It's definitely a bigger deal, because it splits out the TV games over there. They are currently going through and analysing which network gets what game and who is playing prime time...

So Sodhat....thoughts on the Raiders this year. You reckon they'll pick up enough wins to keep Allen and McKenzie from the sack?

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
No, not really Gazzy. The strength of schedule thing is always a bit of a false reading so I'm not too concerned that it looks tough right now, because things flip so quickly in the NFL.
I can see us being competitive in most games, but I don't know if we have the gamebreaking, elite talent to make the difference. Ideally I want Watkins at #5 but it's not looking too likely presently, so I think we'll make do with solid additions and maybe going 6-10 or something.
What do you reckon? Going to Wembley in September?

I'm torn in truth
The optimist in me is hoping that the vets they've picked up will come with a real chip on their shoulder and play with a point to prove
The pessimist in me however just looks at that schedule and thinks that even if we can be more competitive we'll still be up a very notable creek without a paddle
It would be too good to be true if Watkins was there at #5, imagine if thats the case we'll look at trading down and gaining an extra pick
Yeah I am...can't wait for it. Although my Jackson jersey is ruined so gonna have to invest in a new one....shame the Nike store in London will likely only have McFadden ones (who I imagine will be injured by that point of the season anyway)

Chris Simms isn't too impressed with ESPN's evaluations of QBs:
@CSimmsQB wrote:Qbs are not falling. Being slotted closer to where they should be. Just cause ESPN said Teddy B was 1st pick in October means nothing
The people who really know are evaluating now. ESPN has to stop shattering young kids dreams!
Last yr it was Nassib and Barkley. This yr it is teddy b and bortles.
His top 5? Carr, Savage, Mettenberger, Garropolo, BortlesKiper said he would quit if Jimmy Clausen was not a good NFL qb. I am waiting.........

Just read that the NFL might increase the draft to a 4 day event but still with 7 rounds. Awesome idea, cos it isn't currently getting the ass kicked out of it enough by drawing it out over 3 days....

Just finished drafting a 7 round mock. Here it is:-

It's the first time I have done more than one round. Just thought it would be interesting to see how near or far from the actual draft I will be.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
I have just looked back at the last ten drafts and come up with some stats.
The average picks per position works out as:-
QB 3
WR 4
TE 1
RB 3
OT 4
OG 1
C 1
DE 4
DT 3
LB 3
S 1
CB 4
Positions most likely to pick up from RB are S, OT and particularly any pass rusher Ie DE/ LB.
The average number of teams drafting outside their original draft position is 11. That works out at just over 4 draft day trades and 1 and a bit previous trades either previous drafts or in-season trades.

Different kettle of fish after the CBA though. Teams can now afford to move up for a player and not be crippled by their salary in 2 years time.
I've taken 3 days off work for the draft so will be able to facepalm at the Jets picks live.

So, according to NFL.com, the Bucs are interested in trading Mike Glennon for a 2nd round pick if they draft a QB
Sad thing is, this probably won't be the most stupid story we read between now and Thursday night.

This is one of the more likely stories I have heard so far. Others include the Rams trading Sam Bradford to the Vikings and drafting Johnny Manziel.Number-25 wrote:So, according to NFL.com, the Bucs are interested in trading Mike Glennon for a 2nd round pick if they draft a QB

Oh don't get me wrong Mikey, I don't doubt they'd want to trade him in that scenario but for a second round pick?? Not a chance. Talking here about a guy that Lovie Smith decided wasn't going to be their starter before he even saw him in Spring minicamp. Add to that the fact that they would have a total logjam at QB in the event that they draft another one and they basically have zero leverage in any trade talks. The stench of desperation coming out of Tampa in trade talks would be overwhelming.... they'd do well to leverage a 5th rounder for him in that scenario, regardless of whether anyone thinks they've seen enough of him in the limited action that he has had so far to believe he's worth more.
Vikings would be mental to trade for Bradford. It's time they stopped mucking about at QB and hoping that a sticking plaster will turn out to be gold. Bradford has done little to suggest he'd be the guy. They'd be as well making a move for Manziel in the draft themselves then mucking about with Bradford.

49ers traded for Stevie Johnson
Not a fan of that, aging WR on the decline, never really more than a #2 guy for me
Does mean that Buffalo effectively traded Johnson and two 1st rounders for Watkins.
He better be damn good

Story coming from Cleveland is that the Browns commissioned a 100,000 dollar analytics study of NFL quarterbacks and what makes them successful over time to help them study this years class
And that study came back saying Teddy Bridgewater was the most likely successful NFL QB
Oh and also apparently Farmer wanted Bridgewater at 22, but Haslam overruled. Oh and they've told Manziel to drop the Hollywood act and prepare to be backup to yes Brian Hoyer coming off an ACL
Oh Cleveland

But wait Olly, according to a not at all knee-jerk and hyperbolic analysis I read on Friday on NFL.com, Cleveland are now playoff contenders..... are you telling me this might be a dysfunctional franchise that got a bit too much hype from one of NFL.com's amazing "experts"???
Is there a more devalued and overused phrase in NFL media circles than "playoff contender"?? If drafting Manziel makes you a contender these days then there must be a case that could be made for every team to be a contender.

I don't think it was too outrageous to label them a contender, I'd say that division is probably the most open in the whole of the NFL, and they have made some nice additions

I'm not buying it. They're 23-57 over the last 5 seasons. That is not a foundation from which you can suddenly label a team a contender for their division crown. Especially a division that has 3 other good teams in it. They'll most likely finish bottom again.

Steelers are over the hill and in need of a complete overhaul, Ravens are all-in on Joe Flacco, and the Bengals aren't quite sure if Dalton's their guy. There's plenty of room to win in that division.Number-25 wrote:Especially a division that has 3 other good teams in it.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
..... And Cleveland have Brian Hoyer? Johnny Football/Hollywood/Elvis? I'd take Dalton and his three straight playoff appearances over either of them every day of the week as things stand just now.
Ravens are more than just about Joe Flacco as their recent Superbowl win shows.
The Steelers may well be on the way down but their bad 8-8 last season is still miles better than anything Cleveland have even come close to achieving in the last 5 years.
Until there's concrete evidence to the contrary on the field, you can't possibly call them a playoff contender.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
After they won it they lost their defensive leaders and bet the house on Flacco though. They're not bad, they're just not unbeatable. Steelers have just enough quality left that it isn't completely obvious that they've fallen apart, especially on defense. Bengals haven't proved they can dominate the division yet, but even if they do there's a wildcard spot up for grabs if teams can't figure out how to defend Manziel quickly enough. It's not so much about the Browns being good as it is the division looking a lot weaker than it did just a few seasons ago.Number-25 wrote:Ravens are more than just about Joe Flacco as their recent Superbowl win shows.
