rugby today coincidentally? Or that the 6N is structured to avoid providing Wales with that advantage?
Especially after the last game played on at Patricks day?

i wish the england game was on today- then the welsh may realise its just another day. after we smash them
Paddy's day is just a commercial exercise to make money from the plastic paddies(yanks)
St Georges day just doesn't exist.
I dont even know when it is. In fact i doubt 80% of us do..

Re: England vs Wales 9th March
Off topic I know but for me this would have been a great day to have the double headers on and really marketed it but the problem being is that majority of the big name players are with Welsh Squad so wouldn't have been easy.
Though how many will turn out even on Easter weekend is another issue.

You're so right, mystir. Worse day of the year for me. I wish we had a Trooping of the Colour event instead where plastic Anglophile yanks get to see a family march out of their house, do some exercise around the front yard for an hour or so, and march back again for a spot of warming tea. Much more civilised kinda plastic.

no, no, no, mystir. I wouldn't presume to impute what any English person thinks of Monarchy, the Queen or anything else regal. That is for them - a private matter. I've often watched the pomp and ceremony myself.
But Plastic is Plastic, - and tourism exploits plastic. So even though England doesn't celebrate St George's day, they do have their placticisation of culture events...for the yank tourists. That would be my one and only point.

Actually the opposite... an habitual drunk taking to the street for a few hours on a day off with a mask on, or on a float, ain't much good to Guinness profits! They secretly want to ban the fuss and just have a 24 hour open-all-hours pub day.
They have one in its infancy called Arthur's Day.............. and, peculiarly for the Irish and drink, a very contentious day it's turning out to be too.

Never. I'm not tee-total. But on a very good year... I mean a real heavy drinking year for me!..... I probably have a bottle of wine per year! Usually around Christmas... and spread out over the month into single glasses here and there with family or friends. And that really is a heavy year for me!! Otherwise, often zilch.

Re: England vs Wales 9th March
Well there are two kinds of drunks I guess, mystir...ones that become belligerent and ones that become soft and playful. I think those traits need to be in there to an extent already - drink just frees them. So I'd reckon I'd be a mellow drunk enough.
But in real life - (outside this talkative as-s-hole persona Fly ) I think I'd surprise many who would meet me actually. I'm not a thousand miles away from Fly but I'm certanly not as longwinded and talkative in real life as he is That's why I sometimes need to get away from him - he bores even me at times. After 6N, he'll be locked in his room again for a while.... the mouthy gobshyte know-it-all.

See you seem to be suffering selective memory syndrome. They did follow through with the "threat" and ended up losing heavily. It was one of the most stupid tactical announcements in history.
