Tonight's action
First topic message reminder :
Anybody watching? Underwhelming to say the least so far in my opinion.
Was Fielding stripped of title for failing to make the weight?

Herrera's brain in Mathysse's body would be something dangerous.

Commentary announced it. Open scoring. Sniff a "close fight" decision

Herrera's gonna need to KO Danny to get a draw.

Re: Tonight's action
Not sure about that round. Garcia threw more but it was mainly clubbing shots to the arms. Herrera's been busier and cleaner for the most apart.

Re: Tonight's action
Had Herrera 116/113 up. Even 7th round and gave one, two and eleven to Garcia based on benefit of the doubt more than anything.
Herrera outjabbing him and beating him to it throughout.

Re: Tonight's action
Having seen the Lopez/De Leon fight that was a bad stoppage. Great little scrap heating up to boiling point and De Leon stopped because he was hit in the arms repeatedly?

Well done Alex. Sound advice from jbw as usual. Spend most of it on wine and women and just fritter away the rest.

Re: Tonight's action
Wow.
The Lopez right hook was sensational. But my word is he poor!! De Leon couldn't actually miss. Any top fighter gives him a pasting within 6.
Wilder....well....that guy probably p4p is the HARDEST puncher in the sport. Scott said after that it was the left hook opener to the temple before the right hand was the punch that did it. Sensational stoppage win. The real deal? Seems so but judgment reserved until he fights a Stiverne/Arreola etc. He bangs fury out in 1.
Bellew will get destroyed by the top dogs at the weight very easily. Gassed, got hit with a shot, should have been knocked out had the opponent not low blowed him lol
Kell Brook. Don't even know what result was. But he is crap.
And finally the average Garcia. Glad that happened last night. He gets one win against a chinless khan with a money shot and was starting to have the fight turned on him by matthyssee until his eye fell out. Judah gave him FITS late on and Morales in the first fight made him look stupid.
He has had a VERY big slice of luck and last night i had him 4 ROUNDS DOWN!! And that's being nice!!
im sorry, but he is over rated, and Mathysee beats him in a rematch, as does Khan....luck dependant.
But he is still champ somehow. Fair play. But wont be for long.

Re: Tonight's action
Thought Garcia was poor in there. Some close, scrappy rounds for sure, but I'd have a hard time making him the winner. Draw at best, though I had Herrera up by a couple.
Thing is, I've said in the past that I prefer it when Garcia plays the patient game and waits for the opportunities to come to him as a counter puncher rather than when he tries to make the fight, but last night that was what had him in so much trouble. He was on the back foot almost all the time letting Herrera initiate, but he looked very slow and sluggish - whenever he reacted and tried to counter, Herrera was already gone or had tied him up inside.
Not a total highway job, I suppose, but those two 116-112 cards just show what a waste of time it is when Golden Boy pitch one of their stars against a gatekeeper. Unless you know them out, you just ain't getting the win. I thought Herrera just outmuscled and outfought Garcia and deserved to win the titles. Garcia was a sucker for the jab all night.

Re: Tonight's action
just watched this on youtube (over 4 parts with ukrainian commentry), the quality wasn't great. Lots of ineffective pressure from herrera, garcia composed and in control on the backfoot. I think high expectations, brought about by a few good wins and media hype, have made people score Garcia harshly. Lots of close rounds, I would be satisfied with scores ranging from 114-113 to as much as 118-110 all in favour of Garcia. No way Herrera won this fight. The right man won. No controversy.

Re: Tonight's action
Would have to disagree with you 3fingers I genuinely struggle to make GArcia the winner, I had it 115/113 to Herrera and I was being as generous to Garcia as possible giving him all of the close rounds in my view. Fair enough if you saw it different, Herrera was tagging him with pillow punches and then clinching or moving away before Garcia could respond to be honest.

Re: Tonight's action
Haven't seen it, but from reviews I've seen, fingers is in a pretty small minority.
But then I didn't think matthysse v Alexander was a robbery, so I'm fine with minority views!

Re: Tonight's action
watching it again, in better quality better quality this time, but i still have garcia up after three. There's no way i can score herreras pitterpatter flea bite punches, they wouldn't even register as scoring shots in an amateur boxing contest. I'll continue watching and see if my opinion regarding the outcome changes.

Not quite a robbery as there was a lot of contentious rounds I suppose, but the best I could give was a draw to Garcia. Really struggle to see much more than that. Herrera's punches were scoring still even though they weren't having much effect.

Re: Tonight's action
Herrera's best weapon, by far, is his jab. He spoils a lot too.
Garcia parried herrera's jab to the body with ease by using his right-hand. I would have liked to have seen him forget about the parry, take the left jab to the body, and throw a hard right hand counter - to the exposed spot throwing a jab to the body creates. I'd also like to have seen him put his punches together more. Its seems he fancied himself as a banger and loaded up on his shots too much which in turn effected his timing. However as i see it, still a comfortable win for Garcia.

Re: Tonight's action
If Herrera's punches were so ineffective powerless he must have outlanded Garcia by A LOT judging from the state of each man's face.

Re: Tonight's action
I had Herrera by 4 Pts, agree a LOT of the rounds were contentious but no way in my mind Garcia deserved the win , he got took to school and old maned out of the fight at periods. I like Garcia but he got an absolute gift last night , you've gotta feel for Herrera he should have the belt but his performance has now meant he'll likely not be touched again.
