OK, get your point. However as an Edinburgh season ticket holder it really does make a difference when we get 6 or 7k into the ground for a game rather than the normal 4k and anything we can do to get that for the Munster and Leinster games, which are both massive, would be welcome.

By all means attract Glasgow fans along, but don't give them offers that Edinburgh fans can't use!

Maybe they could open the offer to the Edinburgh fan's staff
I am sure FES could close one wing down for the day to allow a quarter of his staff a chance to watch the game
The extra 1,000 would be welcome

Just popping in to thank those who replied to my questions
Basically at the moment tossing up between an offer from Strathclyde, and one from TU Graz in Austria. Leaning towards Glasgow for a few reasons (foremost being the fact they'll let me be a bit freer in my research). Might PM one or two of you (those of you who live there) closer to the time (employment would be from July first) for some more in-detail tips re where to live if that's OK

Incredible scenes at Malleny park this weekend.
Currie needed to win to gain a playoff spot, and come the last play of the game is was only a draw. The ref gave them a penalty right in front of the posts, but it was by no means a sure bet as it was incredibly windy and every kick that game had been missed.
Anyway the kicker sclaffs it, the wind pushes it against the post and it bounces back out - into the hands of the kicker who spins it out wide to the winger who manages to score the winning try!

Kind of sad that he's off but he's been half the player without Deluca making tries for him. He must have been on pretty decent money and if we can pay for another 4 Hamish Watsons instead I'll be happy.

Congrats to the Glasgow boys for a fantastically entertaining game at the weekend. Rugby is an entertainment business and that was good
Anyone know where I can watch a replay of the Edinburgh game without putting money in Murdochs hands?

pretty chuffed with Edinburgh's win in Llanelli at the weekend. The Scarlets definitely didn't look like a team that hasn't lost at home since 2013.
Also the great unwashed's match against Leinster was one of the best matches I have seen in years.

Well if the giant Fijian does replace Visser as rumoured, our tackling on the left wing is certainly going to improve!

DTH + Maitland > Timbo
We also had to give Lee Jones a job because you correctly identified him as being unsuitable for all jobs other than being the fairy on top of the club Christmas tree.

As much as it pains me to see one of Edinburgh's finest move to the weege, I think that is a good move.
A real experienced head at 9 and will probably help his transition into coaching.
2 year deal too so he obviously thinks he's got plenty left in the tank!
Really is going to be painful seeing him playing for Glasgow against the 1872 champions though...

Slightly surprised at blair going to glasgow. Next season they will now have pyrgos, hart, price, blair and Murray McConnell. Thought he might have returned to edinburgh in a player/mentor role.

Given that they've signed Grayson Hart as well and Pyrgos is still at the club, it doesn't look too good for Ali Price if he's hoping for more game time next season. In fact one of Hart or Pyrgos is probably going to be short of game time as well.

To be fair it's not as if Blair will get a lot of game time. He will be good cover for the world cup and 6N, and can play the Al Kellock role of being a good leader and cool head but not playing too much. Plus he may be able to get involved on the coaching side.
Hardly a spring chicken though - next we'll be hearing that Edinburgh have signed Gav Hastings...

It is a pretty weird signing. Glasgow probably should have all their scrum halfs available during the world cup.
I can only assume that Townsend has brought him in as a player but more a mentor/coaching role as would think hart/pyrgos will be first choice and Ali price has looked pretty good when he has played.
Would have thought glasgow would have snapped up george Horne after his performances for the u20s.

Assuming he is signing as a player coach I think its a very shrewd move. Given Edinburgh's total lack of a backs coach I think it would've loved to see him go there instead

Hmm I loves me a bit of Blair, Mike as opposed to Tony, but can't really see the sense in this. As one of their stand out players he'll be on pretty good money at the Falcons so I can't imagine we're picking up a bargain here. Is this a case of Townsend panicking following the loss of Mata?!
The only thing I can imagine is that Blair's willing to take a wee paycut to get a clear route into coaching. I hope so because we really need to make a few more marquee signings and if the money's being swallowed up by the likes of Hart and Blair, then I can't see that happening.

