December apparently.
Given it is a shoulder injury he should hopefully have kept fairly fit, but he's obviously playing catch up in terms of upper body strength and the ability to take contact.

No real surprises there - great to see Denton back.
Bit of a concern over the backrow which, although fairly dynamic, is pretty lightweight. Grant obviously did a job at 6 last week, but it's far from ideal.
Sam H-C and Hurley now the number 1 halfback paring in Solomons' eyes?

Pretty much no option other than Roddy unless you want to start Denton after his long lay off, apart from him and Bradbury our other backrows are broken.

Just saw the injury list
Both Atkins and McKenzie injured, as well as Jamie Ritchie.
So not only are we desperatley short in the back row, we only have 3 fit second rows!
I dread to think what our team against Leinster next week is going to be like given the Scotland players will be rested...
Players currently on the injured list are: Ollie Atkins (ankle), Carl Bezuidenhuit (knee), Wicus Blaauw (knee), Neil Cochrane (hamstring), Mike Coman (leg), Jamie Farndale (knee), Stuart McInally (foot), Fraser Mckenzie (knee), Jamie Ritchie (shoulder), Matt Scott (shoulder), Michael Tait (knee) and Brett Thompson (shoulder).

Interestingly Du Preez isn't on the sick note list, bit sloppy that.
Also note that neither Brown nor Cuthbert are listed, so presumably just out of favour atm.

Team as expected. Welcome back Mr Denton.
McLennan over Dominguez, Cuthbert, Brown or Hoyland (all apparently fit) is an interesting call. I've yet to see anything from McLennan beyond mediocrity.

Is anyone else going to take their boots with them in case the announcer says "will anyone in the crowd who wants a game please make themselves known to the nearest steward. I have had a look at our team sheet and, basically, we are Donald Ducked. Oh yes and no poofy back's need apply"

The folk I feel most sorry for are Bristol. Playoffs for a single promotion spot are not a good idea.

I got excited during that game and some of the tries were down to nice moves but god this LW defense is really awful. Reminds me of some past Nanibian teams! Only after I realised that Bath, quins and exeter already put 50 points past them.

Big big game for Edinbrugh tonight in terms of our chances in this tournament - win this and it sets us up nicely to get 10 points off London Welsh over the 2 legs, which will pretty much put us in pole position in the group for top spot.

Beat Lyon tonight and LW on both legs and we'll be through. I suspect Bordeaux will finish off Lyon over their two fixtures.

I feel for you fES. I've got the rare feeling of really looking forward to tonight. Must win and could do with the BP as well since Bordeaux have picked up 2 already.
Looking at the state of London Welsh, coupled with what seems to be a disinterested Lyon....we may well be needing to win all 6 games if we want to top this group - could be tricky since given current projections we will only have about 12 fit players by January!
Could really do with a home Quarter Final this season. Get a crowd in and generate a bit of a buzz again in a "big" game with some genuine expectation. One step at a time though.

Re: ECC - Edinburgh Rugby vs Lyon 24/10/2014
Can you buy tickets at the stadium for this one?
Only ever been with pre-bought tickets but am not sure if I'll be able to make it or not...
Looks like about as good a team as we can field, though I would like to see 10 - Heathcote, 12 - Hurly. Playing with 2 7s (I realise that is all we have...) we should be looking for quick ball through the hands and clever and sparingly used tactical kicking to keep their defence honest; don't think "up and under" Burleigh is what we want for this although I'll be happy for him to prove me wrong. Maybe Tonks can step in at first receiver on occasion with Hurly outside him and Straussin the changing rooms showing leadership as a dummy runner?
Could be an interesting game anyway.

Even for Students /Senior Citizens (ASBO)/U18s?!
I knew tickets would be £25 on matchday (even though they should surely be trying to get the "passing trade" in rather than disincentivising it, but that's another matter...).

Tenner for tax dodging pot noodle eating students!
And I think we're all in agreement that £25 on match day is ridiculous.

