Marvel Cinematic Universe
First topic message reminder :
With both the worlds of film and television being such an exciting time for fans of Marvel, I thought it was about time v2 had it’s own thread to discuss all things MCU.
Beit upcoming films, casting speculation, reviews/chat about the latest show episodes or just general comic book chat this is the thread to do it in.
Just to give you all a flavour (if you didn’t already know) of what to expect from the MCU here’s a rundown of the confirmed upcoming films & shows you can expect to be hitting your screens in the near future!
Marvel Studios
MCU Phase 2:
Avengers: Age of Ultron 1st May 2015
Ant-Man 17th July 2015
MCU Phase 3:
Captain America: Civil War 6th May 2016
Doctor Strange 4th November 2016
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 5th May 2017
Spiderman (Marvel Reboot) 28th July 2017
Thor: Ragnarok 3rd November 2017
Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 4th May 2018
Black Panther 6th July 2018
Captain Marvel 2nd November 2018
Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 3rd May 2019
Inhumans 12th July 2019
TV Series
Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Marvel's Agent Carter
Marvel's Daredevil starts 10th April 2015
Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones starts late 2015
Other Marvel Productions (outside of the MCU)
Despite not being part of the same ‘universe’ as the likes Iron man, Cap or Hulk there are still a number of Marvel characters ‘owned’ by other studios that have upcoming releases:
Fox Studios
Fantastic Four (Reboot) 7th August 2015
Deadpool 12th February 2016
X-Men Apocalypse 27th May 2016
Gambit 7th October 2016
Sony Studios
The Sinister Six 11th November 2016
So as you can see between now and 2019 there is a huge amount to get through…
What are you most looking forward to?
How do you see the Avengers storyline for instance progressing through to Infinity Wars?
How does Spiderman fit into the MCU and in what other films might he make an appearance (Civil war for instances)?
Who should play some of the unconfirmed roles such a Carol Danvers- Captain Marvel?
Was Benedict Cumberbatch the best option to play Dr Steve Strange?
Discuss all things Marvel below…

Iron Man, always has been since I was young and the way RDJ plays the character is just amazing!
Interestingly, did anyone see him give the Iron Man limb to a little kid? Here's the video, obviously huge credit to the guy who made it but the guys in the marvel films really seem to go all out to please the fans.

Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk is brilliant but best has to be Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, gonna be difficult to see anyone else take over that role, close 2nd is RDJ as Iron Man as I absolutely hate the character but he's played him brilliantly with just the right amount of arrogance and sarcasm, Brill.

Have to say that AOS is at an interesting point, the inhumans storyline could, and should, be epic. But this seperate one involving Mack and Bobbie I'm not sold on.

Is anyone looking forward to Ant Man? It's gotten completely overshadowed by the new Avengers film which is to be expected, just hope it doesn't effect it's sales at the box office.

We'll probably see lots of trailers, news for it after the Avengers is out. Would be cool if the after credits scene in Avengers was something linked to Ant Man, would certainly draw people in to see it and would be a very clever piece of marketing on Marvels part.

I say we'll get a big trailer at the cinema release of AoU but to see Antman have a cameo or an after credit scene would be perfect

Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe
Watched Guardians of the Galaxy over the weekend for the first time and i have to say it's a cracking installment to the Marvel Universe. Also thought it had the best soundtrack out off all the previous marvel films.
Antman - I think you're correct in almost predicting that the Avengers will outshine it somewhat but may get the credit it deserves when it arrives on Sky/Netflix in the future.
As for favourite characters - Magneto seems to be a personal favourite, especially the way Michael Fassbender has portrayed the younger Magneto. Thor for me in the Avengers, a seemingly nigh on invincible norse god and some good comic timing.

I have a few tbh, I have gotten into Thor since his new comic run God of Thunder started, it was just brilliantly written and that has continued with the female Thor comic, I like Hulk as well and Captain America but my out and out favourite is Deadpool, I collected his original run back in the 90's and again the new ones (he dies next issue ) but the character for me is just fun
Favourite villain, it would be a toss up between Magneto/Red Skull/Dr Doom

Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe
Never read the Deadpool comic, and as my comic knowledge is somewhat intermediate, i do a lot of my storyline reading via wikipedia or marvel wikibase. Non-the-less, I can't wait to watch the deadpool film (if and when it's released). Can definitely see why Deadpool has such a large fanbase.
Anyone else found it hard to explain the actual marvel timeline to people though? Basically take no notice of the first two x-men, forget Wolverine origins ever happened etc...

