MEP Elections
First topic message reminder :
It's the European Parliament Elections on May 22nd, with UKIP hoping to gain the most seats after second place last time out, with Labour and Liberal Democrats looking to hold onto their seats.
But, does anyone care? Only one in three people voted in the last elections, but there seems to be more of a media interest, especially with the TV debates between Nigel Farage and Nick Clegg, which if you haven't seen are worth a watch. Could it be argued that by Labour and Conservatives not showing to the debates, that UKIP and LibDem will gain?
It seems that this year, there will be a higher turnout but will it be a significant amount? UKIP are certainly a more real opposition and will surely gain seats, with the opinion polls showing UKIP are likely to win.

Most of the MP's don't know or don't care, near enough everything is covered for them by expenses with little limits.
Absolutely ridiculous situation with their pay and expenses.

That is me done too.
Went to vote with the wife who, after weeks of me going on about the EU told me that she had voted for the SNP
Still, that is democracy in action.

Ah that's that done then.
Whistled "Rule Britannia" on the stroll to the polling station in the pouring rain, before voting for UKIP - it couldn't have felt more British if I tried.

Pouring with rain is good news for UKIP.......
Bad weather usually means trouble for the left.......As those voters generally are less inclined to take the stroll.......

Re: MEP Elections
What happens If UKIP win the Euros with 27 % ??
Yes Is ahead of No in the polls anyway.........and Cameron has already said he'll campaign for Yes as will Miliband and Clegg....
Meaningless win for UKIP should it happen..........Only thing it will do is give them impetus in their quest for a seat at the debates in 2015....
Even then they will be squeezed at the GE when people are desperate not to have either Cameron or Miliband..
Think you are getting excited over very little Duty..

Meaningless? Milliband and Cameron are already showing the signs of how meaningful it is, and the results have not even appeared yet.
With the rest of the anti EU MEP's expected all over Europe, how on earth is it meaningless.
It will only grow until the referendum is given.

The last 2 elections UKIp have finished in the top 3 and the following year gained nothing in the GE. I see nothing changing next year.

Meaningless? Cameron is already preparing in how to deal with UKIP's victory, as such a win will give greater impetus to the Eurosceptic back-benchers on his party.
Equally, if UKIP do win, it will give them greater momentum ahead of the Newark by-election which may give them their first MP.
Small steps, that's the key. And winning these elections will be a fantastic start, before they can start planning to win a few seats in 2015. That's all the aim will be.

Britain's only realistic anti-eu party is probably the Conservatives who have promised a referendum if they win the 2015 GE.

I agee with your statement that UKIP are a 1 policy party and that is why they will have very little success at the GE next year.

Some of UKIP's policies:
Oh yes, I forgot they were a one-policy party.
- Spoiler:
- No tax on the minimum wage.
Scrap HS2.
Abolish inheritance tax.
Cut foreign aid.
No votes for prisoners.
Create new Grammar schools.
Open GP surgeries in the evenings.
Have locally-elected County Healthboards.
No other system of law than British.
Oh yes, I forgot they were a one-policy party.

because everyone who votes for ukip is doing it because they want gp surgeries open in the evening or to have locally elected county healthboards......
If you don't believe UkIP are a 1 policy party then you can't proclaim that the election success fo UKIP in the european elections is because people want a referendum on Europe, maybe people are voting for UKIP because they want new grammar schools and not because they want a referendum on the EU?
In my view and in SKye's view Ukip are a 1 policy party. Yes they may advertise other policies such as no votes for prisoners (which is directly linked to the EU which is their only policy) but the issue they have solely been camaigning on for the last decade or so is for the UK to leave the EU hence why they are a 1 policy party.
It is not just me who views them as a 1 policy party but also the electorate who refuse to vote for them at the GEs because they don't believe UKIP have any other policies apart from the EU and at the GE people vote for the party that represents their views the most about issues that affect them the most.

Never mind hey..
When I voted the EU voting card was folded into like 6 pieces that you unravelled and UKIP were right at the bottom. There were a lot of parties that you saw first such as Conservative and no2eu and the English democrats who people might end up voting for instead of UKIP because of the way the voting card was made.

Maybe it should be called a one goal party. Much like LibLabCon.
One party though wants to save the UK. The other three with their agendas are doing their best at destroying it.

Not just me but the electorate knows UKIP only has 1 policy and that is the EU and that is the reason why they have no success at GEs because people don't care that much to spend their democratic vote at a GE on a party who solely campaigns about the EU.
Perhaps UKIP might need to change their tactics if they don't do that well at the GE next year, perhaps focus on some of their other policies so people might feel inclined to vote for them.
On a side note why didn't you vote for the ED they seem to suit your political views the most?

I didn't know that, all I know is that they are the only party who want the Uk to leave the EU and the only party that wants English independence from the UK.

I'm not denying that they advocate that they have more than 1 policy but if you take a deeper look they really do only have 1 policy and that is the EU. The fact that they only ever campaign over issues surrounding the EU and highlights to me and the rest of the electorate that they are a 1 policy party.

Re: MEP Elections
They're only focusing on their central policy during these elections because it's only the European elections.
Doubtless, they will focus on a much broader scope during the next General Election; which will be their first general election in which they will be partaking seriously.
