2014 World Cup T20 Live Matches Thread
First topic message reminder :
World T20 has started again...seems like a few months back WI won it........
I think this will be turned into a 4 year event...and rightly so.
so far:
--BD beat Afghanistan........avenging their Asia cup defeat...and BD were talking up the win as if it's an achievement......well maybe it is...shows where they have set their bar or expectations. I can't be excited watching or following such a game.
--Nepal beat Hongkong.......is this a surprise ?...I have no clue where / how either of these teams stand?....and no interest either.
--and the big upset IRE beat Zim off the last ball...and that too without their stars Morgan and Boyd Rankin

Caught right on the rope and now a new man in with eleven plus per over needed...
Come on Albie ?

Short life but a merry one for Albie
But 33 off 21 is doable...and overthrows have (rather unluckily for Sri Lanka) just made it easier.
Three overs to get 29

Great over Kulasekera
So Malinga has 15 to defend. Big task for Miller.

New Zealand were doing a pretty good job of chasing down the total even before the rain.

Re: 2014 World Cup T20 Live Matches Thread
we were in the same position at that point. would have still backed england all day long. so i dont buy that at all.
172 is a good score on that pitch.. we would have got a few more wickets guaranteed and that slows it down a bit.
I take it you didn't watch our innings?

Re: 2014 World Cup T20 Live Matches Thread
chasing 172 isnt easy- there are about 5 up on DL. we obviously slowed down a bit a the end- but chasing 172 is rare- happens less than 20% of the time.
Obviously they could have done it - but england were still up at the time..
I like DL when you reduce the overs and still play on therefore both teams understand where they are and what they need to get- but in situations like this is a real shame for the losing team.
it boils down to luck only

Yeah you're right. It certainly wasn't a given that NZ would chase down 173.
Don't know if I'd back England all day long at the moment though

no - we have no chance- we won't get back out there and if we do they would probably only get a few overs and knock over the dl with ease

i didn't watch...but from the scorecard......it does appear Eng is hard done by.
173 to win was a very defendable score...and almost all teams most times taper down after an electric start.......look no further than the earlier SA-Lanka game.
Unfortunate that rain hit before NZ started tapering

Didnt they used to have a 10 over minimum to have a game? That was ridiculous. Not that englnd had much hope but there's always a chance of taking quick wickets in this format.

England batted well in the first half of their batting but continuous fall of wickets pulled them back. I was expecting 20 run more but NZ did a great job. Moving to D/L, it is always disappointing losing a game like this when you have a defending total. But again it all depend on pitch. Chittagaon behaves like a batting paradise and chasing a score like that is always a 60-40 case.

Re: 2014 World Cup T20 Live Matches Thread
no way was that a 60/40 chase mate.
England were favs at that point. DL doesn't work to well in t20.
your best players play first in t20. that is the key issue with the same dl system in t20 compared to 50 over where you accelerate after 20/30/40 overs . In 20/20 you hit from the off and your best players start in the top 3 that can do that. Get mcculum out and NZ are out, he stays in they win. it was about him only and chances are he goes out for 35(his average)
also just found out all of NZ's 5 overs that allowed the match to be won was during there batting POWER PLAY!!
so they only use there easiest 5 overs to consitute a match..

Yeah, should at least be a minimum of 10 overs... if not 12.
In that scenario last night the odds were unfairly stacked against England. A complete joke!

I do agree. Don't see how a system can work when 1 side can win by batting exclusively in PP conditionsLinebreaker wrote:Peter Seabiscuit Wheeler wrote:Didnt they used to have a 10 over minimum to have a game? this game couldn't be going any better for pakistan!! The only real flaw has been massively revealed in this aussie side today as well..the spin department!

Maxwell playing a blinder thus far, OZ rebuilding at 44-2 Maxwell 30 off 12, meaning Finch can get himself in..

Aus vs Pak showing.......that if you have about 8 +RPO to defend.....the chasing team can come under pressure anytime...regardless of the nature of the start.

I'd drop Hogg for the next match... give Muirhead a go.
Anyway, well played Pakistan. They needed to win.
Oz seemed to be getting their eye in for this one. I'm just glad they sort of got close after that disastrous start.
Cheers KP_f.