Great player that Blair is (was?) I'm not sure this is a great signing unless he's being lined up to coach as well, his match analysis on the BBC is very good. Glasgow seem to be signing multiple players in one position rather than others where they are lacking; wing mainly. Given how keen Townsend was to sign Hart, it may well be that Pyrgos isn't seen as being first choice now Niko is leaving.
I would like to see a couple of good SQ wingers signed soon, from NZ, or Rugby League or wherever, the sooner the better.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread VII
Sigh...
What need is this filling? We have 2 young scrum halves who need to learn but they also need game time. So do Pyrgos and Hart. Was Hart aware of this when he moved? We now have 5 players competing for 1 place. If we needed a mentor why did we get rid of Cusiter last summer?
The sooner we announce a decent winger the better. I'm starting to get nervous that we will be needing 20 games out of Rory Hughes next season.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread VII
It's an odd signing, especially given Glasgow's being well stocked at SH and Edinburgh looking short on SHs. The positive is that he brings a wealth of experience which could benefit Pyrgos, Hart, etc and he could bring a different perspective to the coaching side. The negatives are, of course, that Glasgow have so many scrum halves who need game time and now might struggle. Could it be the case that Pyrgos is leaving as well?
I really though it was the signing of the Fijian winger that was going to be announced. But if that signing depends on whether he is selected for Australia, then it may not be announced until after the Super Rugby season.
From an Edinburgh perspective, you would imagine SHC will be at the WC (barring anything untoward happening in the mind of VC), Fowles is only a loan signing until the end of the season and there's no guarantee that Kennedy will recover in time for the start of next season as there could be complications with his rehab or whatever. So that leaves us just Glashan I believe, and it would be unfair to expect him to hit the ground running. I think we probably will sign Fowles but we may even need another scrum half on top of that. I'd be quite happy to see Price come along the M8.

Very odd signing, but it signals to me that Edinburgh feel comfortable with SH-C, Kennedy and Glashan, and I suspect we'll pick up Fowles as well. I'm absolutely fine with those options.
I suspect Glasgow see Blair as a player/coach, probably starting more as a player and moving more towards coaching with the passage of time. Glasgow will have Pyrgos, Hart, Blair, Price and McConnell. Whilst it's a step down from Matawalu and Cusiter, I think Glasgow will get good value from Hart in particular.

We're creating a logjam in the 9 position, no real opportunities for the young players already at the club and where does the likes of George Horne go if he wants pro rugby? I feel that Hart has the potential to become a regular Scotland squad player ahead of Pyrgos so I would hope he'll get plenty of opportunities next season otherwise it's a waste of time him moving to Glasgow.
Much as I rate Blair as a player, we need to be finding pro opportunities for the U20s, otherwise surely we're wasting the excellent progress they've made this season.

I've been offered a position (Research Associate) by the University of Strathclyde. Having only very limited knowledge/experience of Scotland, and none at all of Glasgow, I'd love it if some of you could share some opinions. What's it like as a city to live in? I'm aware this one is particularly vague so I'll try to narrow it down somewhat: is it easy enough to get around (by bike or public transport, I don't drive)? Family friendly (my wife and I are thinking of trying for kids in the not-too-distant future)? Plenty of parks/green stuff? Plenty to do generally? Not too stressful? Any opinions on the university of Strathclyde itself?
Thanks a lot.
A very green city in terms of parks etc. Like any city a huge range of places from rich leafy suburbs to sink estates. Public transport is good and integrated ie bus / tube / train. A fine place to live if not as nice as Edinburgh.

Well, Ulster seem to have got a good deal getting Piutau. Having said that, I reckon quite a few Glasgow players are just as valuable even though they're not such big names e.g. Hogg, Seymour, Bennett, Dunbar, Strauss, Nakarawa, and Gray.
Mike Blair might be handy though with young players coming through, like Hart (to an extent), Price, McConnell. I do feel that Edinburgh could do with someone like Ali Price.

Blair has outlined his reasons for joining Glasgow, and seems it's very much for him to move into coaching. That and he want's to learn from Toonie. Which I guess makes sense.
Maybe once he's learnt all he can from Toonie he'll come home and lead Edinburgh to success.

Or Townsend will move up to the big job when VC buggers off after the WC and Blair will take over at Glasgow. I think Solomons is at Murrayfield for the long haul.

I still can't see VC moving on after the world cup as it would leave his All Black chances hanging by a thread!
The only reason I can se him moving on is if he is not getting to run the team how he wants and his Johnsonness is in the background interfereing (which is highly possible)
But if his Johnsonness is moving on after the world cup, as is rumoured, then VC may elect to stay on to try and prove a point!
