Edinburgh moving in the right direction!
We need more Edinburgh players in the Scotland set up! It's just too painful watching Scotland trying to win games when the team is full of 1872 cup losers! We need winners out there!

No, it must be something different because they'd already announced Blake earlier.Weegie Wizard wrote:I'm getting confused. Is the 12.30 announcement from Warriors going to be Hugh Blake?

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread VII
To be honest although he is fantastic ball player Chris Auld is too small to make it in my opinion, Chris Dean has always been injury prone so although I think he will break into the squad it could be a struggle to maintain a place.RDW_Scotland wrote:Majestic83 wrote:Agree squad needs a few quality signings and a few of the journeymen to be let go. I'd let leonardi, hilterbrand, bezzy Carl, atiga, Strauss and Dominguez all go, possibly McLennan too but haven't really seen him play.
They can certainly all be binned.
Chris Dean and Chris Auld look promising in the centres, but they are about half the size of the massive Fijian winger we're meant to be signing so probably don't meet Solomons' minimum weight limit!
Bradbury is ready in my opinion and Ritchie is not far behind, I will be surprised if Lewis Carmichael doesn't get a pro contract next year. 2 man of the matches and several tries in the U20 6N. Very rangy lock but a fantastic line out operator
Although Manu looks a good player with everyone fit that means that coman will not be in the squad, would rather money was spent elsewhere.

I voted, but it felt like bloc voting akin to the Eurovision song contest eastern European countries voting for their neighbors.

Hogg has played very very well but I think Joseph will get it!
1. He's played well
2. There are more english people than the rest of us so they can vote for their man!

Good move for Blake - he's not gonna get much gametime at Edinburgh.

Agree. Not good enough for Edinburgh, but certainly better than Fusaro and Holmes.

Not too bad a signing, still fairly young. Glasgow short in he lock department for next season especially when gray, Nakawara and possibly Swinson are at World Cup.

Definitely Meh, but a good squad player at least.
I'm not sure he overly fits Glasgow's style though.

Just had a thought - could the Manu signing mean Du Preez is off?
With Coman, Denton, Manu, Bradbury and Ritchie, plus Grant being able to do a shift at 6, we're not short in the back row.

Unlikey. That's how many players you need to have a good squad. Ritchie remember is still only 19 and is only likely to be on the fringes next year, just getting some experience. Bradbury is a year older and looks a lot more ready to step up. With WC and 6N, as someone has already said, Denton is likely to be away a lot next year as well.
I am pretty sure Du Preez was signed on a project, 3 year contract as well. Edinburgh are on the up, why would he want to move on now!

I tend to agree with you, but I'm just trying to think from and SRU perspective - this guy won't have come cheap, and we're not too bad in the back row. Bradbury would be our 5th in line 6/8 probably, 6th if Du Preez is staying.
I think Du Preez is on a 3 year deal, but these can always be broken if the player wants to leave.
Just guessing!

All of this does carry the unmistakeable whiff of a lack of ambition.
Dean Mumm is heading back to the Tahs from Exeter Chiefs. That's the calibre of player we should be looking at if we want a lock. If Ulster can get a Muller, then so can we for farks sake. Brad Thorn came over to the Tigers, for god's sake.
I am so, so worried that we are going to be demonstrably weaker as a squad next year.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread VII
I still suspect that there is a bit more in the pipeline on the signing front particularly for Glasgow, as nearly all the eye catching deals have gone ast so far and that is without the big Fijian winger putting his name n the line yet.
I am actually quite encourage by Manu's signing that we are going after and getting decent players, surely plenty of other clubs would have been interested in him. I don't think RG is out of the question yet either, but that won't be clear until the French relegation dog fight plays out Low is a decent enough player, he has been caped and is versatile. I suspect that Eddie might be playing a lot more sevens next year ad with Big Al hanging on by a thread, we could still do with another second row.
Blake I fancy may end up staying as well, though you suspect one of the others may have to give for that. Where are Fusaro and Holmes in terns of their contacts? Spinks might be well served by being sent back to London Scottish for the season where he would get some gametime.