Hugh Jackman has teased that the next Wolverine film is his last, do you think they should leave the character alone, maybe do the death of Wolverine, or cast someone else?

Think they should do the death of Wolverine, then if need be follow the UU version and have him have son. OR Wolverines next film is his fight against death (done it a few times in the comics) and he can come out looking a bit different.
(Also Deadpool should kill him.)

Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe
The Deadpool film is going to be freaking awesome and I love how much Reynolds is pushing for the R rating! So happy to have my fave marvel character finally getting his own film after the abysmal screw up that was Origins!
As Jackman, I'd hate to see him go he is Wolverine just like how RDJ is Tony Stark. Although I'd love for Deadpool to kill Wolverine! xD
But I think instead of doing the death of Wolverine they should do Old Man Logan before Jackman bows out. (Beat me to it by a couple of seconds Dicey!)

Old Man Logan would look great on the big screen but it would have to be an R too and dunno how they'd cope with all the death.

In the MCU I'm only a fan of Avengers, Captain America 2 and to an extent Thor. The rest have been pretty crappy tbh, luckily Avengers brought them all together and got the best out of them.

Me for one, Ant-man has a huge history in the MU and has been involved in most of the BIG storylines so why shouldn't he get his day in the sun as well, I was hoping for a Hank Pym AM film but I liked Scott Lang in the comics

I don't see Antman is being a viable movie option. Aliens from other planets, yes, that's interesting. Super soldier programmes is too. But there's something about a man morphing into an ant that doesn't do it for me . You'd have be a fan well into Marvel to appreciate it. But then again aren't they the ones always the most disappointed as the movies are not exactly like the comics?

He doesn't morph into an Ant???
You don't need to be a fan well into Marvel too enjoy it either (See Guardians of the Galaxy for proof of that,)
As for being disappointed, depends on how badly they butcher a character (see Deadpool in Wolverine Origins) or how badly they mangle the actual films (FF4 2)

I think what Saint is trying to say, is that because he hasn't the first clue what the story is about he isn't interested so wants to run the idea of the film down.

Deadpool will be a PG-13 then, shame as if it was given an R rating it could be awesome, but this rating allows the character to cross over.

I'm usually good with these sort of things, I mean I seen the trailer and synopsis months ago and said to myself that is a film I'd be avoiding, whilst laughing to myself because I'm a funny guy like that. You can go and enjoy it by all means, but no need to get all touchy if somebody else doesn't want to.

Yeah. Just like Elektra...
On a serious note, a film on the back story of Jean Grey/Dark Phoenix would have been interesting. I think The Last Stand kind of ruined it though.

Whilst he's obviously already had a couple of films and appeared in the 2 Avengers titles I'd like to see a decent Hulk film based around World War Hulk.

No, my point was that you said you didn't find it a viable film option but you've never seen any source material. Ant Man plays a part in some of the big story lines in the Marvel Universe. He may only get one film like The Hulk has (purposely ignore that pile of garbage before the Ed Norton film), but it gives the chance open the universe up more. Especially moving in to the next phase.

Let's just say I think it'll be another Lone Ranger, Waterworld... That's what I meant by it not being a viable option. Or it could be a bit like Hulk. Not exactly sure how that did at the box office, but it sure was a crappy movie - on that note I quite like Mark Ruffalo as Banner/the Hulk. So I agree with whoever suggested giving him his own movie.
Captain America was poor, but it fits in with the Avengers movies... And number 2 was pretty good. Ant-man could go that way too, I'm not sure. But it's not for me - a guy changing to an ant/the size of an ant isn't my idea of a good superhero.

Fair enough Saint, you did come across as having a dig because you didn't understand something. If your interested try and dig out some of the Thunderbolts with Ant-Man in it, pure gold.
Good call on World War Hulk Hero, would love to see the whole arc from Planet Hulk all the way through. There was a fan made trailer I found ages ago that shown how the MU could go and it was fantastic, can't find it now though.

The World War Hulk idea was battered around by Marvel but with Ruffalo having a 4 or 5 movie contract and Banner not being in Planet or WWH it was scrapped, I'd personally love it to happen
If Xmen were ever allowed back in the fold I'd love a Avengers Disassembled story followed by House of M, it is one of my favourite stories
