Robert Mathis suspended for the first four games of the season for PED use. Claims it was fertility treatment he didn't know was banned (even though it's mainly a female fertility drug that's also notorious for being used after steroid cycles). But hey, his doctor apparently vouches for him (even though his website is rather light on information about fertility treatments, and heavy on information about various HGH treatments).

I make that 257-255, which is wrong but better than some out there (ESPN once had one with 290 wins or something).

I dunno, I'm happy with the defense for the moment. It remains to be seen which Schaub we get, but I half expect Carr starting by October.
The schedule we have is tough, but I still see us as better than two wins. AFC West is overrated anyway, San Diego and Kansas aren't that great.

Panthers still have a dominant front 7. Offense has taken a step back, but Ealy should give them a Michael Bennett type interior rush (albeit less effective for now). I kinda like the Titans, they have pieces on offense, just no QB to take advantage.
Jags are well coached, but theres still a deficit of talent on that team. Right direction, but still a year away

Tennessee will forever be a 6-10 nothing side made up of offensive linemen. But agree with GSC that the Jags are a year away, but are taking huge steps in the right direction

If Charles gets injured KC are ****ed. Otherwise they have 2 talented pass rushers, a 3rd being groomed. Poes a monster up front. Secondary isnt spectacular but when you can get QBs down quickly they don't need to be.

Seattle missing the postseason is a brave call.
I don't buy into the Tampa hype. Seem to be the chic pick by association to KC, but KC played nobody until about week 11. Tampa gets the NFC South, AFC and NFC North, and I still have some questions about McCown as a legitimate starter in a division with Brees, Ryan and Newton.

I'm not all that enamoured with Seattle, think they'll struggle to replicate the emotion of last year. Add into that the division they play in, and the improvements of Arizona and San Fran, I think they miss the cut and go 9-7.
I like Tampa to pick 4/5 wins in the division and get to 10-6. There defence will restrict teams to under 20 pts a game, and they've got more than enough playmakers to get enough points. Also would bet on Glennon starting.
Jets to make the playoffs for me too. Pats probably won't get the 1 seed but homer pick

They backtracked on the Glennon thing and they're calling him 'their QB of the future' now. Apparently turned away offers too.
He should start ahead of McCown for me still.

If I were betting on divisional winners now, I'd be going:
NFC
San Francisco
New Orleans
Green Bay
Philadelphia
AFC
Denver
Indianapolis
New England
Baltimore
Nothing particularly shocking among those picks I think.

They don't have much else though, do they? They have massive massive holes along the OL and at WR. Newton will be under immense pressure with no weapons.
Titans wasted a first round pick and picked the wrong RB. I fancy the Colts, Jags and Texans to sweep them.
People are sleeping on the Jaguars, particularly their defense. As a side note, Allen Robinson in the 2nd is ridiculous value and he will prove to be their number 1 receiver in future years. Same with Telvin Smith at LB.

Roos will be gone next year, Lewan might not be a short term need, but you draft long term.
Tbh we often project rookies to have too much short term impact. Particularly at WR. The Allens of this world are rare

Yeah, but this year I wouldn't expect him to do much, esp with Henne/Bortles. Jags are still solidly a year away. Saying that, the AFC is terrible.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
They won 4 games last year and have added a lot of talent on the front end of the defense, and the young secondary (which is also underrated) has another year to improve. The OL is shaping up nicely and they have Shorts, Sanders, Robinson and Lee who can all contribute as pass catchers. I also think the front office has done a fantastic job trying to ease Bortles in by giving him weapons that he can grow with and also a familiar and talented RB, Storm Johnson.
They won't reach their full potential this year, but I still feel they have enough to reach the playoffs. You all thought I was crazy when I said the Jets would make .500 last year so at least keep your mind open.

The first half of the season is a greater rep of where the Jags are at competitively than the 4 wins they picked up against teams playing out the string. Like I say, right direction but it takes time to get there.

I saw the Jags live in London last year. They were awful, truly awful, to the point that they were cheered when they got a first down.
Still, I think they have some good talent on the team and they're building it nicely. If they have a patient owner then they can really benefit from the approach they're taking. Lets be fair too, Luck and the Colts aside, the division is winnable year on year.

They only got relegated because they got rid of the Michael Jackson statue, remember. If I were Khan I'd be flying that bad boy (no pun intended) to Jacksonville right now.
I can't be the only guy expecting a better showing from Trent Richardson this year can I? I don't expect mad numbers, but solid enough. His problem is he's going to be the poster boy for the falling draft value of running backs, unless he cranks out 2,000 yards or something.

Well now: deadspin.com/retired-stars-file-suit-alleging-nfl-doped-them-up-like-racehorses
And the named Plaintiffs experienced the same post-game ritual of trainers handing out medications, including pain killers and sleeping aids, to be washed down by beer. When teams were traveling by plane, the NFL trainers would have the medications in a briefcase and would walk down the aisle, handing out pills or placing them on players' seats in contravention of Federal law while the players were provided with beer at the back of the plane. Doctors were aboard these flights, knew the players were drinking alcohol and being provided various medications, yet said nothing to them about the risks of these medications, or of mixing these medications with alcohol.
Similarly, while any doctor who looked at named Plaintiff Jeremy Newberry's records should have seen the decreasing kidney function from his blood levels, Mr. Newberry was never told about that problem while with the League. Indeed, if not for one night after retiring that Newberry's blood pressure was measured at 250 over 160, at which point he was hospitalized for days, Newberry might have died from his kidney problems.

I wouldn't believe that just yet, some other quotes we've heard from Lovie and GM Licht: "I can't wait to work with Darrelle" and "Mike Williams is a valuable member of this team" (okay you could say trade value but doubt it was meant liek that). McCown is taking the majority of snaps in any workouts so far though.
The Bucs won 4 games with Greg Schiano and only the Saints vastly improved in the NFC South. The Falcons improved a bit, Falcons to a lesser extent to but not to any great degree. They won't win the division, with such an average QB they would be doing well to win 7 games.
They're giving McCown a decent chance to succeed with their weapons. He is erratic so big body guys obviously helps with catch radii and all that.
Not drafting Bridgwater may hurt them.

Think Indy have regressed this off season tbh. Haven't addressed the defence or offensive line really, just given Luck another weapon, which won't be much help when he's on his arse half the year. There defence is pants