I think it's a bit early for that GC. We've lost Tom Ryder and signed Keiran Low. While he is no Richie Gray, that is still a net improvement on the squad. We've lost Niko and Hart is coming in. We were never going to find another Niko but Hart will do us a turn next season.
The time for panic is when they announce the replacement winger(s) for DTH and No Maits. If he/they are of a similar calibre to Low then I'll be joining you in despair but Toonie might pull another one out the bag.

Maybe , in the short term, not so bad for Glasgow to be signing fringe players. They are going to lose an awful lot of guys to the WC and not just Scots- Favaro, Nakarawa probably Jerry (the prop!)and the mysterious and as yet unsigned Fijian winger. The gaps need to be filled because the Pro 12 will continue.

He's still rough, but I'd say Low has more potential than Swinson. Definitely a good squad player who could shine away from the perpetual also-rans that are London Irish.
Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread VII
That's one thing to consider. As Manu, according to the press was heading to Glasgow and ended up in the east, maybe the Fijian winger will be coming our way. Most of the talk about the transfers has come from the antipodean press, who probably don't know the difference between Glasgow and Edinburgh anyway.
We probably need a winger more than Edinburgh and we have been a little short changed in the signings so far!

About time - need I remind you we've had to put up with the likes of Andriess Strauss and Ben Atiga when you have had Josh Strauss and Sean 'we don't need a winger we've got Lee Jones' Maitland??

It's about 40% of the squad, but Kenny Logan has said they're going to try and increase it.
Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread VII
Given the funding they get form the RFU, which is based on developing English players, can they really bring more Scots in?
It is a good place for those with dual nationality, but you run the risk of them being snapped up by England. Saying that, England aren't going to be picking players from the Championship

There's no doubt that London Scottish are, as things stand, an undeveloped and untapped asset to Scottish rugby, after all this is the club that has provided more international players than any other over the years. I'm not saying that we pick players from the championship to represent Scotland (even we don't need to do that) but surely there is an opportunity to identify players capable of playing for Edinburgh or Glasgow initially and then going on to the international squad in time.
As an aside, does anyone know anything about their new NZ centre Keiran Moffat, seems to be getting rave reviews and obviously has a Scottish surname?

Another lightweight second row should fit in well at Glasgow and their offloading summer rugby style.
Seriously if they aren't aiming for bigger fish Glasgow will be considerably weaker next season.

I think regardless of who signs for Glasgow, they will probably be weaker and certainly far less attractive to watch with the departure of Niko.

Seriously if they aren't aiming for bigger fish Glasgow will be considerably weaker next season.
I think regardless of who signs for Glasgow, they will probably be weaker and certainly far less attractive to watch with the departure of Niko.
I reckon Niko alone put at least 500 bums on seat..
Yup, massive loss to the club/brand commercially as well as the quality of the rugby.

With all the talk from the English fans (minority of) saying scotland should be kicked form the 6ns, with Glasgow seemingly going to be a weaker team next season, should we consider kicking Glasgow out of the 1872 cup?

Yes he did get people in the door, but hopefully most of them will have enjoyed the experience and will stay. Glasgow are not and never were a one man team. Niko has been one of many good signings by Toonie, he was always going to move on and so must we. The world is not about to end.

But then they'd just have to play with themselves. Not a pleasant thought with their hygene levels.

Might be some sense in that, Glasgow have a couple of decent youngsters, Fargerson and Rae who need to develop along with De Klerk, who seems to be coming on well and the old war horses Cussack and Murray. Probably too many to keep them all happy.

Bit of a risk going to the Falcons though - they're always likely to be duking it out at the bottom of the table.
If he's got real international aspirations he needs to be aiming higher!

Not sure (as an Irish fan) I would agree with that. Swinson every time for me.
