Marvel Cinematic Universe
First topic message reminder :
With both the worlds of film and television being such an exciting time for fans of Marvel, I thought it was about time v2 had it’s own thread to discuss all things MCU.
Beit upcoming films, casting speculation, reviews/chat about the latest show episodes or just general comic book chat this is the thread to do it in.
Just to give you all a flavour (if you didn’t already know) of what to expect from the MCU here’s a rundown of the confirmed upcoming films & shows you can expect to be hitting your screens in the near future!
Marvel Studios
MCU Phase 2:
Avengers: Age of Ultron 1st May 2015
Ant-Man 17th July 2015
MCU Phase 3:
Captain America: Civil War 6th May 2016
Doctor Strange 4th November 2016
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 5th May 2017
Spiderman (Marvel Reboot) 28th July 2017
Thor: Ragnarok 3rd November 2017
Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 4th May 2018
Black Panther 6th July 2018
Captain Marvel 2nd November 2018
Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 3rd May 2019
Inhumans 12th July 2019
TV Series
Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Marvel's Agent Carter
Marvel's Daredevil starts 10th April 2015
Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones starts late 2015
Other Marvel Productions (outside of the MCU)
Despite not being part of the same ‘universe’ as the likes Iron man, Cap or Hulk there are still a number of Marvel characters ‘owned’ by other studios that have upcoming releases:
Fox Studios
Fantastic Four (Reboot) 7th August 2015
Deadpool 12th February 2016
X-Men Apocalypse 27th May 2016
Gambit 7th October 2016
Sony Studios
The Sinister Six 11th November 2016
So as you can see between now and 2019 there is a huge amount to get through…
What are you most looking forward to?
How do you see the Avengers storyline for instance progressing through to Infinity Wars?
How does Spiderman fit into the MCU and in what other films might he make an appearance (Civil war for instances)?
Who should play some of the unconfirmed roles such a Carol Danvers- Captain Marvel?
Was Benedict Cumberbatch the best option to play Dr Steve Strange?
Discuss all things Marvel below…

Not going until Tuesday, having to resist every urge in my body not to look at spoilers!
Good hear that it lives up to expectations!
What do people think is a reasonable amount of time before AOU can be discussed spoilers and all on this page?

Actually thought Age of Ultron was pretty good, but perhaps not as good as either the first Avengers or Guardians of the Galaxy.

Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe
Has anybody read the comics/graphic novels that these movies tie in to? After a bit of help as I want to read them to see how they marry up to the movies
I've recently purchased Age of Ultron, but for the likes of Civil War there are a number of titles I've seen, there's civil war itself, but then there's others like Iron man Civil War, Cap America Civil War and others I've seen. Any recommendations would I just need |CIvil War and road to civil war or would I also need each individular characters as well?
Also is Infinity Wars going to be the Infinity Gauntlet novel?

Here's one for you guys, out of all the films which 'minor' character do you like most? Whether it be powers and abilities or possible future attention?
What i mean is, i seem to enjoy the powers and abilities of some of the minor characters more so than the main stars. I always seem to find myself on wikipedia checking our character biography/storylines/powers and abilities just to brush up on my knowledge. A few characters i think are bad ass are Azazel, Collossus and finally, Darwin.

Has everyone seen the Civil War line up, think its only Thor and Hulk who aren't in it, some nice new additions to the cast as well with Martin Freeman and Daniel Bruhl confirmed

So, Tom Holland has been selected as The next Spiderman. Haven't heard of him, but its somewhat strange. Marvel Studios have made something of a deal in revealing they selected the Morales Spidey. I know they did a similar thing with Fantastic Four, wonder if it's just them making a point?

Nah I think I'll go with my gut instinct as it's usually spot on. I knew Garfield would be pathetic and I knew the 'amazing' Spiderman would be crappy movies... Turns out The Saint was right. By all means go and watch it, just don't come back on here complaining when you're left disappointed...

But it is hard to go against The Saint's gut, as he clearly knows his stuff...
I will toss a coin nearer the time, and retreat to here and beg for solace in case I make the wrong call...

A young Brit getting a chance to star in a global blockbuster - great news!
As for the movie itself, i just hope the actual film is better than the "amazing" spiderman double!

Watched Antman today, really enjoyed it. Had the right blend of comedy and action and some good performances. Paul Rudd has always been a favourite of mine and he played it well. I was surprised at him as the choice for the role but I think they made the right call.
The winter soldier is still my favourite but this is right up there.