Re: ECC - Edinburgh Rugby vs Lyon 24/10/2014
On the Plane home from London last night I was sat next to a guy from the RFU, all kitted up (very smart looking), so I started quizzing him about the rugby, he introduced himself as Matt Carley, and he was up to referee the Edinburgh game tomorrow night.
I said go easy on us, our guys are starting to get to know the time keepers in the penalty box by name...
He seemed like a nice enough guy and very knowlegeable.
As for Edinburgh Hurley Burleigh at 10 is something a lot of guys have been wanting to see we don't look too bad on paper to be honest.
London Welsh got pumped by Bordeaux and when quizzed on whether BB played bad against Edinburgh, the BB Coach rubbished the claims and basically just talked up Edinburgh and how good we were. Sounds dangerously like encouraging signs....
Watching Edinburgh has my mood going up and down like a hoor's knickers.

I'll have you know I'm a tax paying, real noodle eating person, who just happens to also lay claim to studentdom by virtue of studying for "professional/vocational qualifications" which the NUS recognise...

I thought you said you were never going back to Leith again?
Good story, and hopefully you'll have made a good impression that will sway the 50/50 calls! Maybe should have mentioned that all the penalties against us in the scrum have been wrong, and that if it looks like Ross Ford has thrown the ball in squint, it is just a trick of the light...

Potentially! If the Institute of Chartered Civil Engineers (is that the awarding body??) is on the NUS list, although I do not believe it is... The Institution of Civil Engineers is though. You just have to study either full or part time to qualify, and the card is £12 a year.

Institute of Chartered Civil Engineers doesn't exist - The Institution of Civil Engineers is the correct one.
I'm not doing any study at a student institution though, just in my own time or at work - does that count?
This is totally off topic, but if it gets me half price rugby tickets it is worth it!
Saying that, I sat my professional review a few weeks ago and find out I pass in the end of November....but they don't have to know that!

If it's in your own time then it's part time is it not? If you have a student membership with the Institute then I don't see why it wouldn't count. Think it would be too late now though if you finish in November, though if it's not guaranteed then maybe it could be argued that you have (X) years to run!

Right, when I did my professional exams (accountancy) I was not counted as a student, apart from by Napier for some weird reason I never understood, I had a course of three lectures there, and that seemed to get me cheap beer. Weird

Late team changes: Strauss and Dickinson out, Burleigh goes to 12, Cuthbert to 14, Heathcote to 10, Dell to 1, Sutherland to 17 + Dominguez to 22
Have to hope that the loss of Strauss & all his leadership qualities doesn't hamper the team too much.

Hope you're at Murrayfield, Strauss is out this is your time IYA!

I paid Schiz 20 nicker to 'do a Kathy Bates in Misery' to Strauss just before the match. Good work, feller. I may even make it 50 quid if Edinburgh wins.GLove39 wrote:Late team changes: Strauss and Dickinson out, Burleigh goes to 12, Cuthbert to 14, Heathcote to 10, Dell to 1, Sutherland to 17 + Dominguez to 22

Televised anywhere? A link would make my day.

None of the usual streaming sites seem to offer a link to that game.

Watson and Burleigh off with injury. Combined with Solomans remarkable ability to break players without even playing them, are we even going to have 15 players for next week?

I noticed Heathcote starting, so where did Burleigh start before coming off? And Watson injury isn't good.

Injured a hammy running to get on the train from Glasgow, GLove, I'm afraid.GLove39 wrote:InjuredYetAgain wrote:Is anyone else going to take their boots with them in case the announcer says "will anyone in the crowd who wants a game please make themselves known to the nearest steward. Don't get me wrong, the train wasn't due to leave for 10 minutes but I didn't fancy my chances of standing on the concourse in Queen St for 10 minutes and NOT getting my wallet nicked so I sought sanctuary on the train with fellow Edinburghers.
Actually, the real story of my journey back to the land of indoor toilets, electricity is even sillier. The train from Edinburgh came in and I along with everyone else started moving towards it. I was a bit behind most folk and noticed that the first carriage/the blunt end of the train back to Edinburgh was empty. Great, I thought. I'll get the disabled seat that has more leg room (being 6'3 not disabled). Anyway, one other person gets on my carriage and I have a little chuckle with her about how quiet the train is etc. Cue a beeping noise and the train door closing. And locking. After 5 minutes if knocking in windows, one utterly disinterested ScotRail employee let's us out of our prison just in time to see the 5.45 to Edinburgh disappear, leaving 3 carriages (mine included) behind. A pish way to end a pish week.

12. Strauss replaced before kick off.
I bet you he still wont play Ritchie or Bradbury next week either, citing them as "not ready"

Roddy Grant and Sam Beard now injured. So much for the conditioning work...
