Stiverne-Wilder for the WBC Heavy Title. Who Takes It?
First topic message reminder :
WBC champ Bermaine Stiverne & No 1 challenger & KO artist Deontay Wilder clash this weekend in Las Vegas.
Neither are particularly tested at the top level, with pretty much Stiverne's top level fight other than Lumbering Nipple Cris Arreola was a bit of a struggle against Ray Austin, who was about 96 at the time. Wilder on the other hand is crude and untested with massive power but there is a question mark over his chin as he's been all over queer street in some early videos when he's actually been hit. Wilder has height and speed, and Stiverne is tough, solid and is more experienced. It is an intriguing match up. Stiverne's 36, Wilder is 29 and a potentially very exciting fighter, but could turn into the US version of David Price.
At the moment Wilder is the betting favourite; however, I have this nagging doubt about what Wilder would do when tagged with a half decent shot. I think this fight has excitement written or over it. I doubt very much that it will go 12. Wilder seems to only know one way to fight and that is to bulldoze his opponent from the get-go and wing fast hard punches from all angles to get them out of there. Most of his opponents have been overwhelmed by power and speed, but he hasn't faced anyone who has obviously come to fight. I see Stiverne going down under an early onslaught but getting up to weather the storm. He'll make Wilder miss and take him out by round 5. Which, in all likelihood, means a 1st KO for Wilder.

Wilder is at least showing some brains in sticking behind the jab, but Stiverne's consistent body work is coming back with interest...

Must be disheartening for a guy who thought he could obliterate everything human.

I didn't keep a score because it was obviously not going the distance, now it looks like it might so I'm trusting you guys for a good score card.

Re: Stiverne-Wilder for the WBC Heavy Title. Who Takes It?
Wilder commanding without anything serious going on stiverne needs to crack on but looks tired. Wilder now jabbing with authority. Stiverne looking spent takes a massive hit without flinching
Re: Stiverne-Wilder for the WBC Heavy Title. Who Takes It?
Another good round from Wilder. Stiverne just not doing enough. I wonder if he's struggling to see, his face is pretty swollen.

Fury would beat both of these two although Wilder would be a tough fight

Again wilder jab is beautfiul more lovely one twos wilder seriously taking over. Stiverne pushing punches and wilder teeing off stiverne looking for the hail Mary lands a few shots but wilder taking em well 7 3 wilder.

Re: Stiverne-Wilder for the WBC Heavy Title. Who Takes It?
Stiverne taking some and landing some but wilder gets quite tight with his guard more vicious body shots stiverne picking up a bit but no enough energy maybe takes round but not clearly I'd say 74
Re: Stiverne-Wilder for the WBC Heavy Title. Who Takes It?
Stivernes round for me. Wilder took it off, whether he's getting tired or simply coasting.

Disagree, reckon Wilder beats him to the punch fairly easily and is a far harder hitter to boot with better reflexes and quicker feet.
I can see an argument for him beating Stiverne based on the Chisora peformence, but Bermane's power and chin would be enough to grind Fury down, presuming this fight doesn't end him. If he can take Wilder's hayemakers he'd chuckle at Fury's shots.

Stiverne showing a little urgency but wilder moving away and avoiding hits to the head but stiverne chopping his body wilder trying to smother him but all wilder 8 4
Re: Stiverne-Wilder for the WBC Heavy Title. Who Takes It?
I think any of the Fury v Stiverne/Wilder fights are pick-ems.

Wilder better than anybody thought, a chin not made of glass and not bad stamina for a big man.
Could only give Stiverne 3 rounds.

Re: Stiverne-Wilder for the WBC Heavy Title. Who Takes It?
Wow. Have to say I'm impressed.
Thought he would spark Stiverne early....but after 4....and he got sparked.
Great fight for the right reasons.....
Chin checked? Yes. 12 round fighter? Yes. Power? Yes.
This guy does seem to have some class and quality to go with that freakish power. Had a beautiful jab at times tonight. Would like to see a wider variety of shots mind you.
But hey, this Bronze Bomber fella isn't just a hype job....think he demolishes most out there and is probably THE hardest fight for Klitschko currently.

Think Klitschko is way too canny for Wilder and at this stage Wlad is almost impossible to hit.

The result everyone said wouldn't happen. I'll have to see if I can get this on YouTube later. Heard Wilder said he'd fancy a go at Fury afterwards, interesting.

Think the bookies took a lot of money from 606v2 last night, I didn't hear one person call a Wilder wide points decision. Fair play to anyone who had a go,I couldn't make a guess on it pre fight as anything could have happened Haven't seen the fight yet but you guys had it closer than the actual scorecards, were they unfair on Stiverne?

Yup cost me a few pennies having gone on either guy in the first four rounds. Got horribly intoxicated at the rugby so didn't wake up to watch it, reports are that he won handily. Ring had it 116-112 which is one of the closer cards I've seen.
Who would've thought he can box though eh? Here's hoping he does a job on Fury.

See the part about getting horribly intoxicated and not watching it.

You probably had a better night then staying up for it. Looking forward to any combination of Wlad/Wilder/Fury/Stiverne this year. Should be better than most recent heavy fights.

Re: Stiverne-Wilder for the WBC Heavy Title. Who Takes It?
Puts Fury to sleep inside 3 rounds, no chinny fighter will stand up to his power and he is better than Fury in every single department. Got to say Wilder is much much better than i thought he would be and that jab will trouble anyone including Wlad for once we might have a fighter who Wlad can just not stand out of range of and pick apart. Brilliant for the Heavyweight division to have a man who could go into a Unification match with Klitschko and it not be a foregone conclusion. Throw in the up and coming AJ and there could be some huge matches coming up in the next few years.

Re: Stiverne-Wilder for the WBC Heavy Title. Who Takes It?
I think you'll find that my 'all results possible' pick means that yet again I'm not wrong about a fight:laugh:
Haven't seen it but it has to be the best result for boxing, particularly the manner of it. If his chin isn't glass (even if it wasn't tested much), he can box and he can go 12 rounds... Plus he's american... Then the heavyweight division at last has some interest, which can only be good for the sport.

Wilder and Fury have shown they can box a bit in their last fights. Even Klitschko turned in a non-stinker recently. A bit of hope for the division at last as long as the releveant parties show the neccessary ambition.

No. He showed a good jab and movement and he can obviously load up but he still looks a little green. His stamina was ok for a heavy and nothing to get concerned about there. He took a few good shots and while a little stunned never looked in trouble. Wlad just way too experienced and difficult to hit.
Very few fighters could take the shots Stiverne did. The man is granite.
