Ireland v France - The 6N decider
First topic message reminder :
With such a strong points advantage if Ireland can just win in Paris then the Championship is there's. Now it's never been a happy hunting ground for Ireland - can they do it?
I think it's there year and I'm going to say yes.

O'Connell has been immense you know too. Hasn't got many plaudits but he's had a massive tournament. What a player.

Fantastic punditry work by George Hook tonight, who is sporting some kind of leopardskin cravat taken from the wardrobe of a Mediterranean playboy, showing his usual cutting insight!
"Wellllll! The thing about defence is... you don't have the ball."
Talk about replacing BOD... how are we going to replace Hook, eh?

BT, I know. I was there.
I think we need to test ourselves against your bully boys and just see how far we have come.
Physically we have become a match for NZ and too much for Aus, but SA are a different kettle of fish. if we can match your boys physicality, I think we are on course for a good 2015, especially as you are in our group.
SL is very good at learning from past games, I think we need to understand how we compare in order to make any adjustments we need to have a chance at topping our group.
I don't write off Wales either, one day they are going to get it right against SH opposition and play a game plan that works. With their skill set, I see SA as being the ones that they could do it against. They lack the guile of NZ and the spontaneity of Aus although they could out muscle them and maybe with a new younger front row give SA a surprise.
Just to keep on track:
CONGRATULATIONS IRELAND. Always my second team, have very good memories of touring in Dublin.

Great game by the chubby one. Best game I've seen him have in ages. Serious workrate too.
Think he got motm (at least according to french tv). bod might have got the RTE one
Good game. Did our best to give old BOD the send off he deserves and even had to butcher an easy pass to make it happen .
Incredible that France got that close to win the thing without any set piece, little phase play and a dodgy defense. They did well otherwise specially winning many collisions. Players were up for it and even the halfbacks were decent. Shame there is not much composure to be seen.
Ireland did well kicking into picamoles and dulin hands. Trimble was great in that respect chasing very well (ulster trademark play). POC was very important as well. So credit to ALL Irish provinces

I can assure you the best side did indeed win the tournament, have a wee peek at the table.
Any, despite such deluded comments what a day, what a win. The script of a thriller couldn't be any more nail biting and it would have been the perfect script if BOD had made the line and scored off the Trimby break.
So happy for the whole Irish squad and so so proud of our Brian, what a legend. He will remain in rugby folklore long after we're all goners.
See ya BOD and thanks so very much my good man....

Kearney, BOD, D'Arcy, Heaslip, O'Connell, Best

Can someone translate "yn dod ar cymru". My young assistant has the misfortune to have a Welsh father although he is blessed with an English mother, born in England and lives in England, where it would seem all his Welsh relatives live. He is still misguided enough to support Wales and sends me cryptic messages every now and again, either that or his keyboard is Russian.

Will BOD now be picked up by Sky or BT and will I be able to understand him with my limited hearing. I have trouble with accents and the Irish do not move their lips as much as the English or the Scots. The Welsh are very visual in the way they speak but the lack of vowels (English sort of vowels, not L's) makes life difficult for old s0ds like me.

Me? No there are 1.2 pints in a bottle of wine or there abouts. I an well into my second as I type plus a few beers.
Not my usual consumption I might add. My liver is healthy, my BP is that of a 20 year old ( thanks to the pills) and my weight is a stone less than I was in my prime early twenties, now a mere 17 stone.
My knees however are that of a 190 year old, my ankles someone around 120 year sold and my fingers now longer work, hence my typing.

My only vice, never smoked, been married to the same woman for 34 years ( God knows how she puts up with me), do what ever I can to stay as fit as I can be. Difficult when your bones clank together when you walk never mind run, eat sensibly and have never taken a prohibited substance or a un-prohibited one of the whey-hey kind.

If you have the space I recommend the cross trainer big time. Much less pressure on the joints pal

Re: Ireland v France - The 6N decider
I have a Recumbent exercise bike. Unfortunately I didn't mention my back.
Back in the early 70s, if you were ugly enough and big enough you were old enough. I was playing lock for my town second team at 15 against guys in their 30s. I was already about 14 stone at 15 and was quicker than most wingers. Your bones are still soft at that age, it didn't do me any good, especially after playing for the school in the morning. That a broken foot and a couple of serious car smashes have not done my back any good.
The recumbent bike allows me to exercise without damage to my back, but as a result it helps hold my knees together and gets the cardio working, but I reply on a set of light dumbbells to exercise the upper body and keep it ship shape.

Oh I see you are all ready way into all this stuff..
Rugby was never my game. Used to play it with friends sometimes. But it was just never an option competitively at the schools i went to. My body is breaking down to my over indulgent lifestyle- Golf and Snooker dont really count as sports!!
But 14 stone at 15 with speed!! thats serious stuff.

Re: Ireland v France - The 6N decider
More serious at 22, 18 stone with speed. I was looked at by the Yanks for their football, but I couldn't get interested. My family is from the NE and I used to go up there and play a few games for Hartlepool Rovers, got looked at by the league scouts as well but found it boring.
I played as far as a kid from a council estate south of London was going to get before I was told point blank, that this was as far I would get with my background. Rugby in England in the 70s was very different to today. Cucumber sandwiches and Range Rovers were a very apt tag for Rugby Union in those days.
Completely bugge*ed my knee up at 23 and that was the end of my first class rugby. Continued playing though until I was 47, unfortunately that was some time ago and probably 10 years too long.
Still wouldn't change anything apart from the knee, loved every minute of the game both playing and social side. I used to throw the Javelin in the summer, good sport but completely lacking in the social aspect.
I played as far as a kid from a council estate south of London was going to get before I was told point blank, that this was as far I would get with my background. I need to add my congratulations to the Irish team, the fans and to Irish 606 posters, well done on a very deserved championship.

Luckily in Somerset and Devon rugby is equally played by public school boys and farmers, helps that the region is rubbish at football
