There's nothing in there that Chelsea are doing now that Ferguson's United didn't do

Re: UEFA Champions & Europa League 2014-15 Season Thread
I'm a tad confused over the media reaction.
First, they act as though Chelsea are the only team in history to ever surround the referee. It is not something I like to see, but it does usually happen with such incidents.
Secondly, the media seem to be thinking that the actions of the Chelsea players influenced the referee in someway. It really didn't, he was reaching for the red straight away.

Re: UEFA Champions & Europa League 2014-15 Season Thread
Walcott should have started.
Like that game against Milan all those years ago, when Arsenal were four down after the first leg (I think), they drew upon pace, pace and pace to unsettle the opposition defence.
Can't see Welbeck or Cazorla having the same effect, but I hope to be wrong!

Monaco are likely to sit deep & counter anyway, given their lead, so the space Theo requires, just would not be there. I know you have a hard on for Theo, so it's a good job Wenger is making the decisions tonight.

Re: UEFA Champions & Europa League 2014-15 Season Thread
Theo always seems to be the answer but the truth is he's only ever the answer in a stretched game, he doesn't have the guile to impact on a compact defence.

What kind of cowpat offside rule is that If a defender heads the ball back to the keeper non deliberately it's still offside

I wondered that, I'd have thought it would have to come off an Arsenal head first and then be a deflection but it appeared to come straight off the Monaco player.

Arsenal 1-0 - Olivier Giroud
It did come off the Monaco player but it's still offside due to it being not deliberate apparently

Yeah I know it's still offside, but surely in that situation an Arsenal player would need to header the ball while Kos was in an offside position, that didn't happen so surely it's not offside.

Every single foul against Arsenal Giroud just runs over to moan even when it's clear as day. Just a waste of time!

HT Monaco 0-1 Arsenal
Welbeck whipped a ball in and deflected up and hit Giroud in the gut and safely lands in keepers hands from 6 yards. Getting closer tho.

It's pathetic with 5 added mins to go the only one who wants the ball is Ozil. It's no you have it no you have it.

It's probably true to be honest, Monaco had the easiest of the groups to progress from which enhanced their stats but they're not a top team by any stretch of the imagination. Chelsea and Arsenal should not be getting knocked out by the French pair.

Ozil was excellent, Arsenal were this, Arsenal were that..........3 weeks too late. Au Revoir Arsenal for another season. Arsenal showed up & showed how average this Monaco side is.

Re: UEFA Champions & Europa League 2014-15 Season Thread
Arsenal too slow for the large part, not a great deal of movement, and struggled to get the required width necessary to stretch and pick apart a Hodgson-esque level of compactness in defence.
Changes made too late, mostly. Referee out of his depth (shouldn't Sanchez have been sent off in the second half, going by the referee's earlier interpretation of the laws of the game).
Darling, super, gorgeous, sweet Theo not given enough time to impact the game, and was then played (mostly) in a central position rather than out wide.
Monaco trapped in a negative mindset and were very dour all game.
Arsenal will regret not going through - this was one for the taking.

All completely irrelevant. Arsenal won the game 2-0.
The part which determined the outcome of this tie, happened three weeks ago. Giroud's awful display & a woeful backline performance are the reason an average French side has progressed.

I'm not a fan of away goals tbh. Feel it rewards team for trying to do a smash and grab away and cling on at home. Not relevant here but a thought