Yeah, all the snippets for actual fans seemed to suggest they weren't happy with him as the lead role. Any suggestions who should be?
Funny, I haven't seen Antman yet, but it really doesn't get me excited...and yet im really looking forward to seeing the new Fantastic Four.
On a totally separate note....are they remaking the Green Lantern? I appreciate the original was geared more for family viewing...but I honestly quite enjoyed it. Do you think the new one will be darker?

Green Lantern had a lot of talk when Chris Pine was being targeted to play Hal Jordan, however he's now chosen to play Steve Trevor who is Wonder Womens love interest. However Tyresse Gibson has had meetings with WB, either way it can't be worse than the last version, don't get me wrong Ryan Renoylds was good but the director ruined that film.

Green Lantern, like all DC heroes except Batman, suffers from being Vanilla. Making a good movie out of all that vanillaness is beyond most directors.

Ah come on Batman is as one dimensional as most of DC's characters, he is shoved down everyone's throats and people lap it up even though a lot of it is sh1t, Marvel are guilty of that too especially if a movie is coming out, they release title after title of the same character(s) and make people just not care

I'm expecting this season to be more like the comics from what I heard at Comic Con, I do think Amell was a very good choice for the TV universe, wouldn't mind seeing Charlie Hunnam on the big screen but have no doubts they'd go for some big name who couldn't even grow a goatee.

Watched age of ultranationalist the other day.
Enjoyed it as i like the avengers etc but have to say it was all a bit meh.
2.5 hours and really minimal story telling. The vision explanation was just lacking. But we got to see iron Man fight hulk. Great... Also far too much screen time for Romanov and Barton, Lola like this will contijue happening with the new recruits.
Haven't seen ant man - it worth a view? Have to say guardians of the Galaxy aside the marvel films have been on a steady decline after the initial one of each franchise.

Must re watch winter soldier - it's getting a lot of love on here. I'm not a fan of shield or any of their agents in the mcu which probably explains why I don't rate it as highly.
Gotg was a great film imo, sequel will tell I suppose as all first instalments have a good hour of entertaining origin story lines to help them along the way.

But it really could have been so much better. I was expecting more from all the hype.
I hope they don't mess up Civil war.

Do you think the Batman rejig with Christian Bale has influenced what people want from movies.
Ie a real dark serious film as opposed to Disney type happy go lucky family pictures that so many of the films are rolling out as at the moment.
Age of Ultron could have been quite a dark or gritty movie...Ultron could have been one of the big movie bad guys but instead became a damp squib.
Likewise Fantastic four could have been far better, and Man of Steel was appallingly bad at the end..it was just how much of a city we can blow up.

Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe
According to Elizabeth Olsen, she said Civil War will be the best one yet and it will be just as gritty as Winter Solider but more Dark, I think they have hit the nail on the head with the Cap movies, they don't need to be over done with CGI and can make pretty damn good action films under that banner.
For me the Bale Batman films steadily declined as they went, Begins was brilliant, The Dark Knight was good but that was many due to Ledgers Joker and the less said about Rises the better

Got to agree there, the key with these follow ups is making them different so they're not for want of a word "samey". Guardians did this brilliantly and whilst Civil War was just a repeat of the Avengers films it's important to show a little bit of variation in the stand alone films. With Hela *SPOILER* possible destruction of Asgard, The Grandmaster's games it seems like a hell of a lot to fit into one movie. Plus a potential Doctor Strange appearance aswell as the Guardians, as well as Thanos? Seems to be an extremely important movie of the Marvel franchise!

I am assuming they are using Hela as "Lady Death" in Infinity, I am not expecting Thanos in this, maybe a post credit, but happy to be wrong, and I think strange will be at the start and end to facilitate the movement across the 9 realms.
I like the way they are doing the elders as well.

So this Hulk is the original Hulk (from the planet hulk arc in the comics, and the Second Avengers film in MCU) though in the comics he goes on to have a wife and kids (leading up to planet hulk) in the MCU I expect that this will not be the case.
He will recognise Thor once he has chilled out, I suspect he has been the rage monster for a while here and is just letting primal rage kick on.

Really enjoyed.
It was put together well, making sense without being overly complicated to follow. All the hero's get enough screen time, the humour works.
Be interesting to see what other people make of the ending. As it is something you really don't expect. Some will love it, some will hate it.
Like hornblower can't wait for the next one know. Only a year to go.
