2014 World Cup T20 Live Matches Thread
First topic message reminder :
World T20 has started again...seems like a few months back WI won it........
I think this will be turned into a 4 year event...and rightly so.
so far:
--BD beat Afghanistan........avenging their Asia cup defeat...and BD were talking up the win as if it's an achievement......well maybe it is...shows where they have set their bar or expectations. I can't be excited watching or following such a game.
--Nepal beat Hongkong.......is this a surprise ?...I have no clue where / how either of these teams stand?....and no interest either.
--and the big upset IRE beat Zim off the last ball...and that too without their stars Morgan and Boyd Rankin

So the Windies ridiculous tactic of blocking at the start of their innings bites them in the ass
Gayle's innings was bizarre

well i said it at the time of the D/L game between NZ and Eng...that when it's a 20 overs only game...affected by rain...they must find another hour or so to complete......the next day or whenever possible.
using D/L on a 5 over window for a T20 game is trying to extrapolate this method to the zone where it ceases to be representative

Very convincing win by the England women's team. Not too sure about the depth of England's batting, but Shrubsole and co look like a strong bowling line up.

Virat Kohli leads another successful chase as India win comfortably in the end. Useful hands from Rahane and Rohit Sharma as well, and Ravichandran Ashwin was brilliant with the ball.
Its an India-Sri Lanka final, a repeat of the 50 over world cup.

At least we managed to give them a good preparation for their final

Lol from 40 off 24 balls, I thought it was 60/40 in India's favour. In twenty twenty, one big over is always just around the corner, but my god was Parnell shocking. Well played India though. I'll be supporting Lanka in the final, they deserve some silverware

The two teams that have played the best T20 cricket are the ones in the final....
That along tells me that T20 cricket is a game of certain skills, and is not a lottery.

It was even more of a lottery back then. But either way England were on there way to becoming no. 1 in all formats after that..
My point was that India are starting to understand the game as a game rather than a flip of a coin. The balance of there team is superb.

all 3 formats are vastly different...
Rankings matter only in tests...for the limited over formats it's the world cups and Champions trophy only that counts.....
India are good only in subcontinent

I agree about T20 being more of a lottery in 2009. It was only the second World T20, the first one in 2007 featured some genuinely clueless selections and play from a lot of the teams. I think in 2009 England had a great formula on the bowling side that would not work now, things have really moved on in 5 years

The final
Ind love to chase but will have to bat first today......
Lanka will on the other hand fighting the pressure of "losing another final" once India has put whatever runs they can put on board

India pay the price for picking the out of form and "finished relflexes" Yuvraj...and finish what looks like 35 runs short.
Ind can win it still bit Lanka will have to choke from here against some aggressive tight spin bowling

Re: 2014 World Cup T20 Live Matches Thread
--overly defensive approach is like jumping the red light.
Just because you get away once doesn't mean you can jump the red light with no consequences all the time.
--Dhoni got away with it in the s.f....when he used his dibbly dobbly seamers and part-timers like Raina.....keeping the strike game changing bowlers like Mishra, Aswin away until the 2nd half of the inning and not even finishing Jadeja.
leaving aggressive options for too late.....when the momentum of inning was gone.
--and he did the same today....Yuv is the flakiest of the batsmen in the top 8 on form......
and dhoni kept himself ; raina and jadeja underutilized....
again the same fallacy....leaving the aggressive options for too late.
got caught jumping the red light today.

Re: 2014 World Cup T20 Live Matches Thread
Commiserations KP_f and Indian fans.
Both very good T20 teams and certainly the most consistent in this tournament. As you say - India maybe got caught out today but they are still a class above most teams on any given day (in my mind).
Happy for Sanga and SL in a way too. It's good to have new winners each tournament. Maybe Australia will have a chance in the distant future?

Lasith Malinga has won more ICC knockout matches as captain than Smith, de Villiers, Wessels, Cronje and du Plessis... smh
Ecstatic for Lanka though, they made me a pretty penny.

Hehe. Maybe the three teams should now play a triangular tournament to decide who the overall winners are
